If you've paid attention to the news recently, then you've undoubtedly heard and read about Walmart closing "unprofitable locations". All of them are in low-income neighborhoods with predominantly Black, Hispanic/Latino and Native populations.
Including the Walmart on San Mateo and Zuni here in Albuquerque. An area we've filmed at many times in the 7+ years of Albuquerque Behaves Badly. March 10,2023 was the store's official closing. Dozens of other businesses have already left the International District due to bad behavior. Including the dollar stores. Needless to say, this has a devastating impact on the community,as the last supermarket has left the area. The majority of residents don't have cars, and will now have to rely on already-unreliable city buses (which will have service dramatically slashed on March 25th due to budget cuts and politics) to shop 5 miles away.
In Part 2 coming up soon, we'll show the vacant shopping center across the street from Walmart, and how bad behavior and politics have turned a once thriving part of Albuquerque into South Central LA, Oakland or Compton.
It won't be nice.
