Weird how car fans come on here and hate on amazing cars. You're allowed to recognise a great car, be it a Megane or a Type R. I own a type R but I'd be an incredible fool to say French hot hatches are crap.
Man, even back in the day the Megane was a force to be reckoned with ;) lovely little car. Same goes for the Civic, it can sure run for not having a turbo.
Where are all the 'its a fix'...'its staged' comments now?? Great little battle! Im not sure the acceleration difference is much at all, usually when a car infront with slightly better traction accelerates first it looks slightly misleading. Love the whole idea behind the r26r! Wish more manufacturers did one off specials like this. Also a 1,07,6 beats the latest civic and the golf club sport which is pretty impressive
GazRwood People only say it's staged when a Japanese car wins. Funny how they never think any Western car shows are. Also if the FD2 had S tyres that would be a huge help in the infield section so you can step on the gas earlier and also it will give it a greater exit speed out of the last corner which can affect the outcome of the race. Even better if they used a Mugen RR instead of the standard Type R considering the Megane is a special one off track model and the Mini is a factory tuned model as well.
Totally agree, i love the short sightedness of some people! Excuse my sarcasm though before. These guys love cars and praise western cars jjust as much.
alfamonk lmao 😂😂😂 the fanboy is strong in you the driver in the Megane is not just any driver he’s one of the best in the show. He has a different driving style. The heavier and underpowered Honda was tailing the Megane at the end.
alfamonk oh and the overrated Megane compared to the CTR also has racing tires vs regular average street tires. The time attack laps were close to 1 sec difference. Add the same tires on the ctr and the poor Megane will lose here.
@@TheBb6prelude Overrated Renault? well the R26.R make a lap in nurburgring in 8.16 minutes, and the FK2 Type R made by Sport Auto magazine make a 8.15 minutes with Contisportcontact 6... Of course the tyre is more advanced, but is underpower and the chassis is not anymore top class... and still today is a weapon, same with the FD2
In a previous battle the standard Megane 165 was able to outrun the DC5 Integra R until the last corner of the last lap when the tires gave up. I don't know what the result would be if the civic had semi slick tires as well, but i doubt it would be easy to pass the Renault. Although the Mini didn't do well, its potential is proven. At one point the Minis by Giomic/Mini garden were the fastest fwd on the touge. Faster than Spoon, J's Racing, Seeker.
I don't get why they only sold the jcw minis with run flat tires that were pretty much garbage Switching to regular tires like continental extreme contact dws 06 + Transforms the car I do personally think it would match the pace of the type r on most circuits from that alone The GP1 and GP2 jcw minis are the best minis ever made in the Grand Prix editions
No problem for the Megane R26R. I don't even think he was pushing it that hard, while the Type R driver was sweating his balls off. Definitely plenty left in the Megane.
@@cluckinbell1974 The Megane is just a faster car, straight up. There is a reason the Megane was the front drive Nurburgring record holder and the Honda....wasn't. In the Honda the guy is working that wheels hard and snapping the gear changes. The dude in the Megane looks like he is just cruising around by comparison.
@@hi2lenduffy837majority of the tracks the GP has the upper hand Although they are both completely fantastic ff drivers car's along with the type r Hondas of course Would be unfair to not mention the ford focus RS mk1 those are a savage as well
nice race as alway, but, that was fun to see doridori to push hard at each corner to follow the megane wich didnt even push in corner LOL, logic it was a r26r anyway.
That Renault R26R is impressive. 123 kg less than the R26 and comes with optional Toyo track tires from factory. The suspension is tuned according to if it does have the track tires. Everything about the motor is the same. 227bhp and 228lb ft. I wonder how a 2016 version of this car would perform against a 2016 Civic Type R? I guess you could tune the engine some to give it an added 60 bhp to match the 2016 Type R.
I had an R26, running standard engine with exhaust and filter. It produced 271bhp and 285lbs torque. Went well! Forge them and you can get 330ish no problem...
maximus9401 kicking the clutch rises the rpm of the engine and the momentum of high revs gives the car a push after the clutch engages again, it quickly overcomes the low torque rpm band.
What would be very good is an old Integra with a low boost supercharger. Something along the line of 3/4 psi should be enough. It enables good response and bit more top end without sacrificing high CR.
I feel the mini would be a serious contender with the other 2 if it didn't come with runflats from the factory which is really stupid. The car itself though is a riot
none of the tires here were fair. Even the Type R had regular street compound tires which is why it couldn't catch up in the corners. They should all have the same tire for these tests imo.
The run flats are standard on all jcw cars and I think it really hindered the performance severel Also the minis had the LSD as an option which does wonders to its performance y@@gallardo20000
Pity whoever was driving the Mini, well, just couldn't drive. With that start and the handling the JCW have it just doesn't add up. Would love to have seen the drivers switch all cars X3 for an accurate result.
I know I'm late but should've used a mini Cooper jcw gp2 as it's quicker on smaller tracks like this compared to the other 2 Plus the regular jcw comes with runflats which is a huge hindering factor.
***** dude... its pointless considering that crappy french thing has only 2 doors no back seats, partially stripped with half cage, carbon bucket seats and a Turbo, forget about the tires which are a massive difference in the first place. i call massive BS. but hey if that's what it takes to win by an inch... i would still take the Honda in a heartbeat.
+Amun TOO That crappy french thing no matter the tires is still one of the best FF cars ever made. Members of my family and Motorsport community in our country have raced Renault sport and Renault Alpine vehicles for over 40 years with numerous victories on International rallies and regional close circuit races. They drive and race them not because they are Renault fanboys but because they have proved themselves in history and they still work.
+Amun TOO crappy french hothatch ? You seems have shit on eyes crappy friend, Renault Sports are the best hothatch, Lutecia won, R26 R won and Megane 250 won !
Yes superior in this specific race. The type R is still a better car overall I'd say; as is a Golf R . You can easily reach 400 whp with a few grand to spare in the civic; not to mention it looks way better and has a way better interior quality. If you ever worked on a civic you appreciate how precise everything is parted together; every bolt has a part number, everything organized and clean
It's stupid for sure the jcw minis only come on run flat tires that are honestly pretty garbage. Swapping to regular tires I think the mini would match the pace of the other two It showed it had good pace and of course he handling
Kenton Patterson I guess so. But the prototype version they used was basically the production version lol. Just no AC, stereo, and front seat. Lapped at 7:50. That's a huge gap from 8~. Nonetheless, Honda is stepping it up.
CheezyGeez I get what Your saying but since the dc2 &dc5 the competition has caught up its not production it will tads slower with the final product but it taken this long ...I have a 2000 accord euro r I am a Honda man but I've been disappointed with the performance division of Honda ( keep in mind that the new type R will be Euro only
Kenton Patterson Nice, Euro R is a favorite of mine. Sucks it's not available in the US. But yea, news is that Honda is going global with their designs and at the auto show out here in the US, they said the CTR will be available globally. However, other countries may get it before the USA.
