Engine oil leak fix How to change sump oil pan gasket Renault Trafic Vauxhall Vivaro Primastar f9q 1.9dci
In this video I will show you how I fixed my Renault Trafic engine oil leak by simply replacing the sump / oil pan gasket.
Thanks for watching, this is one of my many videos on the Renault Trafic, Vauxhall Vivaro/ Opel vivaro and Nissan Primastar.
I am working on my Renault Trafic 2006, 1.9dci f9q lwb
The procedure is the same for Vauxhall vivaro Opel vivaro and Nissan Primastar both the 1.9dci and the 2.0cdti engines. Same on swb and lwb

Brilliant video and your tip about the 6mm 12 point socket was great! Just one thing I wanted to add is not to overdo it with the silcon. When I removed the sump I noticed the oil lift was completely clogged with slicone that has came off. This lead to the Big End Bearings needing to be replaced which is why I had removed the sump in the first place. I am not sure how long the silcon had been applied or really how much the previous owner had used but just something I wanted to mention as it can lead to big issues down the line. With proper application and regular inspection, I would imagine it shouldn't be an issue! Thanks!

Gonna have a crack at this in the next week or so. This video is excellent

Easy job as long as you can raise the van a bit to give you some space to work underneath. Worth doing it. If you are still getting an oil leak after this it is probably rear main seal or it could be a gearbox shaft seal🤝
@BigTubz
@BigTubz Год назад
@@TheKeenMechanic I've also read that the oil pressure sensor could be a source of the problem?

@@BigTubzThe way I try to find leaks is by thoroughly cleaning the area of suspected leaks with brake cleaner ans then you can clearly see where the leak is coming from. If your oil leak is coming from above the sump then it is not the sump gasket, gearbox seal or rear main seal. Check the oil level sensor area, pcv/dip stick joint with engine block, valve cover gasket area. As I mentioned above just clean the engine 1st. Hope this helps

excellent video! but I have a doubt/problem: when putting the crankcase back together, after everything was done, I noticed that I forgot the plastic part for the chain. Is it worrisome, or can you do without it?

I would advise you to install it if you can as it must be there for a reason. Hope you get sorted🤝🏻

@@TheKeenMechanic thank you very much for replying! I would, but I'm trying to find info on if it's an obligatory part, or not, because two of the torx bolts almost stripped on the disassembly and I'm certain they will strip completely if I try to disassemble one more time :(

Do i need to do all of this just to remove the sump pan? I thought id just need to remove all the little bolts on the pan and that would be it?
@TheKeenMechanic

This is the easiest way for doing the job. No other way I am afraid. Believe it or not this is a very straight forward removal. If you have worked on VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes you will know what I am talking about. On some models you have to drop the whole suspension and steering rack just to remove the sump. 🤝

What did you use to clean the surface of the engine that the sump mounts onto? I don't want to spray any brake cleaning or get any dirt up in the cylinders. Thanks
@TheKeenMechanic
@TheKeenMechanic 6 месяцев назад
Hi Just spray brake cleaner on a clean rag and use it to clean the sump gasket surfaces. You will not get any dirt in that way as the block to sump surface faces down. Hope this helps and hope I understood your question correctly

What type of silicone did you use? I can't see that this will make much difference to just using the gasket. Might cause problems because the force and sealing is supposed to be taken up by the gasket. Some people use it some don't. Who knows. Worried about filling mine back up with oil. Did your sump leak or was it OK?
@TheKeenMechanic
@TheKeenMechanic 6 месяцев назад
Hi buddy, I used Viktor Reinz reinzosil silicone on the inside of the gasket. Not on top of the new rubber gasket but on the inside. 2 years later and I can confirm no leaks. I have only done this once on this sump so I can't tell you if it is the new gasket or the combination of the two that worked. If you don't want to try the silicone just go with a new gasket and make sure the surfaces are very clean. It may work for you just with the new gasket.🤝🏻

Do you know when and when not to use sealant? For example would you also use it on the metal gaskets when refitting the turbo? I assume you wouldn't use it with the metal gasket on the EGR valve, for example
@TheKeenMechanic
@TheKeenMechanic 6 месяцев назад
@@SoloBench Hi Generally clean surfaces very well and install good quality gaskets / O-rings without any silicone unless stated in the repair manual. Do not use silicone on metal gaskets for turbo and EGR valves due to high heat. This sump is the 1st time I applied silicone along with a new gasket as I read up about a common problem with these sumps being warped. Just use new gaskets and make sure all surfaces are very clean.🤝🏻
