The level of skills in a bo7 of this man is insane. He never play roach ravagers because it is not viable at the highest level in ZvT. Dark always go with it and he ends up losing against top level Terran, as he just did in this gsl. So coming to this final against the 4th race with a new approach of such a inferior style, and tripling it down like roach was op show how terrifying a prepared rogue can be. In terms of strategy and preparation. This was THE absolute master class. Don't get fooled be the anti-meta midgame tech, it was a true form of starcraft genius. So impressed. Can't wait for next season
@@user-zm4th9xr3b exactly, It's so comical hearing people complain about Toss being OP when they've historically been the worst race at pretty much every level, but especially so at the pro level.
@@Teferi66 not true. Below top level they've been the strongest. And the reason at the very top level they aren't winning is because they don't have players on the level of maru or serral for example. Toss players haven't evolved with the game because they haven't needed to for a long time. And now they are stuck not being the very best players. Imbalanced faction is no substitute for skill.
@@TheMHB199 I actually strongly disagree, protoss is the best pub stomp race and the worst competitive race because they have the easiest units to control, with the lowest micro potential of any race, terrans and zergs have the most intricate and micro intensive units and or economic systems which are super hard to use, but also allows for the highest possible skill caps, where protoss has a far lower skill cap which, quite simply can’t allow for their most skilled players to fully express their skill in game.
"The game of Whack-A-Mole needed a few more whacks for the Terran to win" - Tasteless, 2021. Top tier analysis. SC2 forums in shambles claiming you can't basetrade a terran
@@yuuki3 Yeaits it's stupid they can survive 3 mine hits with 1 hp because they actually heal that quick. Unless all 3 hits are instantaneous u need four mine connections to clear a muta flock.
@@RoseGold-Playa Tbh, mines killing mutas in anything less than that would be op, Mutas are tier 2 and require immense micro, having a tier 1 unit that requires 2 clicks to properly set up, kill them, would be utterly unfair.
Without having to worry about public access, they focused on many other aspects of the tournament and more on the social media interactions. Which, like you said, really improved a bunch of the production.
Given Rogue's intimate familiarity with how Maru plays Terran, I think this game was just Rogue getting a perfect opponent for him to fight. He knows in and out how Maru plays Terran after years of being his teammate and sparring partner and was EXTREMELY well prepared for it. This was as much Rogue being a beast of a Zerg as it was him knowing how best to fight Maru, and exploiting his weaknesses. Granted, I think Maru did perform sub-par this final. Maybe he was overthinking things, or maybe he's just gotten too comfortable in his tried and true style and just couldn't adapt on the fly as well as other Terrans might have. Either way Rogue performed excellently, and I hope this final acts as a motivator for Maru going forward.
yea, and why doesn't it work the other way around? Maru knows how Rogue play as well, but that doesn't change much because of the few options you've left against someone who is throwing shit at you without even bothering to be cost-effective, and then you still lose
LOL. Wrong. Rogue was sparring with TY and Cure. All they had to do was look at how he was playing in the last matches and come with a reasonable game plan that would work the most often.
@@mongolian242 Maru could not practice with Dark, because he is Rogue teammate, was a bummer. I am quite sure Dark would have prepared Maru against that Roach Ravager pressure style. Instead, I heard Maru was practicing against some EU Zerg (maybe Serral/Elazer/Reynor) and those guys almost never use Roach Ravager in their games, its LingBane all the way for them.
Easy to implement recommendation to improve client/viewer experience: add som blank content after the videos so that we cannot know in advance what is going to happen by mid show
This was a live stream….it’s not a match recording so it ends when the show is over. It was never intended for people to catch up if you missed it because you would have known the results already
I love the segments/interviews GSL makes for the players. This type of content allows the players to share their personality with the international community. Much love for Gyuri and AfreecaTV but tbh the short winner's interviews after games don't set up for much more the usual "I'm thankful the win. I'll try harder. Ty to my fans." Would love for them to maybe invest their efforts into more substancial content. I'm fluent in korean so I have no need for translation but I think it'd be great for the SC community as a whole to be able to relate to each other a bit more. GGWP! Thank you AfreecaTV and GSL
I disagree with the winner interviews being pointless. It's nice to wind down after a deciding match and recap some of the highlights from the matches, which Gyuri does a great job of. She is really one of the best interviewers imo, super energetic and very detailed with her questions, not just generic scripted questions. It'd be pretty boring if we just jumped from one matchup to the next without some sort of social interlude.
@@orcapuff True. That's a fair point. It's not like we need to choose one or the other at the end of the day. Absolutely no shade towards Gyuri at all just to be clear. Just think there's definitely room for improvement in terms of connecting with a more global audience. Again, just nitpicking tiny details as a long time gsl viewer.
Humiliation. I don't think THIS shaped up to be the best GSL final ever. Despite casters doing their best first three games were so one-sided it was painful to watch.
Must say, Maru adapted too slowly, if he hadn’t drop 3 games, he wouldn’t be in such a vulnerable position. That slow banelings taking out 22 scv in the last game was the final nail in the coffin.
The last few months it’s been Roaches and Queens Walking across the map, basically Stephano at the end of WoL, Back when they first added the actual range attack to Queens, rather than it being a dumb long range melee attack, and transfuse was a flat 100 health heal. At least the “Seoul Stroll” is a good name for it 😂
Maru looked really shaky this whole season imo. His marine spreads/etc looked pretty sloppy, seemed like he was second guessing himself a lot too. He should have lost to Trap, Trap basically threw three games then got cheesed.
The main issue is that terran can't produce fast enough to keep up with the constant wave attack of zerg. The second issue is that terran doesn't have strong enough unit tech in the early game to hold off the Roach Ravager frontal attacks. Mauraders are good, but not enough. If you notice the fights, terran consistently lacks an anchor point on which to hold his defences. I think this is definitely a strong zerg meta strategy, but perhaps if Terran had built planetaries at his third bases, he might have been able to fight around them, and thus he might have been able to protect his scv line better, thus allowing him to continue to max out. Basically Zerg played like a true zerg, using mass wave attacks and simple micro to grind the terran into dust. Pretty much the same strategy that the Soviets used against the Nazis. Amazing gameplay and strategy by Rogue for sure, although Maru's micro was nothing to laugh at either.
Check the fights where terran is winning (g4) maru is intentionally constricting the field with buildings to create an advantageous position. In so many of these engagements, zerg has a superior arc. It's mostly due to T playing to his tanks (which works great vs. ling) but when roaches get their ideal arc against marines, it's really rough.
It would be awesome if they did but they won't because if people don't watch until the end of the video it messes up the youtube algorithm for video suggestions.
yeah spoils it when you see Rogue 3-1 and notice only 20 mins left in video... which presumably includes a trophy ceremony, so safe to say who won and viewing spoiled.
Maru not in his top form. That already showed in the semis. Grats to Roguer Zerg Gamer for a anstonishing performance. Beast mode in macro, micro and decisinmaking
it was a good game imo- i understand that producers probably want a close game, but in terms of pure stratergy and preperation Rogue smashed this. Never thought roach ravager complete army was anything more than for laddar.
@@JacKThEREapER0 It's not like that. It's a stratergy that is not usualy the "main army" because it does not do well against higher tech unites. Roach ravager is considered to be a slightly "lesser skill" laddar army, Rogue pulled it off with such skill and smashed victory.
I can rewatch it again and again. 60 banelings rolling. Priceless surprise face of Maru. Following zerglings CC hit&run. Thank you Rogue for this entertaining match!
These are the finals that assure us all that the action is not scripted, it is, indeed, as real as it gets. This looked like a C day of ladder games from Maru and a carefully choreographed coffin dance from Rogue.
It's not even an all in. A Zerg can recover from a roach rush 10 times easier than a Protoss can recover from a 2 base immortal sentry, or a terran can with a 2 base tank marine scv.
As I am no expert, please you expert guys tell me why maru didn't build a raven for the first three games. Wouldn't anti armor missile shut this down? Or would it just be too much of an investement?
they never thought of it. they spend all their time learning how to click and push buttons with insane speed. it's like why boxers and fighters have coaches and strategists. they just punch, someone else needs to think for them.
Anti armor is a joke. There are reasons higher rank and pros dont use it, dont bother. Seeker missile use to keep mass strart in micro skill check. Now Raven is generally a low value unit.
Ill answer this: Raven is a heavy gas investment and time out of the starport/techlab build time. 1 Raven is equivalent of 2 medivac/tanks. If it was just for that, your idea could work but the main problem come from Mana/radius. In most games, Rogue waited to be max to push, if he scout the raven, he can easily split his roach and only get 5-10 to get hit at most. (and he has like 30-10ravager at that point) You don't have 4 shots of anti-armor missile, you have 1 or 2 at most. If you hit 5 or less roaches/ravagers, you insta lose because the raven doesn't make up its cost and you need the DPS. If you hit 10(which you would have to be lucky and rogue not splitting), Rogue can easily just go back a bit with those and wait 10s and push again. It might save you a bit of time, but the problem against the build is an economy one. By pushing and doing a lot of economic damage, you prevent a 3rd base from ever going up while you have a 3rd of your own and a 4th on the way.
Maru just letting Rogue do what he wants, really poor harass in the early game. Multiple hellions dying for 1 or 2 drones every time. The only game where he started getting some real damage was f_ed by loosing 22 workers to slow banes. Rogue really deserving this win.
It feels like this was a strat to take out specificly Maru. Maybe Rouge did some research and found out Maru plays greedy in a way that is weak to Roaches.
2:15:36 "Rogue is exploding right now!" - amusing choice of words, considering what the widow mines do to rogue immediately after Artosis says this. XD
Love that content announcement for this year AfreecaTV is the bomb! Can't wait for 3 super tournaments. Also this GSL finals i'm about to watch!!! WOOOOOO GO MARU
roach need to be nerfed i think, makes mid game so boring. Protoss now hat voidray to deal with it but for terran is really hard. i still remembered last 2 year when all Z just have to mass roach, F2 A move to win games, if not...just trade roach and macro at home :)
I am kind of new to SC2 but how do you really counter this rush? I mean I heard the commentators mention a battclecrusier rush, but other than that would a few bunkers work too?
@@endefisto123 Well, you see Maru actually did hold that Roach Ravager push in game 2, then he just get bone-headed and move all of his Bio away leaving the Tanks completely defenseless. To defend this as Bio Terran, you need to delay the 3rd CC, get earlier Tanks production from the Factory, and set up a couple Bunkers in the front. Terran has been holding against this since the beginning of LOTV, Maru just get the rugged pull under his feet because he never expected Rogue to do this in consecutive games. As for the BC-Mech, technically it should also counter this roach style because they dont shoot up, and BC can teleported over early to get quicker scout and delay the push by taking down drone, focing more Queens, Spores, ect..
Bien por Rogue, imparable! Merecido campeón. Maru no estuvo a la altura de la final, su nivel estuvo bajo, que raro 🤔. Seguro que Trap lo Hubiera hecho mejor, lástima. Felicitaciones Rogue 👏🏻
I'm revisiting after I started playing zerg, and I'm just mind boggled at how Rogue keeps breaking tank lines with roach ravagers like it's nobody's business.
This was the best macro zwerg i have seen since serral was at his best! More Bases, more workers, more army (yeah not the best, but enough mass) and even in upgrades. Great zerg play rouge :)
slow trickle of damage=inevitable loss Maru was shamed away from using 2 rax by Rogue in the video before. He should have opened the first game with a 2 rax to fry Rogue's nerves.
not enough money and time . you see zerg max production at 8 min , while maru has only 13x-14x and 60 drone vs 40 scv . how can he stand against rouge with every single strike . beside that he need marine also for raid and defend zergling.
Careful of the two base timing as well. Best method is to get in early harass for a bit of scouting and slow down the max out and switch to marauders + Medivacs for the first push. More gas friendly than tanks for close battles.
Damn, what a spanking.... tbh I was kinda expecting it, felt like rogue was the clear favorite but still that was a pretty perfect series from him. Congrats to Rogue!
@@Abayake It's an OP a-move/attack race and I was sure of this result as soon as I saw Rogue form in this tournament (which is below 80% ). He dominates other tournaments in top form and can only be challenged by another zerg (Dark (in top form), Serral, Raynor). No other player/race has even a REMOTE chance of winning.

Years later, he suddenly appeared to the public as a supporting role for his girlfriend who was a successful youtuber. On her channel, Husky made a video on reading the comments in his last video since a lot of those comments were about how disappointed they were because Husky just left them hanging dry. Most of these comments were logical explaining how Husky’s actions were ungrateful towards his viewers and how he wasn’t that great at handling the situation. What Husky did was on his reaction video: he purposely chose only the comments that insulted Husky in a very immature way. He portrayed as if all of his disgruntled viewers were acting like them and were hating on Husky for no good reason. Husky continuously mocked the viewers as a whole. Husky never apologized or thanked towards the viewers for his actions but he had the audacity to mock them. He later explained that he had problems with his voice so he stopped doing RU-vid, but that doesn’t explain how he couldn’t tell his viewers when he stopped doing RU-vid and just hide from his viewers.

SPOILERS! Between the first 3 games vs. Trap and the 4 wins Rogue had here, Maru has proven to be predictable and uncreative. Maru will probably go down as one of the greatest mechanical players of all time, but IMO, his former teammates have shown during this GSL that there is something inherently missing from his games.
He is a bit like Inno in that regard. Soo was also another teammate, who countered Maru hard and threw him out of a WCS. Forgot the year, but it was the year, when Maru dominated all GSLs and was top favourite to be the next worlchampion. And then he proxyraxed 3 times vs Soo and Soo hardcountered it 3 times and kicked him out of the tourny.
One of the best macro terran out there, have medivac, tanks, marines and marauders and get killed by roach ravager. These games where just stupid and lame. Rogue was afraid to go late game.
@@alexandrelachance77 In case you missed it, Maru had incredibly fast drilling claws and had some terrifying pushes to end the game early.
