Thanks for watching! If anyone wants to see a part of this car up close, or any DIY jobs on it, let me know in the comments and i will do my best to make it happen!
No worries mate - you must have an early VE HSV that had all red - very hard on the eyes! Maybe see if you can pick up a MY09 VE HSV cluster as they binned the red backlighting to white - so much nicer IMO!! Glad you are enjoying the videos mate - Cheers for the support 🍻!
Hmmm I might have to look into this mate, could be a winner! But might be the same speaker used for my front parking sensor alerts so will see. Cheers for watching and for the hot tip!!
@@MeatballGarage This speaker saved me when my radiator cracked - I got an audible alert about the very high coolant temp - which was just as well because I don't necessarily look at my temperature gauge once a minute... pulled over straight away - V8 is OK!! But now that I know where it is I might wrap some foam around it to make it a bit quieter - thanks Loading User.
@@MeatballGarage hi mate, been driving my VE calais with engineering mode on because i think my alternator is going. The voltage does not increase when accelerating, and is always under 13 volts or just over, if i have the car running, and pull out the positive plug and it shuts down, is that an alternator, thanks?
@@billshinas27 G'day Bill! Righto - I too did this for a while cause i thought the same thing. But these things will only charge to what the battery actually needs. The computer on them can charge the battery anywhere from 12.6 to 16v - depending on the needs and condition of the battery. I did 2 alternators in my Calais about 18 months apart - both times I got the warning on the dash ('check alternator' or something). That is when you know its cooked! If your car cranks fine and there is plenty of voltage at your battery (check it with a multimeter) you should be fine mate! Cheers - Marc
Cheers mate! We have 3 different colour combinations from memory. Green for the lower and mid range, red for the sport models and white for the luxury models. White looks the best in my opinion! Thanks for watching flagcity parts!
Ah nah mate, its the colour of the LEDs behind the dash (which sucks if you hate the colours!!) Ebay might have a kit you can use to change them out. I think you can hack/reprogram the head unit to change it from a Holden, HSV or Chev bow tie start up logo if you want to customise your car a bit further - check that out if it floats your boat!
Cheers Vann - Agree it is a shame that the brand is gone now. But they stuffed up a few things in the last decade it was kind of surprising they lasted as long as they did!
G'day! This happened to me once before - its more the charge state of the battery that will throw this warning. I got it after the car sat for a while then did a few short trips - so the battery was a bit depleted. The voltage measured at the battery was low - but the Alt charge on engineering mode was showing normal. I put a trickle charger on the battery after that and it was fine. If that didn't work I would have chucked in a new battery. How old is the battery in your G8? Do you drive it much? Cheers - Marc
G’day Keanan - i think all 3 window trip computers came with that menu in engineering mode - as TPMS was standard on some HSV models as well as the Caprice that shares the back end of the dash. Im sure the Calais could be retrofitted with the monitors in the wheels, the signal receivers at both ends of the car and the dash programmed though. Cheers!
Hi mate , hey in engineering mode on v8 08 ve I just did an alternator & at idle it's 14 + volts ,the next check says charging & what's that supposed to read ? Mine says 0.0% I haven't driven it since fitting alternator & starting it ,sounds good but I just thought I'd ask outta curiosity & good to learn these things cheers mate.
Hi mate! From what I understand, the charging rate will vary depending on what the battery actually needs. If I didn't drive mine for ages, it would be in the high 14s or even at like 15, then on long trips, or if I had driven it regularly it would dip well into the 13s or sometimes high 12s! I use to watch it like a hawk thinking something was wrong, but I think its just the car only providing the charging level it needs rather than a constant supply. Sounds like yours is ok though!
Hey mate, got a 2008 VE. The dash lights all work but the center digital km/h is always in night mode - so hard to see during day. Can you please help me with this? Regards Andrew.
Obvious question but I need to ask - have you played with the dash board dimmer switch? Or do you have anything covering your dash like a dash mat or box of tissues or something? these can sometimes interfere with the auto lights and dimming of the dash. Have a crack - Cheers!
G'day Samuel - its in my service video for this car - and the bit you are looking for is right here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HllL032VA4Q.html Hope this helps!
Aren't these DVD based systems? You might be able to find a company to get you an updated DVD With new maps on it. Just google VE Sat Nav Map Updates and you should have a few options. Cheers!
@@MeatballGarage i dont know to be honest. My engine light been on for a while now but my mechanic didnt seem too fussed about it. He reckons its only a sensor and that the engine was fine.
I'd still get them replaced - the oxy sensors provide data to the ECU to determine stuff like A/F ratio, timing etc - you might find your car running a bit rough after a while.
Hi Mate - This colour dash was standard in the Holden Calais. You can see the full car in this vid here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kAYhmVjD9Gc.html There were 3 specs of dash in our Aussie Holdens - Green for lower spec, White/Blue for the luxo versions and Red for the sport models. Do you have a G8? You might be able to pull it apart and replace the lights in the dash if you are keen to change them. Cheers!
G'day mate, yep those ranges (on at 104, off at 99) worked on the L98 6L in this Calais. From memory they applied across a number of GM/Holden engines too - my ol 3.8 in a VT was exactly the same! Are yours working all ok? Cheers!
@@MeatballGarage it's at the mechanic as we speak. They used to come on at 98 degrees (L76) and turn off at 95. Now they come on at low speed at the 100 mark but high speed won't kick in at all.
Hey Geof - do you have the handbook for your car? There are detailed diagrams in there on where each fuse is located. If not - I will dig mine out for you 👍
My book says the fuse is located in the passenger footwell kick panel - Fuse F13. It's a 20a fuse - pull it out and see if its blown - let us know what you find mate!
@@MeatballGarage yes thank you, such a amazeing beautiful car, im honored to own and drive a pontiac g8, trully was a dream car, now my new dream isa 2017 chevy ss.
