I love it! Thank you so much for putting such a great list! Having not touched this game in over a year, my deckbuilding skills are clearly... subpar for the moment (and I wasn't excellent with building commander decks before anyway). This helps so much! I'll be sure to share my final list, and I'm definitely staying a patron!
Always a pleasure to help someone get back into the game, Jeromiah! Thanks so much for supporting the channel and be sure to let us know how your final deck shapes up!
Great video, I just wanted to chime in to mention that threaten effects are not really applicable to Obeka's ability. "Until end of turn" effects do not care when your turn ends, but any "at the beginning of the next end step" triggers and the like are exilable with Obeka's ability. It's a subtle distinction, but definitely should influence what cards you favor with Obeka. I personally run things like Twinflame, Mirror March, Puppeteer Clique and Slave of Bolas for that reason.
I think I just heard some of the best reasoning for playing 2 MV ramp: so that a two-lander hand isn’t a non-starter. I feel like I intrinsically understood this, but to have it framed like this really helped it click in a new way.
As much as Obeka is a bit of a mess to understand, I also made a deck for her (for a friend)! She has a lot of great potential for abusing "at the beginning of your/the next end step" effects, but the added potential of ending opponents' turns is genius!
Just stumbled upon this channel and i love it. My playgroup tends to play at a 6-9 power level with no two card infinite combos, but everything else optimized. Mana Crypts, duals, fetches etc.. I love that you show high power versions of decks that still try to disclude super free wins. It makes commander interesting IMO.
Thanks! The goal on the channel is to present tuned decks without being oppressive. Sure I'll talk about infinite combos and POTENTIAL includes, but I want to ensure we're fostering a FUN game for everyone
@@CommanderMechanic Is there any other kind of resource you know about where people are posting/discussing tuned decks that super oppressive or trying to win before turn 8ish?
Okay so Obeka's effect works with cards like Araumi(at the beginning of the next end step) but not with cards that say "until end of the turn". "Untill end of the turn" effects happen in the clean up step they will always happen, even if she ends the closing step some how another is created and resolves those effects.
"beginning of the end step" effects still work at the beginning of the next player's end step. UNLESS you end the turn while these trigger goon the stack.
If everyone stopped playing consecrated sphinx the EDH community would be better off. Everyone plays it if they can for a reason, it's WAY overpowered and should be banned like prophet of kruphix. *Yes prophet is worse, but only because of the type of effect, not the value*
Hate to troll, but: It’s “Oh-Beck-Ah”. “Oh-Beak-Ah” would be speeled😂 ‘Obeeka’- two Es together: peel. One E: pell, like Pell Grants. Grammar lesson done. As to this deck, it’s almost all politics and little leverage for opponents to take Obeka up on ending their turn. While it’s purposefully underpowered (which is fine) you need to have gross things done to your opponents on THEIR upkeep to incentivize them to take you up on a sidebar game offer to stop it if you activate Obeka ‘for’ them. They don’t lose half their life or lands or whatever (it’s gotta be bad for them) but they trade the rest of the turn for it. If you can make it random (dice roll to target) then you’re further insulating yourself while still being political in a gangsterish way and getting a benefit out of it. If they don’t take you up on the sidebar, you’ve got other opponents getting schwacked on their upkeep to work with. What I’m talking here is political stax. Havoc Festival, Smokestacks, Price of Knowledge, and multiple upkeep sac/discard triggers (Sheoldred & friends) all while you can still play at instant speed with counters & Leyline/Orrery.
