If ima be honest, I'm a fan of the less serious/ funnier Tf2 videos, but this is one of the more serious ones that I really enjoy.

In case you weren’t impressed enough, a movie of this caliber is Really hard to do in source filmmaker. It’s limited to game maps, which meant the outdoor train segments needed some serious trickery to pull off. Also, there’s no support for real-time physics, so every bit of debris at the end had to be hand-animated.

For a long time, I was stumped at the significance of the shot where Medic is holding his king piece after the bomb car was destroyed. But recently, it hit me - what Heavy did was a gambit. As any chess buffs out there likely know, a gambit is a term for a sacrificial play with one piece done to gain an advantage afterward. If the train made it to the barrel warehouse, it would've been "checkmate" against the area around it, just as it's checkmate if the king piece is captured. In short, Heavy pulled a gambit to protect the warehouse, the "king piece".

This SFM actually got an update into the game!! Some items and taunts from the video were available to receive.

hello. I like these videos. I will now comment to boost youtube recommendations. Yes, these are community created, so they can't use the voice actors from valve, unless they contacted them or something.

I always admire these kinds of short films where the creators are able to convey the plot, emotions and moods without any dialogue. Considering how this was made by the community, they didn't have the opportunity to get the original voice actors to join he project, it's pretty impressive to see such a well directed little film with this massive restriction. Most of us agree that in films you'd like to use the practice of "show, don't tell", but that's pretty hard to achieve competently, but they've managed to do it, on top of it infusing it with witty humor. Great stuff

You talking about the ability to tell a story without words reminds me of Samurai Jack. But even more so Genndy Tartakovsky's newer show, Primal. I highly recommend it to everyone who likes well directed (and animated) action scenes.

The most insane thing about it is that all of this was created with such an old, outdated and limited program like SFM. Borderline unbelievable.

Source Filmmaker is built in to the game itself. What you're seeing is basically "gameplay" with sometimes actual players "roleplaying" the scenes, you can then manipulate these things through the filmmaker software to make them look more natural, and manually animate things around the player models. You can apply fx and manipulate various things in the environment.

Oh yeah? Well I'll have you know that I also requested this on the last TF2 video.

About the dove bomb, at the start of the video when they were showing plans, there was a plan under the actual plan that was titled "stealth pigeon bomb" they used pigeons to carry a bomb to explode the red base, and it failed. The pigeons are still around, carrying the bomb

May i recommend the red, the blu and the ugly by the winglet. Its Pixar level animation and has an intriguing yet humorous plot line. Love it when people discover tf2 and id love for you to see what our community has to offer.

These videos are all made using source film maker, which is basically a program that allows you to make animations using the Source assets and models and such (source being valves main game engine, which tf2 uses). The tallent some people have shown with it is truly amazing.

I think what is amazing about the TF2 movies is that the "Meet the Team" videos gave us such strong profiles each character.

Really good video! You picked up on so much and I love that you enjoyed it. I personally like End of the Line a lot because it excellently illustrates TF2's balance between serious business and comedy genius and even though it features very few of the concepts you see in-game it still does well to evoke the personalities of players you can encounter (for example the soldier on both sides being professional and leader-like). If you guys want to see another incredible video game story that works fantastically well with (virtually) zero dialogue, it would be amazing if you reacted to all of the cutscenes in The Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros Brawl. I don't know if you can do it because it is over half an hour long and it's also within the game itself so you miss little bits of context by skipping the gameplay, but it's just such a great plot.

This is one of two styles of TF2 SFM. This style has almost no voicing, and is more like a silent film, preferring not to use the other style. The second style is where the creators will splice pre-existing voice lines together to say what they want (There are more than 4,000 voice lines in the game!), along with the rare voice actor cameo (Like when Nathan Vetterlein, Scout's VA, voiced in "Mind Games" by The Winglet).

keep in mind that not only uber dosent boost physical streangh, the beam also broke a few seconds in. meaning most of that was heavies raw sreangth

Ubercharge only makes someone invincible and it doesn't affect strength, meaning heavy is strong enough to hold the train by himself (though if it weren't for the uber he would have probably died)
