yknow, while the volcano might make for an excellent reservoir, you do need badwater for certain lategame materials, and just stocking up during badtides isn't really consistent. i'd recommend carving out a little dry area around it and using one of the folktails' unique buildings, the badwater rig. allows pumping badwater for industrial use without unsealing the source

He can build bad water pumps on water sources for bad tides, but it would be amusing to s a column of levies around a Badwater Rig at the bottom of the crater lake.

@@kylethomas9130 he can carve a part of the dirt for draining the badwater when badtide hits. And the levee collum is not necessary when the rig seals the source completely. He can drain the huge reservoir by blow some blocks and seal it with levees again.

You could divert the other side of the bad water to reclaim your first town at the base of Poocano and start more tree farms or something. Maybe even put a cap where the log pumps and showers are to block the bad tide when the time comes. That way it will always be clean water??

That's what's I've done. Turned the old space into a wind farm and farm land for power and food. I've actually blown out a large portion of the slope of the Poocano to create more farmland without having to have all sorts of ladders and paths killing growing spaces. I also have like 98% of the Poocano closed off and dumping naturally off the far corner of the map right about where the scrap metal towers are towards the corner is the small 6 block opening. The poocano is zero problem now and once I get, I'm estimating around a dozen, more bad water pumps working around the clock the Badwater won't even break over the natural lip of the Poocano.

​@@SnyperMK2000JclLi stop the badwater source but still extract it then i build a ceiling to make sure they didnt flood up then using the aquaduct i transfer the water to the poocano so i have a mountain full of fresh water and i build a tunnel below as an irrigation to the river

12:55 large wind mills will spin more often as they have a lower min wind speed, also you want to b-line batteries for when there is no wind, get some metal going

Yeah and now that vertical power shafts are in the vanilla game it’ll be easier to engineer the Tower of Power - a tall structure that makes the most of the gravity batteries by putting them as high as beaverly possible.

If you put water storage set to export (not empty) next to your water pumps the pumpers will move it into the storage next to them and the haulers will bring the water to the more central water storage. I think the haulers are far enough from the pumpers that by the time the pumps are full enough and the hauler makes it over it can't empty. This will send efficiency through the roof with not just this but everything you are hauling

Yeah, this is the way to do it. I usually have medium or large water storage right next to the pumpers, and set them to export to other storage sites. And have smaller storage spread out close to my houses.

For aesthetic stuff, if their area of effect covers a building, every beaver in that building gets the benefits. That benefit also charges us, so you need a long duration of exposure to it to get the benefit to stay. In my experience, the best way to use them is to pile aesthetic objects near the homes and every beaver will get that aesthetic when it goes to sleep.

@@monad_tcp it's more effective if you put it on the houses though because they stay in the buff while they're sleeping rather than some of them running through it for a second. if you consider being less efficient to be engineering then i wouldn't want to hire you as an engineer. no, the true architect move is me decorating my flood gates with the cute tiny rooves even if no beaver will ever walk by it.

This game teaches one of the hidden needs of "green" power (solar/wind). You need to have a way to store the power from when it is made to when it is needed. Get those batteries going!

Yes, the Observatory, which studies the stars, the universe, and everything, only works during the day. When the blazing Sun can blind the Observers and the stars are hidden from sights due to the Sun's overpowering, radiating brilliance.

Id be less concerned about the water and more concerned about the extra workers, knowing Matt would be pausing them, and rotating them around. Which knowing Matt, would lead to whole sections of crops dying off. Maybe this is a good idea. Matt thrives in utter chaos.

so for wellbeing, since beavers "charge" on the aesthetic wellbeing sections depending on how long they're within those spots I usually make sure the wellbeing covers where they sleep as that's where they'll charge up enough for the day. so if you put like a couple roof tiles on the buildings alongside the other aesthetic items, that's going to charge them up while they sleep. @@cathygrandstaff1957 Yeah, it wouldnt work underwater. Though if he does just outright block it up he'd have to rely on badtides for all his badwater. Which replace maybe 1/3 to 1/5 of droughts. He'd need a decent size reservoir to store the badwater if he was relying on badtides. Perhaps not ideal, though there's no right way to do anything. Knowing Matt he'll pick an unconventional route. lol

We're here for the long haul, we dont care about him getting an observatory 30 minutes faster.. we just want to see the game played by someone entertaining that truly enjoys the game

It is very much worth bunching up several big houses into an area so that you can maximize how many houses a decoration is touching. a single 3x3 area decoration (the smallest ones) can touch 4 houses at once easy if all 4 have corners touching and you build on one of those touching corners. It lets you build 4 different decorations each affected all 4 houses, which the beavers then max out as they sleep. It makes it way cheaper and easier to get high wellbeing score, but of course it doesn't look all that pretty. This does also work if you stack houses, since while most decorations only go 1- 3 tiles in any horizontal direction, they go infinite tiles vertically (at least downwards)

Some tips, building platforms over paths allows you to create power lines. In those power lines, you can insert windmills. And at the ends, you can put batteries to store the power and make sure your buildings are working at peak efficiency.

I tried playing Timberborn finally. Had to relocate my town because of flooding then when I did, bad water tides started coming in. 😱 We’re pretty stable now, and I have antidote thank goodness.

Great Video! I love the Timberborners, but I have one question, at 6:40 it's Cycle 8 Day 10 and he has 458 Research and at 6:47 he has the Observatory unlocked, which costs 1000 Research, but it's still Cycle 8 Day 10. This isn't meant to be hatefull, it's just something I noticed.

For Folktails and power, I think they're better at it than the Iron Teeth are. The irregularity of wind power can be mitigated by the Mechanical Batteries. Once you've got those set up, Windmills are just free power that can be built anywhere.

It's worth getting the bad water rig instead of bad water come as you are able to seal the source as well as harvest bad water which is important for things like explosives. Annoyingly the bad water rig can flood but I think it still seals the source even if it is flooding its just that you cant harvest badwater from it untill you dry the volcano out.

about windmills, you usually want them to be placed in nice grid on some flat surface with nothing but other windimills and powershafts around, then connect them via powershaft to main grid to get factories running (also worth getting batteries so that even if there will be no wind you can still work)

You should use a badwater rig to seal the badwater hole and still be able to collect badwater. If you still want to build a reservoir in the volcano you could make a tunnel structure over the rig to keep it sealed

Put 1x1 aesthetics on a 1 high platform on the path and make sure it touches another building so anyone working or using it passively gets the bonus as well. Walking across a single tile won't do crap for the well being the aesthetic provides.

So, to help out with LOGISTICS, it is often wise to have a small bin or tank near a place that uses the resource, and setting the bin/tank to either "acquire" or "supply". In the case of, say, your lumber mill, you would have two small storage yards with one set to "acquire" logs and the other "supply" planks. The beaver in the mill will take from the log bin next to them first, and likewise deposit planks. HOWEVER, your haulers will do the opposite provided you have other storage elsewhere that is empty, even if it isn't marked to do anything special. The haulers will keep loading up the "acquire" logs bin and emptying the "supply" planks bin. With a small amount of haulers this takes time to sort out, but when you have a couple hundred beavers this works famously.

Hey, Matt, it's probably worth it to go for vertical gear shafts so you can move the path in front of the wind-industry section over a bit, place platforms and shafts, and connect the two industrial parks for better use of the power since buildings cap at a specific amount and anything that isn't used in even the tiniest of production is just completely lost without batteries. You could probably pump out a whole new generation of beavers to employ eternally at workshops, grinding away at whatever percentage extra the wind and water supply, just to provide a consistent stream of products. Also, your water wheel is adjacent to a non-solid block from the past, you can probably gain power by converting it to a levee

Probably. He’s making a RU-vid series more than just playing the game himself, makes sense to skip ahead to the highlights so to speak rather than have an episode of waiting for science to built up.

@@MysteriousStranger50 problem is why stop there? if you can get 1000 science why not get 1000 logs too? to speed the "series" and build more dams. Why not get 1000 water so your beavers can work on constructing the dam faster? so on and so forth Why play a difficult map if you can't handle the difficulty? or if you are not willing to play it without cheating at least Also it is dirty to do that without saying it, he could have admitted he wasn't going to wait for 1000 science and would instead magically get it. Would still be cheating, but at least you are not pretending to play the game.

To ensure a pumper keeps pumping all day long you could put a storage immediately outside their doorway. Then have that storage set to supply and prioritized also, so if your beaver has to empty his full inventory he does so almost immediately and is right back to work. Then your haulers have even more time to do their job, and you have less opportunities for stalls.

With the new (experimental) aquaduct update you can also make 'secret' under water tunnels or hideouts. In the 7 craters one, I've build a waterproof roof over a bad water extractor and let the normal water fill the lake again.

When the "Megaduct" is built, if it is built only as wide as a power wheel, it can be lined with power wheels and power can be transferred to the industrial area. This should "revolutionize power", as you put it.

I like to put the Hauling Post on lowest priority and then open up all slots. This way any beaver without a job becomes a hauler without impeding other buildings.

Wind power can be finnicky, gravity batteries help a lot. On the ledge of the giga-aqueduct could be a perfect place for some really high-up gravity batteries.

Yeah, unlocking the observatory is the game-changer for Folktails. Things should move faster now. Longer term, you’ll want a builder workforce of 100% bots so they can safely get in and out of the poocano to build the bad water rig.

Two changes I'd love to see them make to the game: be able to set Haulers to not haul unless they can load up enough of their pack to make the journey worth it, and maybe 40-60% less dead wind time. You should build a small water tank right next to your water pumpers so even if there are no haulers, the pumpers don't have far to go. At least one.

I see that you noticed the log pumpers carrying their own water to the storage, if you build closer storage(set to supply) they won't have to walk as far when the haulers aren't always available.

Make a city skylines video to test the stack interchange which starts with 4 lanes and then splits every time a diverge occurs and doubles every time traffic joins. It usually connects 2 motorways that overlap and there are 3 in the UK!

The it Windmills can harness "slow wind" so they produce power most of the time. But they can also stand still or only produce 25% Power. Windmill+Battery Storage is the perfect combination

They need a Cities-Skylines-Style wind map that will allow you to choose more ideal placement for windmills. A gradient map where the darker colour denotes a higher % of time where wind blows.

You need to use gravity battery’s and wind farms to get the full effect out of the windmills put the battery’s on tall platform to increase their stored power and have enough to use when the wind isn’t going it’s surprising efficient

How many years have you played this game? It's mind-blowing! Build some small tanks next to your pumpers and set them to supply, tell your haulers to prioritize the tanks. The Beavles need a song about facepalm's, I can barely watch.

I would personally put a bad water rig on the bumhole instead of a cap, so you’re getting bad water for making stuff end game. You can levee around it with stairs for some under water drilling.

Look into the giant windmills. The power output is better but they catch wind a lot sooner so there more reliable

Last night I built an aqueduct to fill the poocano with normal water (took forever), then capped the bad water not remembering that a flooded building can't work, so had to drain the darn thing and build walls around the bad water source to keep it dry. Would have been so much faster to build walls around the bad water source and just direct the bad water out the side of the map instead.

@RealCivilEngeneerGaming Matt in the future use the bedwater rig since it blocks badwater source and also makes you able to exctract the badwater directly from the source. Therefore you dont loose bad water even if you block it plus it can be uderwater as well.

when the observatory started working i thought RCE was goin to start singing Moon man from rick and morty. Also 9 season you would know by now that you dont prioritice the water pump, but make one tank next to the pump and set that tank to be prioritece by hauler and set to supply other tanks

If you want another new source of food fast, you could plant sunflowers. They require no processing and can be eaten as is.

You should put 1 or 2 small tanks right next to you water pumpers and set it to supply. That way, if the haulers don't get round to them, the beavers only have to walk a short distance to offload and the haulers will empty the small tank too.
