I respect that Jo stands up for herself and rejects Laurie, she doesn't love him so I couldn't be team Jo and Laurie but at the same time Laurie just switching from one sister to the other, especially since Amy was 12 when they first met, has always been so deeply uncomfortable and strange to me I can never be team Laurie and Amy either

I'm due for a reread and a rewatch of Little Women, so this could be off, but my impression from my first read/watch a few years ago is that Jo was in love with Laurie but wasn't able to admit that to herself. And once she realised it, it was too late. I think that, as her sister, Amy should have realised it, and her decision to marry Laurie seems like a sister betrayal, for that reason.

I totally agree about Amy and Laurie. To be honest I will always be on Florence Pugh’s side whatever character she plays 😂

I have not seen the version you watched but I have seen the 1994 adaptation. I will have to watch it tomorrow. This has become one of my favorite stories, I dont have a lot of books I would want to read again but this one I would. I am team Amy and I also love the mothers story. She is a fantastic role model.

Love your vlogs! I put importance on my birthday month on what I read then. I'm team Amy/Laurie as of the 2019 adaptation and I think Jo/Laurie are too much alike as Jo points out. They would fight a lot and I think Amy was a good influence on Laurie and Laurie on her, especially as adults. I'm reading the book for the first time this year.

I will defend Amy and the fact that she and Laurie end up together and are SO well suited to one another until the day I die 🫡

Hi Ciara. I just discovered you and your channel, so this is a bit late, but felt I had to add my 2 cents re Little Women. I am team Amy & Laurie for the same reasons you stated. You made some great points about Amy and Jo and how they are really much alike. Greta Gerwig, who directed the latest film adaptation, has said that she always saw Amy being Jo’s equal. I have seen all four of the big screen adaptations of Little Women, plus the most recent BBC production, and I have to say Greta Gerwig’s is by far my favorite adaptation. I know this may be controversial because she chose to tell the story in non-linear fashion, and the ending was changed so that Jo does not get married at all, but I feel the latter is in line with Alcott’s original intention of keeping Jo unmarried. Anyway, my feelings about Amy didn’t change all that much from watching the different adaptations, except for the 1949 film - the weakest version, imo - in which a way too old Elizabeth Taylor portrayed Amy. Something about an older actress trying to play a young girl rubbed me the wrong way. (In that version, they switched the ages of the Beth and Amy and made Beth the youngest, which was reflected in the actresses that were cast in those parts). I think the most sympathetic Amy was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst as the younger Amy in the 1994 adaptation, (with the older Amy portrayed by another actress), in which the actress was about the same age as the Amy in the novel. This made some of her brattiness more believable and understandable. Anyway I can talk about Little Women adaptations all day😊 BTW, there’s a book that came out in the US years ago called ‘Defending Jacob,’ that reminds me of ‘Saving Noah.’ It’s on my TBR, so I haven’t read it yet, but the story is about an autistic boy who is accused of stabbing another boy. His father is a well respected attorney and stands by his son, but as the evidence mounts, he faces pressure from the community and cracks appear in his marriage. This book got rave reviews and may be worth checking out if you’re still in the mood for such stories. The author’s name is William Landay.
