Gday Neil, very interesting tool and bloody handy to have, I’ve watched Kevin’s videos and he did a great job, this is something I should look at making one day, great job mate and thanks for sharing, cheers
Hello Neil, Interesting video... I am a big fan of Harold Hall. This is a nice project and I will watch with interest as have a further variation in mind and have been collecting material. Take care. Paul,,
Thanks Paul, but all I've done is copied Kev so far. The next video is where the major difference will be. In fairness its all Mr. Factotum's fault 😁😁😁
I have been searching high and low trying to find an accurate way to sharpen my end mills myself, I seen this style in a book but forgot the name of the book. I guarantee I’ll be building and trying this fixture. Thank you for putting this up Neil. I’ll be watching all 3 vids. I’m also on a shoestring budget
Hi, The idea came from a book by Harold Hall and Mr Factotum ( Kev) did a few videos on the design. I don't know the exact name of the book but Kev mentions it so it's easy to look up. Cheers Neil.
Nice one Neil Thanks for the shout out, it's appreciated, Okay you may have made yourself more work, but look on the bright side, it's better than vegitating in the comfy armchair watching YT video's.🤣🤣😉😉👍👍 and it gives yet another variation of the great HH!! not HL!! Keep up the good work👍👍 take care Kev
Cheers Ralfy, I subbed to you a while back. I used to build bikes a long time ago, had a few show winners too. Strange thing is, I don't ride, and I have a lathe that I'm crap at using. Bit of a pattern developing here 🤔 Cheers Neil 😁
You can be such a bitch on times. But,,, I am much taller than you so you wouldn't see the bald patch unless you are flying above me. Which,,, is very possible 😂😂
Hi Neil. I can send you a drawing on how to reverse your grinder direction. I had to work it out when I got a single direction motor for my garden shredder. Nice work on the grinding jig. I made the Harold hall grinding rest many years ago. I've never really used it, I keep meaning to, but I've never really settled on a good place for the grinder, so it's never been set up properly. I have a similar drill grinding jig on my to do list.
Good work. Why not just put it on the left hand side, but with either the cutter block on the outside (exactly a mirror image of the way you had it on the other side) or put the stop block on the outside but with the half of the cutter you are not sharpening on the outside too? PS, to reverse a single phase induction motor, just swap the starting coil's polarity with respect to the main coil. PS, not a good idea to reverse grinders as the nuts will come off causing injury. Also, do you have an electronic copy of the drawings? Or does Mr Factotum?
Came here to add the same comment on the dangers of reversing the direction of grinders. Was a different cause, but I did see a very large wheel break up into several pieces, one of the larger chunks went straight up and punched a fist sized hole through the workshop roof, others flew off in all directions and clattered of walls and machine tools, they somehow missed everyone in the area (including me). That was back in 1966 when I was an apprentice. Memories of hose days are becoming a little cloudy, but that one remains crystal clear. Don't misuse grindstones! As a side note: The chunk that went through the roof was never found, and the chap who caused the wheel to shatter lost his job.
Hi Ben. Thought about the nut thing as I passed the comment. That cup is too small in both diameter and width to sharpen end mills. Besides, is a good excuse to spend the wifes money as I dont have any 😁 I've got the drawings, just email me and I'll forward them. Cheers Neil
If the hole in the block was lower down you wouldn’t need an “anti rotation pin” - just cut a flat on the bottom of the plunger with a couple of thou clearance of the base plate.
Might be a good idea to watch the two other uploads. The third and last video with +50k views shows how it works. It's very simple and basic but works. Thanks for coming by and commenting. All the very best to you. Neil 😊😊
Why have you not considered installing the wheel on the other side of the bench grinder ? It would have turned the opposite. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Hi my friend ! There is a slow speed diamond lapping disc on the other side of the bench grinder. It can be seen in earlier videos but not visible in this one. Thanks for coming by and watching. Best regards, Neil
Hi Fred ! I've copied a link to Kev's channel channel below. If you look in his videos, you will find a couple of uploads about the original Harrold Hall design. Thanks for coming by. youtube.com/@MrFactotum Cheers Neil
This a bit similar to what I did, however I am not sure it was my idea or just adapted from Harold Hall's video that I will leave a link to below. If works fine and saves money then it is an Excellent Tool! John, Australia. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mMZt6m52j2M.html
Hi John. Harold's design has gone around the block a few times and each incarnation has a slight improvement. Very clever man Harold ! Read your bio, and totally agree on what your dad said. I'm in the same boat sort of. I can't buy because I have no income so I make with what I have. Best of all, it's fun!! Many thanks for dropping by and commenting. All the best Neil...
@@NellsMechanicalManCave I am subscribed so it was not an accident. I like channels like yours as I can always learn a different way of thinking. Cheers from John.
@@joandar1 Thank you John for being a sub !!! I do tend to be unconventional in my thinking. Out of the box is the usual term that is used. Most people look as something and see it for what it is. I look at it and see what it could become 😊 Cheers Neil
@@NellsMechanicalManCave No such thing as Scrap was part my Fathers MO. For example I have an internal bore diameter grinder that I made out of a 4" angle grinder with a crook gear head that I use on my lathe, the motor was/is fine. I needed to remove the bell mouth in the 3 jaw chuck and the spindle speed on the motor was perfect. End product works great an my chuck now holds stock to 1 Tenth of a thou of center. Just one of many things made from PRE LOVED Material/things. John.
