At Afiaman Presby School, we spoke to over 400 students about the importance of good menstrual hygiene practices and distributed reusable sanitary pads to fifty (50) needy girls. But our impact went beyond just providing products - it was about sparking conversations and fostering understanding.
First, we addressed the boys, emphasizing the crucial role they play in supporting their female peers during their periods. We stressed the importance of respect and empathy, urging them not to tease or laugh at girls during this natural process.
Next, we turned to the girls, encouraging them to embrace their periods with confidence and dignity. We introduced them to reusable pads, providing comprehensive education on their use and benefits. The selected girls received a pack each, ensuring they can manage their periods comfortably and sustainably. But our efforts didn't stop there. Prior to the event, with the help of the teachers and Girl Child team at Afiaman Presby, we identified girls facing dire circumstances - some resorting to tissue for menstruation, others struggling to afford pads. These girls were prioritized for support, ensuring they have the resources they need to menstruate with dignity.
As our slogan declares - Liberate, Educate, Empower - today, we made a tangible and sustainable impact in the lives of these young girls. Through collaboration with Impact Week and Heritage Christian University College, we're committed to the principles of the circular economy and advancing Sustainable Development Goals 1, 3, 4, 5, and 10.
