How many years (or cycles of charge) are batteries expected to last? How much does it cost a replacment battery? Since battery performances depend on temperature or humidity what is the range supposed to be by its design with a safty margin? Why no back-up engine (or generator) is provided? How much time does it take to recharge the battery pack? I understand sailing sounds so old and wind is not there everyday, but ...

Or the dead wildlife caused by spillage of lithium brine? There are a lot of problems with mining lithium and it's even worse with cobalt, which is more rare and toxic. However it's still it's no where near as polluting as petroleum. That's one of the reasons I think that in the correct way forward is a combination of fuel cells and batteries.

@lifesgood6480
@lifesgood6480 4 года назад
Yes it does. The shaft is already spinning. Id suspect on some kind of frequency drive. The generator can be in line with main shaft. Thus whenever the main shaft is spinning. The inline generator. Will use wasted energy from the shaft. With a true soft start. Autotransition between the batteries could be smooth and undetected. Accept by gauge or meter. Sorry gotta go to work now,cheers.

Generator rotor goes in line with main shaft. Uses wasted torque to generate. Absolutely doable.

If just 1 foot of the shaft was iron cored. This would be a rotor. If a copper winding (mounted stationary) was wound around the shaft/drive live. It would generate a back EMF. As the drive spins. This could rectified and used to charge the batteries. You got me on the weight;but,this is still has utility. Imagine your out on the water. Batteries are running low. You could flip a switch. And charge while you drive. Just a concept. I doubt there is a battery that can perform to these types of loads.

This makes me very happy and very sad at the same time. If the hull designers of this boat used the sq.m of the hull to store it's lithium power packs this would have been perfect. Here's some very simple math to explain why this boat is a complete failure. Area of hull that could have been used to store batteries: 19.75m² Area per 75KwH using 21700 lithium cell packs (Tesla model 3): 1.15m² Number of 21700 packs that could fit inside this boat: 17.17 Available power density when using the hull to store the batteries: 1.288 MEGAWATT HOUR What this boat is being sold with: 125 Kilowatt hour Seriously, how did the designers of this boat miss such a golden opportunity? Edit: The price per kilowatt in this boat is absurd! Tesla is only paying $111 per kWh on their 21700 cells. Who the hell is dumb enough to spend %1000 markup on a failed plan?

Electric is great, because the worst thing about motor-boating is the engine noise and exhaust fumes. I can't wait to see more boats powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Motors, with compressed gas-tank fill-up taking only minutes, using Hydrogen sourced by splitting H2O by electrolysis powered by Solar & Wind Electricity. H2 is a great energy storage medium for Solar & Wind Electricity. We already have H2 Fuel Cell Cars, Buses and Trains, and boats are next.
