This entire phase/imagination of the Joker portrays his origin. From a failed comedian, he became a criminal called Red Hood and then at Ace Chemicals, he fell into a vat of chemicals, his skin turned pale, his lips red, his hair green and finally, he became insane. And these recurring quotes about "bad days" are a reference to his most famous sentence "All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.". I recommend reading The Killing Joke, all of this is taken from this story.

Yeah, idk what people meant by this not being part of the same universe as the arkham trilogy, yes it's not made by rocksteady but it's literally a direct prequel, like you said. Before Knight released, you COULD argue Origins wasnt connected to the rest. Knight makes it VERY clear Origins is acknowledged as part of the canon, no argument to be had.

Roger Craig Smith does NOT get enough credit for his voice acting here. Few people can fill Conroy's shoes like that (ironically, Troy Baker also does a good job when he plays Bats)

For some context with Jokers story cutscene, the red dome on his head is from one of the dozens of plausible origin stories he has. It was a criminal identity he had called “The Red Hood” before he became Joker, and it’s featured in The Killing Joke (the same comic that Barbara Gordon was originally shot in). The heavily abridged version is that The Red Hood was doin a big ol crime in a chemical factory, when batman showed up. They fought, and Red Hood fell into a vat of chemicals which Batman failed to save him from. The chems bleached his skin and dyed his hair. Thus Joker was born. THAT BEING SAID, we don’t actually know if The Red Hood is Jokers canon origin in the Arkham games or not. He makes up backstories for himself all the time, tells different people different things, etc. The Red Hood story is also in the Arkham City audio logs, where Hugo Strange says it’s most likely fabricated.

iirc The Killing Joke origin story for the Joker is the one that DC considers official. Though I know these games are separate from mainline DC, and thus that may not apply here. Still, they put a lot of emphasis on The Red Hood origin here and in Arkham City, so I'm gonna say it might be the same case for the Arkham games.

@@MaigenMaylightit most likely is the real origin story for the character in this universe. But considering we have only ever heard it from the Jokers mouth, I’m assuming we have never gotten the TRUE story of how those events unfolded. iirc Strange made emphasis that all of Jokers fabricated stories featured Batman. Considering they meet in Arkham Origins for the first time and we see in real time how Joker becomes fascinated by him, i wouldn’t be surprised if Batman had absolutely nothing to do with his origin in these games. Ik Origins was a different studio but the story mostly lines up with the stuff we knew about Joker previously (except for Harley, cuz the Alsume audio log said she was an intern and we heard how they met).

For the record, I have absolutely no doubt that Killing Joke/Red Hood is Jokers true canon origin story, despite whatever bs stories he might tell his psychiatrists. I’m just saying, in terms of the Arkham Verse, even tho it’s most likely his canon origin, Joker is still an unreliable narrator, and the depictions we hear of the story might not be 100% accurate.

Can I ask why Rocksteady have a say on what is canon and what isn't, when this is a DC Comics IP? Or where those games developed alongside DC too, like Jedi : Fallen Order/Survivor was overlooked in its story by the Lucas Story Group.

@@shugaroony Because the Arkham games are Rocksteady's Batman continuity, not inherently tied into any other Batman media. What happens in the Arkham franchise does not necessarily reflect all other Batman incarnations, and vice versa. What Rocksteady decides is canon or not in their continuity is the Arkhamverse's official canon, both for better _and_ for worse

Just to clear up any confusion, I've been practically replaying this again alongside of you. The takedown upgrade that you unlocked gives you two takedowns instead of one. Look under your combo number for little star icons, as long as there is at least one star there, you have a takedown in the bank. However, in regards to the "disarm and destroy" takedown, you don't unlock that specific takedown until you finish the side missions for the villain Bird. After that, you can use it to destroy bats, knives, shiels, guns, and stun batons. It does NOT knock out the enemy, just destroys the item so no other enemies can pick them up and reuse them.

After you finish Arkham Knight, the Batman Telltale games are well worth playing. The Gotham Knights game is good too but not as good as the Arkham games and it's not connected to these games.

This game is cannon to the Arkhamverse the creators confirmed it The reason it wasn’t created by rocksteady was because at the time origins was getting made Rocksteady had already dedicated time to create Arkham knight so they handed it to another studio with the condition they followed the same blueprint the previous games followed

Love your jaw just dropping for that whole Harley / Joker section. I was in exactly the same headspace when i played. Such amazing writing playing off the duality of Joker/Batman against Harley starting her journey towards obsession. No spoilers but that storyline continues later and it’s so good. One tip that you’ll absolutely love... When hanging people up from gargoyles you can baterang the rope to drop them on the people who come to investigate (so funny and adds to your new love of stealth)

Now you see why this is my favorite game! I have mentioned in comments on your previous videos a bunch of things that contribute to my love of this game, but the moment that truly cemented it as my favorite Arkham game (and one of my favorite games in general) is the scene where Batman saves the Joker and then Joker tells Harley about it.

Only Joker think that, Batman don't think that. A criminal kills his parents and that's the reason Bruce become to Batman. Batman hate all the violence and assasins, criminals, and Joker represents all that.

This sequence is an amazing and maybe one of the best parts of the whole series. I can never understand how this alone doesn't kill the arguments some make about this game not being very good. Like we know it's got the mechanics and gameplay loop. But the story is as good as any other. I love that Troy Baker's Joker here really gets across in this game just how scary unhinged Joker is as well as charismatic and engrossing, you can't help but love him when you should hate him and it's so clear how someone like Harley could be so empathetic/sympathetic for him.

Batman: "I've dealt with psychopaths before....but this...." You see in every version, back when Bruce first started as Batman, he thought that criminals are not hard to engage once he knew what they're after, all until Joker shows up and brings the madness into a whole new level, which surpirsed both Gotham and Batman. Just like what Alfred said in that particular movie: "With respect Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man that you don't fully understand either.....Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some man just want to watch the world burn."

32:26 That quote's actually from The Man Who Laughs which was Batman and Joker's first meeting in Post Crisis comics. The Man Who Laughs is also an old black and white horror film and a character in it inspired Joker's design.

There is a Arkham City album they came out with that they didn't play any of during the game for whatever reason.....but anyways there is a song called "Deranged" by Coheed and Cambria that you'd love. It should've of been the end credits for the game it's that good. Also the Disarm move only works on people with weapons (guns, knives, bats, shields, etc) It's good to use in big crowds because it destroys the weapon so other bad guys can't pick it up and use it.

Once again, I am thoroughly enjoying your play through, Miranda. =) The idea of Joker and Batman being ying and yang type characters who have a special relationship with one another is a sign of great writing. One represents order, the other, chaos. One is stoic and bound by his oath, the other, insane and extroverted. I have often felt that the Joker does indeed have a super power, that being, he is incredibly lucky. The same could be said of Batman. I hope that someday you can take a look at my own expression of creativity, A Golconda Story, and say after reading the first act, "I have to have more!" like you did at the end of this episode. Yeah you probably should have read The Killing Joke before playing this part in order to understand the references during the Joker's flashbacks sequence, it would've told about Joker being the first Red Hood and a failing comedian. The Killing Joke is widely regarded as Joker's definitive origin story.

In the end the game was about the beginning of a beautiful love story. The game is indeed part of the Arkhamverse. It wasn't meant to be but Rocksteady used several of his resources and events in Arkham Knight.

Regarding that Destroy Weapon Combo Move you were trying to use, that threw me off for a while when I played too. Just to save you a headache, you haven't actually unlocked that move yet. You unlock it automatically at the end of one of the side missions and you'll specifically see a notification that you unlocked it when you do.

Miranda: 32:34 The game: 12:37, 15:13, 25:44, 28:44, 1:13:29 I probably wouldn't have hated this game so much on release if it were just more polished and had more detail in certain areas. But it was so bad on release that I quit like 20% of the way through. And let me tell you, for me? If I've got enough of a handle on a game, even if it's just a rental? It has to be *REALLY* bad and/or boring for me to get tired of its $#!+ enough to stop playing altogether. The only other games I can think of were Far Cry 2, Uncharted 1, and Hollow Knight. (Hollow Knight was an *especially* bad case because I actually *bought* that trash.)

Arkham Origins is my one of favorite Jokers. He isn't motivated to play with Batman, he really intends to kill him and cause chaos because he wants to. Joker we knew is dangrous yes, but this one feels MORE dangerous, MORE unpredictable. Plus, I like his design more than previous Arkham one and I really enjoy Troy Baker's performance.

Loved this video. Loved your reaction to everything with the Joker. Unfortunately for this game it released on the 360 and PS 3, and I don't think those consoles were powerful enough to run the game. So with the consoles not being powerful enough, along with all the bugs and glitches it had, and constant crashes. A lot of people passed on what is really a great piece of storytelling.

Yeah I have to be honest, I remember playing three Arkham games, but for some reason never played this one. No idea why. I have to say I found that whole bit with the Joker and Batman beginning their relationship, thrilling; and adding Harley Quinn in the mix too, to see how she became besotted with The Joker, when all along he was talking about Batman, was superbly done. Great stuff. I'm seeing all this for the first time alongside your Miranda, and I'm having a blast!

You’ve read The Killing Joke, right? The bit with the stand-up and being the Red Hood is straight out of the graphic novel. It’s the Joker origin story and is one of the greatest Batman graphic novels written-you will get all the references from the games-so definitely get a copy from a bookstore and then you’ll be “obsessed, obsessed, obsessed” but for god’s sake don’t watch the animated version; horrible!

You don't have the disarm and destroy move yet, you get it soon on a upcoming side mission. Also when your sock gloves are activated you can just punch through guys with shields, martial artists and guys wit shock batons.

Don't know if you realized during his monolog to Harley, but joker was reliving when batman threw him into the acid when he was the red hood. Gosh, People hate on Origins but it along with Asylum have the best stories! I didn't care for the story in City and Knight isn't much better. That said, Batman saving the Joker had me screaming at my screen and is one of the main reasons I don't actually like that character. By not letting that man fall to his death, he's indirectly responsible for all the pain and anguish he's going to cause. 50x as much as Batman will ever prevent. I prefer Punisher's style. I'm guessing u haven't read /heard of batman the killing joke & under the red hood. Before joker became well,the JOKER , he was forcibly to wear that red tube helmet & the cloak ,called him as the red hood. After that ,Jason todd became the new red hood with a new getup.

Rocksteady didn't develop this game, but it's considered canon to the Arkham universe. Saying it's not is like saying Fallout: New Vegas isn't a real fallout game because Bethesda didn't make it.

If you want more joker origin story, you should read "the killing joke". Its actually a pretty quick read. But whatever you do, stay as far away from the movie adaptation as you possibly can.

Batman is always so stupid and saves the Joker. But for me, Arkham Origins is the best Game in the Arkham Series in terms of Story and Setting and also the Soundtrack. 😁

I knew you were gonna love that Joker/Bane scene at the Royal hotel and his interrogation with Dr. Quinzell. "And a partridge in a pear treeeee!" Lol Those scenes are burned in my memory too, my first name on this youtube channel was "Escape into Madness". You need to read The Killing Joke to understand his Red Hood costume as well as the Joker's first ever origin story in the comics. Joker's manipulation of Harley's affections was amazingly portrayed in this story, it's almost like a prequel to Mad Love. 😁

It's too late to tell you but when you have activated shock gloves, you don't need to stun any enemy, be it armoured or guy with the shield. Just punch them directly ‼️

To contradict asylum, harley quinn first appeared in an episode of batman the animated series season one called jokers favor. It's worth a look if your a fan.

When you activate the shock gloves, you can ignore all combat restrictions. That means you can hit enemies who are shielded, who have armor etc. You don't need to stun them first.

The only thing really missing from this game is the art direction is probably the weakest of the Arkham games. But everything else they did a really good job with.

Also I wanna thank @TheMirandalorian. Because your videos so far inspired me to play this game ,and showing & explaining to me the good parts that make this game stand out. I used to skip this after playing this for 1st time few years ago ,because I was waiting for some studio to make a remaster ,remake which not just for a graphical enhance ,also fixes the bugs & glitches. So your videos made me think why don't still have fun with what I got ,while waiting for something that's not in my control which might happen or not. People say origins isn't part of the Arkham verse because it creates unnecessary plot holes that contradict the other Arkham game especially asylum which is a fair assumption to make
