Have you tested this with a Ronin power ascender?

Is it possible to use this method to splice a line into the midpoint of another? A viable means of creating a Y shape line that allows a single line on a winch to pull two ends equally?

How much load it will hold? For example in 10 mm rope?

Does the whipping of the two ends need to include the inner core of the Rope at those ends as well as the outer covers?

(From Marlow’s tech manager) I’d apply a palm and needle whip at the middle to lock things in place if I were to whip the splice, however this would leave a bit of a lump and stiff section. So, if it’s being used on, for instance, a furler drum I might be inclined to simply stitch along the length of the splice instead as it’d achieve the same locking of the splice but without the stiff section or the diameter change.

This splice does NOT engage the core of the rope. It merely engages the covers.

Double braid’s strength is 50% core and 50% cover, so by overlapping the covers, it generates rough the same strength or at least material. I’d be interested in seeing a break test on this though

@@dominicyoxtheimer6115 It seems that where the core has been cut, after burying the covers, there will be a small section at either side of the splice where there is only one cover and no core, before the second cover inside the first cover is reached. So there will be two places where the final strength is only 50% of the original strength.

is there a way to splice 13core static rope or is it the same
@MarlowRopes
@MarlowRopes 6 лет назад
Hi Dayle This splice is specifically to create an endless loop with no diameter increase as sometimes used in yachting control lines. It’s a compromise in terms of strength in order to keep the diameter consistent.The static rope on the other hand is normally used for safety critical applications and working at height so we would advise against splicing this rope unless already very experienced. We’ve not encountered a requirement for static to be spliced in a loop so we’ve not tested any splice method to do this and therefore can’t recommend any method.
