[ENDING] I Am In SHOCK! | Batman Arkham City First Playthrough Part 9

So you have to understand. Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamil (joker) started their roles together in the animated series (you must watch) so at the time this came out they had been playing the roles for 20 years. This was a fitting death for the joker. And no one else could have done it justice other than mark.

I always thought it was interesting (and kinda funny) that Batman just leaves Talia’s body in the theater but carries joker out dramatically 😂.

There’s a few hints that joker was actually clayface (or vice versa!). One of them is that Clayface always says “Batman” instead of using joker’s “Bats” or “Batsy” nickname

The best part of Arkham City's story is the way that the game dropped so many hints and clues about the twist ending with The Joker and Clayface, that when you look back you see how truly genius it was.

The image of Batman carrying Joker at the end mirrors the very first shot of the game when we saw a painting of Cain carrying Abel (after he killed his brother).

_Do you wanna know something funny? Even after everything you’ve done…I would’ve saved you_ . The best line ever said by Kevin Conroy. It’s very symbolic of the end of Conroy and Mark Hamill’s partnership. RIP Kevin, forever the definitive Batman. ❤

Its so wild were already at the end of Arkham City and were moving on to Arkham Origins next it felt like this series just started 🤯😂

The final twist and ending was shocking, isn't it? There was another hint about the fake Joker in the beginning, when Harley said: "Mr. J, its a miracle, you look perfect. Oh no, its not you is it?" And when you fought the fake Joker back in the steel mill, if you used your detective version, you can actually see he has no bone structure, prove he is Clayface.

To clear up confusion, a lot of modern triple A games calculate the game's progression not just with the main story, but also the side missions, collectibles, unlocking items and locations, etc. (And with this series, I believe that may include combat and predator challenges, but I may be incorrect with that) So you initially seeing 43 percent means that the that you managed to complete that much of what the game is offering to the player.

When this game came out, Hamill said that this was his last time as The Joker. Though saying that he'd come back for an adaptation of "The Killing Joke" if Kevin Conroy was Batman in it, which all eventually happened. He also returned in smaller instances like Justice League Action and 1 or 2 of the DC Lego games, but this really is, in a way, the death of Hamill's Joker. 'EDIT: And now that she's played Arkham Knight, I'll add that Hamill did of course come back for that game in a surprising but welcome return.' And with the passing of Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill has stated that'll never voice Joker again.

12:05 You saw Clayface in the Asylum, he's in the cell near where you find Warden Sharp. He changes from Sharp to Cash to Gordon when you look away.

It's quite a chore, but getting all the Riddler stuff is well worth it. The mission where you finally confront Riddler is really good (and it's referenced in Knight). Plus...you need to lookout for a mysterious figure hanging out on rooftops (or on top of the Ferris wheel). He's a character that also pops up in Knight.

3:50 Talia sees the real Joker off-camera and reacts with shock. Notice how she starts to look at the Joker and off-camera multiple times with a look of surprise?

"How long does it take to freeze this guy?" There's literally a gauge at the top right of the screen showing his health/shield go down lol. It was clear he's one of the bosses that you have to "soften up" first before trying to hit him.

So glad you're doing the side missions. Arkham City actually fleshed out a lot of the side missions unlike Asylum, so it's definitely worth finishing them if you can. Even if you don't finish the side missions, I would recommend looking up the endings to them because they usually are referenced in the later games. There is definitely a lot more this game still has to offer, including a very well hidden easter egg somewhere on the map... Great playthrough, appreciate you.

I love this ending, it’s so bitter sweet. Also I just wanted to tell you how genuinely impressive it is that you beat the whole game without putting any upgrade points into the combat armor and you didn’t even have any major difficulties with the combat. And now that you completed the Deadshot mission I can tell you now that you have actually seen Deadshot before. Remember at the start of the game when you were walking towards that elevator as Bruce Wayne? There was this one dude telling him „you’re on my list Wayne“ and doing finger guns. That was Deadshot and as we now know, Bruce was really on his list

Congratulations on finishing the main story, Miranda! This is easily a 10/10 game (one of the few). And yes, there is DLC! (Featuring Harley Quinn!) Btw, those Harley intercoms you found in the Steel Mill are destructible. Just fire the electrical charge at the oversized Harley head and it’ll explode! P.S. Be sure to check the top of the giant Ferris wheel.

Just a tip. A knockout smash will instantly alert everyone nearby that you're taking someone out.

There is a lot more to do, even aside from Riddler - there is the Identity Thief, Zsasz, Watcher in the Wings, and then there is the DLC of course, it’s accessible through the main menu

Congrats on your first play through of Arkham City! That ending had me shook for days the first time I played it too hahahaha, also I can’t wait to see you play The Harley Quinn’s Revenge DLC

Just a heads up Miranda, when you play Origins or Knight, make sure to disable the inverted controls for the Remote Controlled Batarang; it makes it so much easier to control it (you could also do it in City). Gliding controls can also be tweaked so they become like Asylum's.

This came quick. But god damn this has been a fun as hell ride to go with you on. Your whole obsession with the faces, the comics, everything else. Cannot wait for the next game. You're so much fun. Keep up the good work Miranda.

Congrats on beating the game essentially with your starting health, having only given yourself ballistic armor instead of combat armor. The percentage the save file tells you in all these games is total completion of all side activities (Riddler included), not story progression. This game was advertised as being the final performance of Mark Hamill as the Joker, having played the role since the early 90's with the animated series and various tie in media. His dying here was a major surprise for us all. If you go back and look at the very first image you see in the game with that very first Catwoman segment. The painting the game opens up with is of Cain and Abel, the first murder according to the Bible, and shows the exact same pose that Batman carries Joker out in. On the whole Batman visiting Solomon Grundy thing, Batman actually occasionally visits some of the villains who aren't as entirely evil. Joker, yeah, he's a lost cause. But Harley on her own, or Poison Ivy, or Mr. Freeze, Batman occasionally is on friendly terms with. If you wanted to see how Barbara Gordon goes from Batgirl to Oracle, the Joker incident is the main feature of the comic "The Killing Joke". There are a few additional side missions. 440 total Riddler stuff (trophies, riddles, challenges, collectables, etc), the Zsasz side mission, the Identity Thief mission, etc not to mention the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC which takes place a few weeks after the end of this one. As far as the next games, technically speaking Arkham Origins is the next game that came out. A prequel, set about 10 years ago and is only 2 years into Batman's career. Arkham Knight is the 4th game but takes place after City as a proper sequel. Arkham Knight is so big that Rocksteady needed more time to develop it so a different company took up making Arkham Origins as a temporary measure to buy them time. Origins IS canon to the Arkham series, it's just not a Rocksteady-produced game. If you want more in the Arkham universe, there is also a tie-in animated movie that is canon to this version of Batman called Suicide Squad: Assault on Arkham. It takes place a couple years prior to Arkham Asylum and focuses on the Suicide Squad (including Harley) as the main characters rather than Batman himself. Technically speaking the Suicide Squad game you got a sneak peek at is also in the Arkham universe but years after the events of Arkham Knight.

Great finale! There have been several Clayfaces across the comics and shows, but the common thread is being a shapeshifting mudman whose past as an actor makes them prone to theatricality and sometimes getting too into their roles. Looking forward to seeing you try Arkham Origins.

You inspired me to get the Arkham games and play along with you. Knight is definitely different from the other two we've been playing. There's actually more buttons somehow lol, but the overall fell is incredible.

this is what i was talking about. once you hit protocol 10, you're stuck in that mission loop until the game ends. before then, you can do side missions, hunt for riddler trophies, and level up at leisure.

Already at the end? This was over way too fast! If you cry when a villain dies at the end of a game you know you created something special. I was amazed and yelling at the TV when you grabbed the pink Catwoman trophy in the museum and literally looked at the green one, but then dropped down through the door again lol. You have to grab both, Batman can't get up there.

31:47 in the DC Animated Universe of Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League and Batman Beyond Joker was killed off twice, in the first Tim Burton Batman film he falls to his death from a helicopter and in a couple of other continuities he dies too.

It was sad to see Talia die because if you read the comics, you see that she was one of the few women that he was very much in love with, and she him. It was just her devotion to her father and his cause that caused the rift between them. I always pictured them eventually finding a way to make it work and running off together.

Another great play through. Hope you decide to record the other side missions. You definitely read year two, dark victory, the knightfall series, the killing joke and hush. Also you should check Batman the animated series with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, I think you would absolutely love it. Can't wait to see more Batman Arkham videos.

Basil Karlo, the original and most well known version of Clayface originally started out as an actor who after learning that his most classic film was to be remade with a different actor in the lead role he tried to kill the film's cast, including the character named Julie Madison who in the 1940's was Bruce Wayne's fiance (it was different times), using the mask and outfit of the film's villain called Clayface but ended up being caught by Batman and Robin. He had an interesting backstory but ultimately was kind of forgettable and boring. After him there was Matt Hagen who was the first Clayface that actually looked like the version we all know now but in terms of motivation he was just a generic thug who got his powers from underwater radiation trying to steal something. Of course later there was Preston Payne (Clayface III) and Sondra Fuller (Clayface IV or Lady Clay) and believe me they have really complicated backstories. Preston Payne was the third incarnation of Clayface. Preston was unfortunately born with a rare disorder that does actually exist known hyperpituitarism. Preston was a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs and after years of being belittled inmate fund for his appearance he has dedicated his life to finding a cure to his condition. He obtains a sample of the then-living Matthew Hagen's blood, and isolates an enzyme which he introduces into his own bloodstream. Although he is briefly able to shape his own appearance, this effect is short-lived: while on a date, his flesh begins to melt, and when he touches his horrified girlfriend, she completely melts. Unlike all the other Clayfaces, Payne builds an exoskeleton anti-melting suit to prevent himself from touching anyone, but he learns that he needs to spread his melting contagion onto others to survive (he feels pain if he doesn't melt anyone). During this time his mental health starts to slip, and he falls in love with a wax mannequin he names "Helena", thinking she is the only woman immune to his touch. Sondra Fuller (Clayface IV or Lady Clay) is the only Clayface that not a lot of information is known about. After spending her entire life ashamed of her own appearance she was found and recruited by the villainelous organization Strike Force Kobra who transformed her into a shape-dhifter by her employer Kobra's technologies, a process she agreed to become a subject for because she hated her own face. In the famous story The Mud Pack, Basil Karlo teamed up with the other Clayfaces to defeat Batman but tricked them and stole their abilities for himself because he was unsatisfied that he was the only Clayface without powers and became the one true Clayface. Then of course there was the version of Clayface from Batman the Animated Series which was an amalgamation of Basil Karlo and Matt Hagen and eventually DC comics after one of their many infamous reboots changed Clayface (Basil Karlo) so that he was more like the Clayface from the Animated Series. Honestly I don't know why they chose Matt Hagen as the name for Clayface in the Animated Series although it probably had to do with the fact that Matt Hagen was the first Clayface that actually looked like the version we all know today however in terms of backstory and personality he is more like Basil Karlo. So if you ever come across any other version of Clayface it most likely is Basil Karlo. Also to end on a more positive note, Preston Payne and Sondra Fuller actually ended up falling in love and accepting each other for who they were and eventually had a son together they named Cassius "Clay" Payne (yes seriously his middle name is Clay) who was born with powers and became the fifth Clayface. There's like 10 different versions of Clayface but out of all of them Basil Karlo is the most well-known one and the one most people think of when they think of Clayface.

About what you said from your last video of the Iceberg lounge as stage area well guest what It Is and already unlock, you just need to check on the riddler's revenge challenge map and swipe to find the extra content maps

So glad you're enjoying the Arkham series, hope you play Harley's Revenge. One thing to note is that Origins is a prequel when Batman is still starting out, roughly during his second year as Batman and about 6 years before the events of Arkham Asylum. Also if you ever want to play a lighthearted and wholesome Batman game the Lego Batman games are really good, and also the Injustice games have a captivating story

Also if you are interested in learning more about Solomon Grundy, I would recommend checking out the Justice League Unlimited TV show from the early 2000s. There is an episode called "The Terror Beyond" which focuses on Grundy and his origin. Also I recommend the animated TV show Justice League and Justice League Unlimited since it's some of the best superhero television I've seen.

Absolutely love seeing your dive into Batman/DC. It's been an absolute joy. Just curious but any chance that we may see some Batman/DC movie reactions on your other channel? Animated OR live-action? All DC is great. You keep mentioning "Year One," there's an animated movie based on that as well as the Long Halloween. Maybe a comparison reaction between the comics and the movie? Something I think you'll get a lot out of is watching other people do the combat and predator challenges. You'll see people do things you didn't even realize you could do and I just think that will enhance your experience and make you appreciate these games more. It'll also help before starting Arkham Origins and then Arkham Knight. If that sounds like something you'd be up for there's a RU-vid playlist from RU-vidr Batman Arkham Videos titled "Batman: Arkham City Challenges as Batman". You can probably just watch the ones with the most views and be fine. I know you play these games your way as a blind first time playthrough and have warned people in past videos that they should not be surprised to see you miss x thing or not realize you can do y thing. I'm not suggesting this to make you the perfect player. I just think it'll make playing the games more fun. Just to be clear.

27:39 is probably one of the greatest shots in videogame history. Hell this ending was so shocking, like I’m the same, I couldn’t believe they actually had the balls to kill The Joker. One thing that strikes me about this scene is that Batman admitting he would’ve saved him from death, like this man has killed so many innocent people, crippled Barbra and killed Jason and yet he still wouldn’t let him die. He even CARRIES The Joker’s body out of Arkham City and I love that the thugs calm down and let him pass as a sign of respect. Batman was severely affected by his death, it proves that without each other Batman and The Joker are lost. It’s what makes their rivalry the best and greatest in any form of fiction.

Congrats on finishing Arkham City. Your reaction is pretty genuine to what everyone felt when they got to this point in the game. And that's even more true of hardcore Batman fans. Killing the Joker off in such a definitive and uncompromising ending was unthinkable and mind-bending. Years of speculation on how they could undo it ensued. A lot of people felt that trying to undo it would ruin the impact of this ending. There's DLC for this game. Harley Quinn's Revenge should be your next video!! It continues this story. Then you can jump into Arkham Origins and it's DLC before jumping into the grand finale of Arkham Knight.

The stealth section in the Museum as Catwoman is probably one of the toughest. Two-Face starts calling in reinforcements when you attack him, so I found it easier to get him down to one or or two thugs, then focus all my attention on Harvey before the new guys show up.

Congrats on finishing Batman: Arkham City 👍 You better prepare yourself for Batman: Arkham Knight though because it’s going to be more epic and challenging than the previous games But I believe you can do it. Nothing’s impossible for the Batman🦇

You will love Arkham knight I guarantee it. Hands down the best Batman game ever, but the Batmobile is a pain in the butt to get the hang of. Though technically you should’ve started with Origins

I really hope you consider Arkham Origins before Arkham Knight. Origins is a super fun game and is about batman in year one, focusing on how he meets most of his villains. A small fraction of arkham fans dont talk about it because it was made by Warner Brothers Montreal rather than Rocksteady, and isnt sold with the other games in the trilogy format. But rocksteady gave WBM all of their assets, their game engine, etc. to produce a spin off sequel. Similar to how Bethesa gave Obsidian all their work to produce Fallout New Vegas. I just think its one youd personally be upset you skipped out on, loving this character and the series so much.

Solomon Grundy is sometimes absolutely heartbreaking. I always remember seeing the character appear in the Justice League cartoon issue The Terror Beyond which explains his backstory and really humanises the character.

Fun detail for you- If you have detective mode on any of the times you were dealing with 'healthy joker' he doesn't have a skeleton like everyone else. Also, it says something about your mindset that in several videos now you have referred to the thugs as your victims.

You can get the normal riddler trophies with catwoman too

12:27 The Terror was a horror film Basil Karlo was in and Clayface was the name of its villain. His name also comes from Boris Karloff, most famous as Frankenstein's monster and Basil Rathbone.

You can freeze the informants to keep them outta your way while fighting other enemies

For the Identity Theft side mission the other bodies don't show up on the map so I can give you the locations, the next body is between the Courthouse and Church in an alley, and you'll find the last body around the ACE Chemicals building. Plus they're all on the ground level and can sort of be seen in detective mode.

Oooo! The ending! This is gonna be AWE SOME. =) Looking forward to it ! Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) was played in Batman '66 by the lovely Yvonne Craig. I think there may be an opportunity to play Batgirl before she becomes Oracle in Batman Arkham Origins, but that is only a hazy guess. I wish I had a hundred likes to like your playthroughs with.

If you love amusement parks then I should recommend you Six Flags and it's an awesome place since you love DC. There's a Gotham City area where they have a Batman ride, a Joker ride, a Harley Quinn ride, a Riddler ride, and a Catwoman ride. There's also a Metropolis area (Superman's city) There's a Superman ride along with a Superman drop, and a Hall of Justice (Justice League headquarters). And they're a few DC gift shops in both Gotham City and Metropolis. I love your videos they're a good vibe binge.
