In this tutorial video, we take a look at how to program the Engine Out Proceedures into the Secondary Flight Plan Page of the MCDU. We go through different examples ranging from easy EO SIDS to more complex ones and explain how we create the waypoints needed to perform the EO SID so that the Autopilot can retain control of the aicraft in the event that we lose and engine and need to get somewhere safe after the take-off roll.

Masterfully explained and much-needed video! The 3rd case was the most complex and I have seen it VMC explaining once during flight w/ double bearings-- but now thiis is all clear. Kudos Gavin.

But Captain during a Sim interview we will not have this program SimSmart A320 Neo performance calculator, so how we will find the escape route point ??

Engine out proceedures are usually airline specific and provided to pilots by the airlines.

GREAT Video, But where can I find the EO Procedure in general? Are there any charts for those in real Life?

EO proceedures are airline specific, so they are not on any charts.

Hi. Thanks for the helpful guide. In the case of LIMC, I don't understand why the EFAIL point was further south than the SRN VOR. This way it looks as if the aircraft should return to the SRN VOR and then enter HOLD
@Easyjetsimpilot

Yes, I believe this is a slight drawing bug in the Fenix.
@giantaxe3958
@giantaxe3958 Год назад
@@Easyjetsimpilot I followed this video along whilst in the simulator and noticed the the odd drawing so I drew a couple of radials using fix info and noticed there is actually no intersection between the 120 degree radial on the user defined waypoint and the 330 degree radial of SRN. I did a bit more testing and realised if there’s no intersection for two radials, it will draw the reciprocal of one of them until they do meet so in this case the Airbus drew the 330 degree radial back through SRN as the 150 degree radial until it met the 120 degree radial of the user defined waypoint (just south-east of SRN). I guess the procedure takes into account the distance you cover in the turn from runway heading to 120 after passing the 8.0 NM point and expects you to intercept the 330 radial from your position after you’ve finished the turn. To make the procedure slightly more accurate you could add another waypoint slightly further north of the 8.0 NM point and use that for the 120/330 degree intersection. That way you’ll arrive at the holding point from the north west which is much more suitable for an inbound course of 125 in the pattern.

Literally been crying out for a tutorial on the secondary flight plan and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Quick question, do we climb to the initial climb and stay at initial climb if we are following the EO procedure? Or would this usually be instructed by ATC?

This is your choice and you'd mention it in your pre-flight brief. You'd get yourself upto a safe Altitude at or above MSA.

So, let's summarize. I understood how to set alternate flight plan and barely understood where to get the data to program. But I completely do not understand the procedure. Let me think of it: 1) I fill alternate flight plan on take off 2) During Flight Planning Briefing I say: if engine failures, I activate alternate flight plan. The aircraft activates it's holding pattern and then lands at the Origin Airport manually. 3) If everything goes normally, I continue my flight and change alternate flight plan to alternate DEST airport on flight, correct? 4) If something goes wrong in cruise, I manually land an aircraft at suitable airport? Or I need to edit my alternate flight plan once more?

Nice video, especially for someone who hasn't yet had the chance to play with secondary F-PLN's. However: At 22:50, the EFAIL WPT appears to be behind the SRN VOR and its holding pattern when at 18:34 you say it should be way further north. Was your gesture just very much not to scale or was there some error when entering the EFAIL WPT?
@VmcgHD
@VmcgHD Год назад
I think it might have been the programming. And this might be just a bug. What Gav did was technically correct. Basically say I want that EFAIL waypoint to be 120° from the PRB04 waypoint and on the 330° radial from SRN. But it seemed to think that meant 330° inbound to SRN. Which would have been on the reciprocal radial of 150°. I’m not sure if this is just a bug or how the real aircraft works it out. I’d need to play and look. But close recognition of where these waypoints are being placed is pretty critical and yes, the EFAIL was in the incorrect place. The definition that should work would be “PBD-120/SRN-150”. This should place the EFAIL waypoint to the NW of SRN so you can then intercept and fly the 330° radial inbound to it (flying 150°) to take up the hold. Then just enter the hold in whatever entry that’s required. I’m not sure if this would be the correct way to define it or if there’s just some anomaly with the FMGC where you might need to use the reciprocal radial if you’re defining waypoints using bearings. 👍
