Good video. I love the original (Graphite) Engage Pursuit MX Pro 6.0. Yes, very confusing with the naming. I got the original Lite version and then beefed it up with lead tape. It wasn't as hard on my elbow as the newer paddles. But these days I need something with more spin and more power. I like that the swing weight of these is under 115. Love the long handle. I'm very tempted to get one of these new ones.
I’m so happy you reviewed the light version. I’ve been using standard weights for several years and have switched to lights last season. 7.8-7.9. I did have to add some weight to the sides offsetting the twist rate but I was really surprised how much it improved my game. After using many thermoformed paddles I went back to the gen 1 Engage Pursuit Pro Mx 16mm. I have a pro 1 on order. It’s going to have to be great to outdo my pro but will see. I just like the softer feel of the gen 1 over the hard thermal formed paddles. I don’t feel like I’m paying more for less regarding old technology however if they did away with their veteran first responder discounts I would reconsider as there are definitely paddles at half the price that would be enticing…
I got this in a standard weight and love it over the Pro MX 6.0. Haven’t had any issues with sweet spot in the standard weight but I’m not a competition player.
another amaz vid. I have the Pro MX 6.0. I appreciate how Engage learned from their mistakes and now tweaked a good paddle to give options. If the Pro and Pro1 had been released at the same time id probably have gone with the Pro1 as i like the Pro but would want it a tad lighter and softer. Big thing is price bc I only bought the Pro due to black Friday sales (with codes) for $176. For me, its worth that price at MOST but at this point, there seems to be a bunch that do the exact same thing as the Pro1- leaning power and poppier- with 115-118 SW, but are cheaper. Coming to mind are the Azul (kevlars) and Hurache X. Im super pumped for the 'gen3' Vatic Oni ($160 b4 code) and will prob pre-order it.
Nice review as usual. The combination of spin with extended length and low swing weight, while maintaining power gives you so many options reaching in on flicks and rolls. I’m hesitant to add weight and potentially mess with the magic wand-like super-power of this thing, but might give it a shot.

Hello John. Just curious. How would you compare the Engage Pursuit Pro 1 MX model vs the Joola Gen 3 Hyperion Ben Johns 16 mm (light green edge guard)? What would your opinion or overview be? Please and thank you.
I can’t help but wonder if there is more they could do with foam and perimeter weighting. Seems like it is only missing a bigger sweet spot. Is thermoforming the only solution or are there other ways to get a better sweet spot. Seems like they have the rest figured out with power, pop, spin and a low swing weight.
The twist weight just seems too low imo with all the other options on the market. Weighting these up to address that will just put them in line with thermoformed paddles that have larger sweet spots and IMO are easier to control because they don't have that 'bouncy' feel.

Cant see spending that much money on that model when you can get a ruby for 180 after the discount. Do you think if they added foam all the way down that it would eliminate the need for weight strips, and make the paddle perform better?
I think foam all the way down would improve performance. I'd love to see a thermoformed variety of these paddles. Given how powerful/poppy they are as a Gen-1 paddle, thermoforming them might put them up there with Gearbox and Joola Gen-3
