My soulmate passed away from hep c, chirrosis, and liver cancer. We kept hope until the end. On a thurs in 2019 we found out about the cancer. He played the drums. When he realized he wouldn't be able to play them anymore. He said life wasn't worth living. He passed Mon morn. We were in bed. He had his back to me. We had known it was close. I felt his arm it was cold. I got up and walked around to see his face. He was gone. His eyes were partially open. He hadn't been gone long. I miss him desperately. We laughed everyday. He was funniest person I ever met. He was my sunshine. He was hard on his body for many yrs but he was sober for last year and half of life. Life hasn't been the same. I wish we could do a redo. My heart goes out to the people suffering and to their caregivers. It's hard to watch someone die.

First let me say that I am so sorry for your loss. We were the same age. I was hard on my body, not drinking or drugs or anything. I would get out on a motorcycle and do something really stupid. I would pop right up and chuckle. But toward the end of my 30s I noticed that my body would hurt whenever I got cold, of the air pressure was high it was not so bad, at least for me. If it was super low then I would have to lie around and ache. As the years went by, the aches got worse. Then I was diagnosed with a degenerative bone disease and that was it. Now I have had surgeries all over my body to stabilize this, or pin that. Now I can barely walk and I am confined to either a bed or a wheelchair. Cirrhosis is not something I would want to deal with. My grandmother had it and never took a drink in her life. I am so glad you were able to spend time with him.

I just saw it today also. Apparently he has passed. I am an RN for 43 years. One of the scariest things I ever saw was a ruptured "esophageal varicosity." The blood shot for 10 feet across the room. A varicosity is like a bubble. We have very large arteries that exit from the top of the heart under pressure that are beneath esophageal tissue. Ingesting corrosive liquids...including ethanol, acids like vinegar...and even beverages that often have a ph below 3!!! Coca-Cola has a ph of about 2.7 and is caustic. Apparently alcohol is worse on the esophageal tissue than low ph drinks...which is surprising to me. Apple Cider Vinegar comes with a warning to dilute before drinking to prevent this very thing. I dont know if we will ever hear exactly how the rest of his life went before passing..I havent discovered it if it's there.

12 years sober. I'm pretty sure your liver is ok now. That doesn't mean to start again. The lliver is the only organ that will regenerate itself over time. I'm sure you know this, but don't make the same mistake twice.
@Rusty_Nickle
@Rusty_Nickle 8 месяцев назад
unfortunately it won't. The problem lies with the fact that in order for the liver to regenerate it needs to regenerate from healthy tissue. If you damage that healthy tissue then it doesn't have something good to regenerate from .

I'm saddened to hear that. Watching videos like these opens your eyes to how precious the liver is. You can get cirrhosis from NAFLD that can turn into fibrosis and so on. Some people are ignorant and there is a stigma attached to alcoholics. At least people like this gentleman reached out for help.

My Dad died from Cirrhosis of the Liver. His symptoms came from out of the blue and were quite extreme. Swollen legs and feet (fluid), loss of a lot of energy, loss of appetite, mental issues from ammonia and Ascites. He was diagnosed on July 6, 2023 and died September 6, 2023. His last two months he was mostly in the hospital. 12 days of Hospice care at home before death. The transition was a quick one. Alcohol and cigarettes played a huge role due to low oxygen levels, diminished lungs, low red blood cell count, low hemoglobin, anemia etc etc. I miss him so much!

Sorry for your loss. My 30 year old son died of the same thing your Father did, back in May of this year. He was home for the last 5 weeks of his life. It was hard watching him waste away, but he wanted to do as much as possible before he passed. We did do alot of things with him, and we suffered with him too. This caught me totally by surprise. I have never known anyone his age have this happen. I still feel like he got cheated. His birthday recently came and went, and now I am preparing to get through Christmas without him. It amazed me how little "modern medicine" can do for this. It felt so hopeless, and helpless. I am sorry again for your loss, I hope you have a fantastic holiday season. Peace.

RESPECT. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm Timber, and I'm an alcoholic with 3 years into recovery. I drank for many years, and the thing that woke me up from that was winding up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning and a near-death experience. Thank my Higher Power for being given the tools I needed to get sober. Google tells me that the liver has remarkable healing abilities, even after years of drinking. Obviously, that isn't true in all cases. It is in mine, as my doctor says my liver is healthy now. In my own opinion, alcohol is poison. LISTEN to Woody and the rest of us, PLEASE. Getting sober isn't easy. It sucks. But once you do it, you never have to do it again, just as long as you don't pick up that drink.

nurse here -- blood coming out the mouth, rear = varices "exploding," sign of late-stage liver disease. Varices = "fake" vasculature created by the body as a feedback response to constricted blood flow to a damaged, cirrhotic liver. They're both a blessing and a curse, but ultimately a curse. I'm glad you're still with us Mr. Boyd. I'm dealing with a brother who is going through this now and I myself have progressive NASH.

I had a friend in HS whose house was the party house. We’d all go there to drink since his parents were the “cool” ones who wanted to give us a safe place to drink. My friend Chris and his two older brothers were all heavy drinkers, but Chris started younger than them, maybe at 15, and by the time he was 21 he was dead. The liver itself is pretty damn resilient, especially at his age. What killed him ultimately was ascites, which is fluid in the abdominal cavity (which is to say in the stomach area, but NOT in his stomach/small intestine/colon/bladder). We all joked about it saying he had a beer gut but looking back it was ascites due to liver failure. Unfortunately for him that made for an ideal environment for bacteria, which lead to septicemia then sepsis and then organ failure as a result of septic shock. Keep that in mind if you’re like my friend Chris who thought he was young and invincible.
@billj4525
@billj4525 7 месяцев назад
That's sad man, 21. The liver is very different for different people though. I have seen people with hep c who drank heavily their whole lives and their liver was actually fine still, very little damage. I have seen other people who actually blew there liver out in about a year from very heavy drinking. That's what I mean by saying people can vary a lot when it comes to the liver and how it responds. I'm surprised he had ascites so severe it killed him at that age. He must have had some pretty bad liver damage if he had that. He must have been in extreme pain too, as ascites is usually extremely painful. There are so many people who are extremely bloated though and they never have a problem. Even people who are fat and sort of bloated never seem to. I'm not even sure how you would know it's real ascites or very serious ascites. The kind you need drained I mean. From what I understand ascites is very very painful and uncomfortable though, the person should have some idea based on pain and discomfort. Do you know how much he drank between being 15 and 21? I knew someone who's liver was failing in his 20s from extreme drinking. He had end stage liver disease, but it wasn't at it's worst, and doctors were able to take care of it without a transplant. Very sad whenever someone dies young. I'm sorry you lost your friend Chris.

@@billj4525 i'll level with you, i extrapolated a lot of the info just from the facts as i know them. it was a real hush hush thing with his family and it was suggested well in advanced that inquiring too much into the cause of his death would be met with severe push back. everything i said about him being a heavy drinker and him having a severely bloated stomach, while being relatively thin everywhere else, and that he died very suddenly of cirrhosis, are the facts as i know them. as you've commented on, people can really beat up their livers and still live long lives regardless. however i've personally never come across, or heard of anyone, beating up their livers in in such a short amount of time, and dying as a result. it's possible he had some congenital issue with his liver, or perhaps suffered from additional comorbidities, however by all other metrics he gave the impression of being an otherwise healthy individual. the intent behind my post wasn't to skew the facts, but to let people know it's possible to die from liver disease, or some effect as a result of livery damage, even at a young age.

Thank you, so much, for telling your story. My son is 37, and has been diagnosed with cirrhosis just two days ago. He’s still drinking heavily, and is struggling to come to terms with what this all means. Your down-to-earth telling of your story, may just be what he needs to get some clarity. I’m being respectful of his independence as an adult, but as a mother, it’s hard not to dive in and make everything better. I can’t do that. It’s got to come from him and I can only hope that he makes the right choices. Good luck with the transplant. I’ll be thinking of you.🤘

my dad passed in feb 2022 from complications of cirrhosis brought on by a fatty liver. he was vastly overweight for a lot of years sadly and his bloodwork was always good until it wasn't. by then the liver was slowly starting to fail and it just got worse and worse. the sad thing at the time is i think he was in denial cause he had issues he blamed on other things that really all stemmed from the liver starting to fail. i only knew how severe it got when his legs started to give out and he had no strength to stand. watching my dad deteriorate is something that still keeps me up at night. i miss him tremendously. i feel for the maker of this video and any others suffering with this. the liver is responsible for so much and without it your body is just a mass of useless cells. please please if you are in the early stages do anything you can to help yourself. you do not want to go thru his end when he was bleeding out. i miss you dad.

I'm 70yo and have witnessed too many of my friends suffer from this horrible addiction. There needs to be more education pressed onto young people on the seriousness of alcohol over consumption. I lost count years ago how many times I watched someone drink themselves into a stupor. Instead of airing ads of people having a merry old time sitting around with a cocktail, lets see ones of a young person with their face in a toilet vomiting violently. Lets see a person in ICU on the last stage of their young lives because they thought drinking was cool. Let's see a body on the hood of their car because they were so drunk that they could not make a rational decision not to drive. On and on these stories are written daily and yet nothing is effectively done to reduce the carnage. THINGS NEED TO CHANGE
@toddmarshall2726
@toddmarshall2726 8 месяцев назад
More education? There is no money to be made in educating people about the dangers of alcohol. In fact, the exact opposite is true. The special interest groups from big wineries, distilleries, and breweries pump tens of millions into political donations to make sure nothing like that EVER happens. Do you think the tobacco companies were bad? lol These big alcohol companies do so much more damage than tobacco ever did both in terms of death and misery as well as in resources spent. These companies expect a return on their investment. Alcohol takes a long time to kill someone. Sometimes it takes decades. How much does the alcoholic spend on booze over the course of a year, let alone ten years, 20 years, or 30 years? How much does an average alcoholic drink in a day? Probably a couple of liters of hard liquor (at a minimum). How much does that cost? Maybe $30/day but probably more. Let's do the math $30 x's 365 = $10,950/year. How many alcoholics are in the U.S.? We can't know for sure but we need a number to work with. So, let's take the CDC's estimate of 8.1 million. What is 8,100,000 x's $10,950? That's right - 88.65 BILLION dollars. We have probably severely underestimated the cost though. We haven't even touched on the medical costs. This guy alone is seeing 3 top surgeons who are running all sorts of tests on him. He has (had) a transplant TEAM assigned to him. That is multimillions of dollars worth of healthcare for one man in one or two short years and now he's dead. Where did the money go? It certainly didn't go to save him did it? Again, he's dead. People have to want to avoid death more than they want to numb the pain in their lives or the satiate their addiction. I'm fairly certain that this fellow is now dead or so sick that he can't post. He hasn't posted on RU-vid for over a year. His GoFundMe is no longer accepting donations. Why do you think that is?
