hello Sri, I have the interceptor 650 2022 model, I saw this video and quickly went to check my relays (though I am not facing this issue) and I found out that the relays installed on my interceptor has 4pins only. Guess RE actually listens to their customer complaints eh ?
The issue seems related more to the quality of the relays and the grease on the pins than the pin count itself. In a 4-pin relay, two pins are for the coil and two pins are for the actual load like the fuel pump or horns. When power is supplied to the coil's pins, the coil magnetises and cuases the load pins to get connected together, thereby supplying power to the fuel pump. In a 5-pin relay, the extra pin is already connected to one of the load pins and stays connected when the coil is without power. When the coil is powered up, the extra pin gets disconnected and the other two load pins get connected. Basically, a 5-pin relay is needed where you need one device to stay on even when the relay is off but divert power to another device when the relay is on. So, the fifth pin in each of your 5-pin relays was likely not in use. Your 5-pin relays were simply acting as 4-pin relays.
This is really good information. But yea those were the cause of my bike not starting about a month ago. And I thought it was only because of low fuel or cold start. And as soon as I changed to 4 pins, the issue was eliminated. And I have not faced that issue ever since.
@@SrinivasGanesh Yeah, that's why RE decided to change the relays in newer batches. I saw a video on the issue of relays in which the uploader mentioned that the newer models come with 4-pin relays of better quality. I think it was The Bingley Wheeler. He also mentioned the dollops of grease applied to the pins from the factory. In any case, if 4-pin relays work in your bike without any modifications to the wiring harness, it clearly means that the old 5-pin relays were acting like 4-pin relays. So your issue was likely bad relays which have affected many other 650 owners especially first batch buyers. Mine is a 2022 Interceptor so it likely already has 4-pin units. I will check later this week.
@@twowheeledparadox ah even though mine is aBS6 engine, it had 5 pin relays. Yes you are right, this could just be an issue of a batch with bad relays.
I ordered 5 pin Panasonic relay but received 4 pin one. I was about to return it but then I watched your video and it assured me to go with it. Thanks man!

G'Day mate. I have just happened across your channel and I must admit that your content and presentation is just terrific. I really appreciate your style in presenting this valuable information in such a concise and easy going manner. Quite humorous as well by the way. I am waiting delivery of my '23 Interceptor 650, in the Baker Express colour of course(it's the coolest of the colours I reckon), and I am really looking forward to be an RE owner. Downsized from my fjr1300 due to medical reasons. I was so impressed with all aspects of this bike when I test rode it, I instantly dismissed the notion of considering the Triumph T100 as a replacement for the fjr. I had test ridden both bikes back to back to get a really solid impression of how each bike made me feel. Couldn't wipe the smile off my dial when I stepped off the Interceptor. Cannot wait for my RE to be in my garage so that I can tinker with it and find out where all the bits go. Isn't that part of the joy of being a motorcycle enthusiast? I am 65 years old and somewhat broken in body, but not in spirit. I have started my 50th year of riding and owning motorcyles, and if the "big fella" upstairs continues to let me be above ground and breathing, I will always ride.Again, thoroughly enjoy your channel, subscribed, and I will now go back and watch all of your previous productions. Bro i think yu should create an 650 twin group where every technical issue we are facing can be discuused esaily. The issue i am facing these service people dont know to do. It will be useful as a community if we have one group.

Hey sri , could you please help me out.... my. Gt650 works fine for the first 15 minutes( the time period for which engine is warm , not hot.. just my guess) ...l it starts to shut off randomly after getting hot or after fueling up ( everytime I fuel up , it starts to shut off randomly) and .... if I try to turn on ignition just after imy motorcycle shuts off or engine power cuts off , the start button doesn't respond and THE START BUTTON RESPONDS ONLY AFTER I TOGGLE THE KILLMSWITCH OFF AND ON ... only then my bike ignition works and my motorcycle starts .... and again after few minutes it will turn off while riding and the cycle continues ............. I observed this mostly after I put fuel into my bike ... also the MIL will turn on temporarily .... .. what might be the issue .... RR unit ? Relays? Fuel, pump ?? What is it??
Hey, there are many brands of relays. The one I actually wanted to get was from Bosch. Bosh 12v relay. It is available on amazon uk, but not in India. So I went with the one Royal Enfield provides as standard.
@@SrinivasGanesh Ah, ok. A similar issue was solved by wildlife moto (video on YT) whose interceptor 'died' during driving, very dangerous, replacing 5 pin relays with new Ones from Bosch but always with 5 pin. bye

Hi I have 2019 interceptor and faced the problem last night, but somehow it started...but tension creeped up. After seeing the video planning to replace relay with 4 pin; one query will there be any problem in long run if 5 pin chnaged to 4 pin? Why did RE gave 5 pin in first place? Please guide
Today my interceptor shut off suddenly while riding and is not starting after that. It behaving exactly like in your video. I towed it to the nearby service centre and they will check it tomorrow. Hope it’s something small like the relay.

Soemthing off the topic.. Sri have you faced any isssues with the powerage end cans, thinking of switching to the short versions of them but been skeptical about it because of the negative reviews i saw on youtube. A lot of people are complaining about irregular revs after installing them and i have heard a theory that the short ones dont hold much negative pressure inside the headers hence fuel is wasted and irregular revs, have you faced any such?
Okay but 👍👍 mine is sep 2022 model not bothered so far .. as 650 firing normally till today at 6500 kms .. do you think I need to check relays & change to 4 pins !! Anyway personal experience sometimes surpass engineering know how 😃👌👍👍
that is so true and best is to have spares in your arsenal. Incase a relay pops in the future, it is that easy to change it without having to make an appointment and go through that ordeal. :) Thank you for watching the video!
Did you add dielectric grease to the new relays? If so which brand and can you share the link to buy the grease? I'm confused as to which brand is the best and cheapest
hey, given that I have installed Outex kit on my motorcycle, I won't be switching to alloy wheels. I am quite happy with spoked wheels. Adds to the retro charm of the motorcycle. :)
Hello Srinivas, I am recently having an issue with unstable rpm in my INT650 when I ride for a while in traffic which is resulting in engine turning off and requiring constant throttling to keep the engine in on state. Pls do suggest me.
Hello sir, My interceptor has recently returned from service and started idling at around 1k rpm and it suddenly switches off every time i come at a halt and also occasionally misfires and doesn’t rev properly any idea on what it might be??
Hello sir, I own a 2023 Interceptor and I am facing this weird issue of vibrations on 3000 to 4000 rpm. And post 4000 rpm no vibrations. I want to ask if it is the characteristic of the motorcyle or there is a problem in my bike.
It might be due to the motorcycle being new. Once you’ve clocked 1-2000+ kms then it would be fine. Right now I believe it is still in the breaking in phase.
@srinivas ji , my interceptor is 2022 July model , ceat zoom tyres by default, I find the bike woobly at 60 - 100 or more , why is the issue , it's clocked around 8.5 kms and second service is due ....
Changed all 4 and still issue persists 😢 took for 10kms spin and engine heats up and there is no sound of the fuel spark sound during ignition. I guess that's where RE does all sort of cost cutting; cheapest hardware 🙄 extremely disappointed and frustrating being first time RE vehicle owner. I googled and found it a common issue with good percentage of customers. No idea if the RE top hierarchy are even aware.
Please get it checked once at the service center. They will be able to guide you better since I have never faced this issue so I won’t be able to tell you any better.
Hey Bro! How are u. Finally did u find the problem? I'm having the same problem. Sometimes, with good time, the pump doesn't sound and the bike doesn't start. Please share your experiencie or the solution (if this occurred)
