What are endocytosis and exocytosis? Endocytosis refers to the process in which cells engulf extracellular material, and there are different forms of endocytosis like phagocytosis, pinocytosis and receptor-mediated endocytosis. Exocytosis refers to the process in which cells expel material into the extracellular space.

Quite the nostalgia trip! Most of the natural sciences students start their biology course roughly somewhere around the topics of cell structure and physiology with the highlight on various types of cellular transport. Watching video like this gives one time to wonder on the journey he took and the level he actually achieved. Thanks osmosis for wonderful work as usual!

Thank you for the informative video sir. So does endocytosis and exocytosis also happen to materials delivered into the cell via extracellular vesicles(like exosomes and liposomes) or nanoparticles(like lipids)? Like when a cell uptake some nanoparticles, it could isolate the DNA, miRNA, or just proteins inside first, then break them down or throw them out again? If I read it right, when an exosome successfully enter the cell and delivered the materials inside, the cell could still isolate those materials or put them into vesicles first to check and decide if it wants to have those substance or not, instead of just letting them freely flowing and directly goes into the organelles or even the core?

does this 2 process affect the volume or size of plasma membrane?
@mohamedsadaoui8732
@mohamedsadaoui8732 Год назад
Endocytosis decreases the plasma membrane area while the reverse process, exocytosis adds it. A cell needs to balance the two to maintain homeostasis. Imagine removing the membrane bit by bit using endocytosis, the cell will end up shrinking. This means the cell membrane will tense up slowly as the rate of endocytosis is increased. To relieve this tension, the cell needs to lower its endocytosis or increase its exocytosis.
