Thank you for sharing! I love to process wool. There's something wonderful to take a raw fleece, skirt, pick, wash and prep for spinning. Merino is one of the hardest to clean I think.. It's harder to get the lanolin off than most sheep breeds. I've even washed it lock by lock haha. My favorite prep is to comb the locks, then put them on the hackle and draw off into a long roving. I prefer woolen spuns fluffy warmth. Granted I just made a nice worsted prep. So I spin from the fold and get that loft back using lovely prepared fibers I can control easily. Thank you so much for putting this out there for us!

Lisa, I think we, of a 'certain age' have spent most of our adult lives in a culture that says our success is judged on how much we produce, whether it's at work, at home, our hobbies, etc. But when we feel the inward pressure to push harder or faster, we lose the valuable experiences we get from the slow and deliberate process. I know that when I slow down, relax, and enjoy the process of working with the fleece and then making the yarn, my mind clears of clutter, my stress dissipates, and I find a wonderful sense of peacefulness.

I’m with you on this being such a slow process. I just keep thinking how can I go faster, create more. I think part of that is loving the resulting yarn and wanting to use it. Another part is I feel like I’m a spinner who try’s to knit. I find so much joy, peace, fulfillment in spinning for spinnings sake.

Hi Lisa, I hope you're OK xx ❣ Its so good to see you. 🥰 Thankyou for sharing this video podcast, the Fleece looks really nice. The purplish fibre looks really pretty. I found that if I have a Spindle that I like, I will buy another from the same seller. I have about 12 Drop Spindles including Turkish Spindles. Thankyou for giving me the inspiration to start Spinning. I haven't has yet made anything with my yarns. I bought 2 Rolags Advent Calendars last Christmas I'm going to make a Cowl from them. I love your socks, the way you knit them doing the cuff on one and then the other is the same way that I've always knit socks. Hopefully one day my Spinning will be good enough to knit Socks again. I like the texture in your Shawl and the way the colours look . Thanks again for sharing your expertise and for giving me the inspiration. Hope you enjoy your retirement. I had to jump on to check out your podcast. Doro frequents the LYS where I knit Tuesdays/Fridays. She was there yesterday (7/8) and mentioned you. She showed off her new Vermont spindles. She actually calls me Agnieska (which is the name of our camp), named after my FIL’s mother who was Polish. I love polish ware and I have a huge selection. Back to spinning, learning and learning. I have a wheel and am constantly checking out you tube channels. She suggested that I binge watch your channel. 😁

Try a small quantity to feel comfortable first. It really isn’t THAT easy to felt your fleece. Some are more ready felters than other, but as long as you don’t agitate in hot water it should be fine. I do find if it’s an extremely hot, sunny, windy day a drying fleece can felt. I had that happen to a Shetland cross I had one year. So sheltered spots are best. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I love the socks you finished. they look amazing. also I have to agree that kitchener stitch can be difficult to get proficient at. I'm still not proficient in it. I also used to knit socks toe-up just because kitchener stitch was daunting to me, while a friend who is an avid sock knitter was surprised at how easily i picked up the Judy's magic cast on, because she found that daunting. its interesting how that happens.

Loved this show. Thank you. I hear you when you talk about the time to do things - that you want to do everything. I've been fortunate to have been working from home for the past two years and have just returned to the office full time; it is a four-hour commute to and from work for me per day and I am finding I'm feeling too tired to do anything crafty at the end of the day. It is frustrating. As a sock knitter, I use the Finchley graft instead of the Kitchener. Check out Kelly at The Tangled Stitch for a great video tutorial. I like it better than the Kitchener - it's easier and has a nicer finish, in my opinion. Thanks again for the great podcast. So informative and interesting to watch!

Very frustrating when someone sees a finished item I or my wife created and ask if we would consider making them one and finish by saying how much would you charge me. First of all it's our love of the hobby we enjoy fabric art as an enjoyment with no thought for profit or making items to sell, creating such items such as rugs hats, gloves, socks, sweaters, and even coat liners for the grand kids it is simply a personal desire to provide for our family. 2nd as you mentioned it is a lengthy process to come up with a finished item which although is the joy of creating it is not a time sensitive process to create what we desire. I'm not sure if others have experienced actually offending people by saying no to the question would you make me one but it makes us almost fearful to share what we have done in hopes that others will appreciate the creativity of our hobby.
