Lucas Mwangi thank you for the kind words. The depth and breadth of the stories that our people carry with them continues to delight and inspire us.

I have a different opinion engage is just local folklore all of them with the exception of caroline Mutoko are an autobiographical narration of overcoming. Most engage talks I have watched follow this flow; my childhood, my dream, obstacles, my victories, thank you so much. Either the speakers are intimidated or are never given ample time to prepare for a talk. No one wants to hear about you if you have not done something extra ordinary. If it is about you, what relevance does it have to majority of us, read obama's autobiography, or listen to Jalango's story those have a right to tell us about them. Comparing with TEDx is unfair to most speakers in "engage" who only have a local, personal view of their narration which only influences a very small sphere of interaction. I love engage but I think it is Kenyan. While TED is global. Solution for me would be to have Engage Gold once a year, bring Kenyans who have excelled globally, cause the ones we know only come to prominence in death, The wangari Mathais, Ali Mazrui, and professor calistus Jumas people who have done and are doing things on a grand scale. Let them speak about how to compete and excel in the Global field, this will widen the Kenyan scope of possibilities and opportunities. Afterall we are part of the global family but if we do not go to the global table we will always be served as a dish on that table. Thats what TED does local stories with a Global impact.

Lucas Mwangi It sure does because it is people we identify with.People we know, places we have been in and situations we can relate to.This the kind of material I would use for student assemblies for aspiration and inspiration. Hope #EngageTalk are able to pilot it with some school.Children need to here some of these stories.Congratuations for the initiative!!

dean king Thank you very much for watching and moreso for your feedback. You comment has articulated what Engage is. We love TED and are not trying to replicate it. Engage provides a platform for ordinary and extraordinary people to Inform, Inspire and Influence by sharing their ordinary and extraordinary experience and stories. The experiences shared by media personalities mentioned are relatable, as many ordinary people have been through similar experiences but the speakers have had the privilege of being amplified by their career choices and hence are well known to a larger majority of Kenyans. Our desire is to provide a platform for ordinary and extraordinary Africans to Inform, Inspire and Influence by sharing their ordinary and extraordinary experiences. Everyone has a story. What's yours @dean king? We love your idea of an Engage that showcases Kenyans (and Africans) who have achieved extraordinary feats on the global stage. Any names come to mind? We have to sit at the global table and not only feature as a standard menu item 😊. We also must lay a table attractive enough for others to seek an invitation to. We must be the authors and narrators of the African story. Thank you.

Engage Talk I like your response, like I said I think the speakers are so flat. As for Kenyan names, you have a lot of people, who have excelled from sports to Academia, Mariga, could talk about his experience from the ghetto to winning the champions league, eliud kipchoge could talk about the Kenyan resilience to do good despite having so little to work with. Dr Leakey a global respected paleontologist could speak about how Kenya is important in the study of life and what the young generation can do to seek answers in how humanity evolved. The topics are endless and the human resource runs deep, not everything has to touch on politics and poverty.

I write about violence as naturally as Jane Austen wrote about manners. Violence shapes and obsesses our society, and if we do not stop being violent we have no future. A very encouraging presentation. Keep it up.

Kenyan women are so beautiful and soft spoken.Amazing women. And well educated look at how eloquent she is,who says African women don't get education, are not educated ,or smart ?In the west they believe that African women are hopeless , waiting to be rescued and given knowledge. Good work Suhayla.God bless you.
