End Of Days - Arnold vs The Devil Proves the 90s Were Way Better - Best Movie Ever

The Arnold Schwarzenegger movie End Of Days is where we as a planet had the chance to prove ourselves worthy of Arnold, but failed miserably. I'm really disappointed in all of us, except for Van Damme and Nicolas Cage who could never disappoint me, but I'm disappointed in everyone else for being so terrible.

Even when dumb shit is happening you can tell he's having a good time. With Seagal, you can feel the contempt behind every line. It is glorious

I saw it at the theatre and...well, while it's pretty good, it wasn't quite what 90's audiences expected from Arnie. I liked that he tried some drama, and getting the shit kicked out of him by Miriam Margulies remains hilarious. People these days haven't a clue how utterly massive Arnie was for a decade at the top of Hollywood. Every release was a spectacle, an event, his name alone sold tickets. He remains my very favourite actor to this day.

100% this. I love the cinematography in this movie. It has that perfect big-budget, anamorphic film look with great lighting that you rarely see today. My only complaints were the excessive cuts in the fight scenes. I do have to say though, digital _can_ surpass the look of film -- it's just that filmmakers these days usually have no idea on how to achieve that 9 times out of 10. Top Gun Maverick is the movie that finally made me a believer in digital cinema.

Oh, wow, just seeing this review and it cracked me up. I worked on this film for over a year and haven't seen it in forever, but you're not wrong about a lot of your observations. It was a crazy shoot and while I wasn't on set all the time, I'll never forget walking into that amazingly beautiful church in downtown LA and seeing the giant Satan puppet (created by legendary Stan Winston) set up in front of the altar - although they replaced it with some bad digital shots in some places, such as spreading its wings - and it was trippy, to say the least. If you have the DVD there's behind-the-scenes footage of the amazing miniature sets they created for some scenes (such as the subway explosion and the destruction of the church) and I shot a lot of the video used in that BTS section, and it was so much fun watching them shoot all the miniature sequences. Yeah, not Arnold's best film by a long shot, but definitely entertaining in its own way.

I just watched End of Days for my first time and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint was the frantic editing in the fight scenes. This movie proves that even the cheesy popcorn movies of the 90's just hit on a different level than today's movies do. It's cinematography was also god-tier. I think the 90's was the single best era for movies ever.

But it was James Earl Jones that solved the riddle of steel. "That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? Look at the strength in your body, the desire in your heart, I gave you this! Such a waste. Contemplate this on the tree of woe. Crucify him!" But that still works... only fitting that guy who survived being crucified could beat the devil.

Fun fact. Udo Kiersp is in every single movie ever made. He is sometimes in the background in a hoodie, but he is there. Some say that he made a deal with the devil to be the most prolific actor, but the devil tricked him with word play and instead of becoming leading man famous, the word prolific was taken as in the amount of work he puts out and for that he is damned to appear in every movie ever made. When he dies his personal hell will be to go back to the beginning of film and appear in all the movies prior to his birth. I am saddened by his plight but at the same time joyous as I get to see one of our greatest over actors after The Nic in all my favourite movies. I bet the Germans have a word for that.

One thing I remember most about this movie was the soundtrack which I picked up when i was like 16. The tracks were pretty mediocre overall, but was pretty cool at the time some of the musicians put out exclusive songs (likely just their scrapped ones that never made it to albums), think there was also a few exclusive remixes and covers as well. One that I remember that I'm positive was never released outside the EoD Soundtrack was "Bad Influence" from Eminem which was okay at the time, likely something that didn't make the cut to the Marshall Mathers LP. But this movie and soundtrack kinda signaled beginning of the end for exclusive tracks for movies, imo.
