I’ve been struggling and failing to make a brew that takes advantage of the cloning and other unique Obeka interactions, great deck!

I was recently debating which Kiki-Jiki variant I wanted to make a new deck around, since there's a gang of them now; after hearing you out, Obeka has a case for her now, too.

If you want a pure clone deck, Obeka may not be the best choice because you don't have that effect in the command zone. But if you like the blend of different clone effects (battlefield and graveyard), as well as running cards you won't find anywhere else because of how unique Obeka's effect is, then this might be the one for you 🙂

As far as I was aware “at the end of turn” triggers will still trigger at the end of the next viable turn even if you end your own turn. You need effects like “at the beginning of the next end step”, those triggers use the stack and can be responded too. At the end of turn or until the end of turn effects are checked as state based actions, hence why threaten effects are often misused in this deck. But then again, I may be wrong, I’m no expert
@casual_commander

No, you are correct. Is there somewhere in the video where I get this wrong???

Ideas unbound I think was the card, I think the discard is unavoidable even with Obeka
@casual_commander
@casual_commander Год назад
Its oracle text has been changed to "at the beginning of the next endstep". There has only been a single printing of the card, thats why I had to use that one 🙂

@@IamJoshEast the rule is "at," not "until." All the cards that say "at" generally work. What you have to be careful of with any "at the end step" triggers is where they come from! Ones like feldon, or final fortune, or kiki-jikki, etc. all trigger once because they check the tokens/targets, same with something like myriad, bc the creature being copied checks once to remove the clones. But if say an effect gives the token "sacrifice at end of next combat/turn," that trigger will repeat

Finished my Obeka deck but did not get a chance to play it yet. I would also add bounce lands to recommendation due to the etb effect able to cancle with Obeka.
@casual_commander
@casual_commander Год назад
I wanted to include more, but they have tension with most of our other effects which have endstep triggers.

Nice to see someone cover Obeka but from my point of view your vid breaks down to "play the expensive staples for Kiki-jiki ,draw, treasure and reanimation in Grixis" Spam Dockside isn't exactly a bad tip but it ain't news either xD I was hoping to see some suggestions for cheap interaction spells that has synergy with Obeka like turning Voyager Staff into a permanent exile effect. I'm running an Encore+Myriad mix for mine. Extra spicy if you get a Blade of Selves onto an Encored token or use Araumi on a Myriad creature :p Edit: "cheap interaction" as in low mana value cards

But Kiki doesn't get to copy and keep cards like Archon of Cruelty, Ancient Silver Dragon etc lol. I do get where you are coming from, but I feel like there are some distinct differences from a "goodstuff Grixis reanimator" pile. To start with, we plan on cloning the reanimated targets, which few other decks actually do. Secondly, the creatures come with haste, which affects what creatures are included in the bomb category. And lastly, some of our reanimation cards are right on theme with Obeka e.g Ayara, Dawn of the Dead. Sprinkle that with some cheap extra turn spells and i feel like this is different enough that you would want to play it, especially if reanimator in general is something you don't normally play. But Obeka can be built in a number of ways, so i understand if this variant isn't that appealing to you. I am a little disappointed though the idea of cloning these sweet targets for cheap doesn't excite you lol.

Is there a way to combine this commander with Suspend based secondary theme to have a real Time Wizard feel/play style?

There is next to no way of protecting obeka and everything pretty much relies on her to really be worth it any player who knows what to expect of obeka I'd gonna completely ruin your day playing this list
@casual_commander
@casual_commander Год назад
I guess it depends on your meta, but against all the decks I have played against, I wouldn't call Obeka "kill-on-site" where such protection is needed for the deck. The deck can also function without her, the only cards that you really stop playing are the extra turn ones. If Obeka isn't out, im still going to loot to fill my yard and use my reanimation effects, because cards like reanimate, animate dead etc. dont require Obeka. I'm still going to use sneak attack to hit with an ancient silver or copper dragon to generate an incredible amount of card/mana advantage, even if they get sacked at the end step, because often one hit is enough. The "dies to removal" argument can be valid at times, but only where your opponents can't let your commander survive a turn-cycle. I personally don't think that is the case here, but keep in mind even if it is, while we don't run protection, our reanimation effects help get Obeka back out without having to pay commander tax, so its never really the case of "removed 2-3 times, basically uncastable now" for our deck.

@Casual Commander I see what your saying and your right about this package being able to just keep doing stuff with the general creature base.what I ment when I said you need her earlier was in relation to your clones effects which fade away at end step like rionya, kiki,jaxis etc to which you are correct in saying the deck doesn't fall apart without her so to that I admit I was wrong.However on the note of kill on site commander I do still think she deserves that thought before the turn rotation of if you are able to remove her.the things most obeka decks can do with her on and off the field is pretty night and day.thank you for replying and I look forward to seeing the gameplay video on this deck
@casual_commander
@casual_commander Год назад
@@illusivespecter8124 the one thing that might make her less desirable to kill right away is that we run no tutors, fast mana or one-card win-cons of any kind. So even if our opponents fear the extra turn spells, it rarely means we are going to kill the table on that turn. The gameplay videos won't be too far away 🙂

I would have kept watching. But a $3,000+ deck? You have to be absolutely invested in the concept and your life must be centered around it to even be considered an option
@casual_commander
@casual_commander 3 месяца назад
That's why I recommend proxying decks. That way you can enjoy them at a minimal cost and only buy the real cards once you know you love the deck. Also, a good chunk of that price is from the OG duals, so just replace them to cut the cost :)
