@@janusdk Hey Janus! That's a very good question that I will try to explain as good as I can! Let's say you cut the music to an end-point that you like, and then make another cut on the last beat, so that when you put the reverb effect on, it'll just appear on that last beat instead of the whole clip. Now, when you don't compound the last part and you want to enlengthen the last part so that the reverb can fade out nicely, the music of that track will just keep going with a reverb effect. If you compound that however and you don't go into the compound clip timeline, the compound clip has an end that cannot be enlengthened, because the end of the compound clip is set to the end of the music clip that you used to create the compound clip. If you now go into the compound clip timeline, duplicate the music track in there, deactivate the second track and en lengthen it, you can go back out to your normal timeline and enlenghten the compound clip (because it now has "material" to be enlengthened). This way, if you enlenghten the compound clip, the music will still stop and the end-point that you wanted instead of just continuing the track and the reverb can use that extra length top fade out nicely whilst there is no music playing anymore! If you need more clarification, please send me an email to: sebastian@sf-visuals.com I can do a short screen recording so you have visual representation of what I just tried to explain and then it might be a little more clear! :)

So pleased to see this. I spent years in the studio editing tracks to fit perfectly for commercials. I must have done thousands of them, and this was a technique we often used when we didn't have a proper ending we could steal and nail on. Of course, it wasn't digital back then. I was working on 1/4" tape mostly or multitrack, but we used similar ideas. We would copy a bit over, cut off the end and front with a razorblade so we effectively had one beat, then send it to the echo plates in the basement and record the result. This was then either synced up with the track on a different track or just edited on the end. Often, to save time, I would simply use the desk to turn up the send to the reverb plate, then mute the track, and turn the send back off again. Very manual, and you had to have very good timing because it was three very quick moves just milliseconds apart. But after doing this every week for years, we mostly did it first time. It saved bouncing which helped quality - on tape, every time you bounce, you lose quality. At the studios we prided ourselves on our music editing. Not just accurately editing a track to fit an exact 28.5 seconds (for a 30 seconds TV commercial), but doing it very quickly at the front of the session so the backing track was ready for the voice over. It is much easier now, so no one has an excuse for what you rightly called the "lazy fade." A good music edit can transform your audio.
@SebastianFriedrichVisuals

I am so happy to read this and getting such an amazing feedback! Yeah, no-one really has an excuse to just do a lazy fade when it is literally that easy to create a proper ending, especially as you already said, audio is pretty much half the viewing experience and neglecting this fact will never get you desired results! :)

Hey brother! Hahaha! It was a little "offensive" calling it lazy because the fade is even used in some Hollywood productions but I personally like the reverb ending a little better because it just sounds a little more interesting and not as a hard ending :D Of course it is totally fine to end a song with a reverb, but mixing those to make an edit more interesting is a good way! :) Glad you liked it man! Hey - I just realized that I may have gave you a wrong answer - what do you mean with the 'second timeline'? The demonstration at the beginning or did you mean why I opened the compound clip in its own timeline?
@PassionForLifeGallery
@PassionForLifeGallery 2 года назад
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals at 2:43 you open the second clip in its own timeline and then you duplicated it and extended the duplicate. not sure why you did all that.
@SebastianFriedrichVisuals
@SebastianFriedrichVisuals 2 года назад
@@PassionForLifeGallery Oh for sure! Then I gave you the wrong answer! Because, that's a little more complex - because the reverb effect needs some room to "breathe" and unfold the reverb. If I would have left the clip normal and extended it to give the effect some breathing room, the track would have just continued with the regular beat and music instead of going slowly to an end. In order to solve this problem, I created it as a compound clip to have the freedom to go into this compoiund clip's timeline, duplicate the last part of the music with the effect on, then mute it and then extend the muted part. So when doing it this way, I have the freedom to lengthen the compound clip so that the reverb effect has some room to unfold without the regular beat continuing! I know, this is a little confusing! Hope you get the point! :)

You have missed the big step to right click on that compound clip, select open in timeline, duplicate the audio layer to the second audio track, mute the second audio track and extend it for around 5 seconds. @shiori2525
@shiori2525 9 месяцев назад
not sure if you solve the problem. Here is my assumption. You might need to cut somewhere which is not the end part of the music because it doesn't have data to extend. Let's say, you can try cutting in the middle of the music clip and see if it works.

@ShijoCT650 Год назад
Nice information. But why made a new timeline and went back to timeline 1
@SebastianFriedrichVisuals
@SebastianFriedrichVisuals Год назад
It’s actually pretty self - explanatory: Example 1: I just drag the effect on, without compounding and any other stuff - if I make the track longer, the music will just continue to play, which isn’t what we want if we want to fade out a track. Example 2: if we compound it with the effect on, we cannot make the clip any longer because Resolve thinks the track is ended (due to compounding) Example 3: the way I did it, to tell Resolve the track is not over, so we can make it longer, without the music continuing to play!:) Hope this answers the question!:)
