Today we finish up the V10 Rx7 engine bay shave. We've already finished up all the metal work, now we just need to do all the body filler work, a whole bunch of sanding, then prime!

I don't think I've seen anyone use fiberglass reinforced body filler in lieu of seam sealer before, but I like the idea.

I still use seam sealer on spot welded joints, but seam sealer offers no benefits on top of seams that have been seam welded. And yeah fibreglass filler is unbelievably strong

You guys make me want to do this to my car. Instead of bondo I'll use marine filler. looks and works just like bondo, safe to use below the waterline. It does cost about five times as much as bondo.

Ever try using 3m panel body instead of fiber? I just finished doing my bay. I pulled most of the seam sealer out and replaced abit of it with panel body and fiberglass'd over it. came out super smooth and in theory also stitch welded.

We considered it, and yeah that’s a really good way to do a shave as well. If we were doing just a couple areas we might have gone that route but we were already welding so many other things in the engine bay that we just stuck with it

Dude, you shoulda etch primed all the welds and bare surface, Different techniques i guess! Wonder how good of a seal fiberglass really is without etching the steel?

I am not trying to hate on the build because I think it's cool putting a v10 in an rx7 but I just can't help to think about its original weight distribution but other than that dope build and can't wait to see it on a track

The Viper V10 engine is 625 lb and the 13B is about 250 lbs. Thats a 375 lb difference not too bad considering the battery will probably be in the trunk and they got Fortune Auto coilovers with an adjusted spring rate for the extra weight in the front.

A 13B is actually closer to 450+ with the heavy cast manifolds and engine dressings. We realistically should see about a 200lb gain in the front! Definitely not enough to ruin the balance
