It was still fun to watch :) It could be interesting to put the plugin and the amp (with same ir or real cab) head-to-head to see the real difference between real/plugin? I'd be really curious
Brainworx and UAD "versions" are the same. Developers aren't bound to UAD exclusivity anymore, since Softube has also released the Marshall plugins for all platforms.
I think I’m going to try this with my Diezel Herbert preamp pedal with my cab mic’d with an SM-57 setup, and compare it to the Plugin Alliance Diezel Herbert plug-in. I downloaded it yesterday, and messed with it all evening, found a VERY similar-sounding cab IR, tweaked everything, and it’s DAMN close to what the real thing sounds like when I record my real tube setup mic’d up with my SM57... I’m really impressed with their plug-in quality, even though after sifting through the Engl Savage 120 cab IR selection dozens of times it left a lot to be desired, IMO, but I finally found one that is acceptable and got the amp dialed-in ok. I definitely need some studio monitors and an interface. Thinking about the Audient EVO 4.
@Perpetual Havoc The amp sims probably are, but the cab IR's kind of suck... Maybe it's just my speakers. My new Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones will be here later in the week, so I'll find out then whether or not it's my speakers or the cab sims in general.
I got the real one... Been looking for ages for a perfect metalsound. The ENGL Savage 120 was my gift from the (metal) gods. Now been using it for like 15 years or so. It's a beast!!!!!
I own this and the Deisel VH4, UAD versions. They alright, my problem is I got an Engl Invader 2 sitting next to me, and ya know what? I think you know the answer! I really do like the Savage 120 plugin though, it dose sound good. It just takes some time to dial it in, love the IR swapping thing that was a brilliant idea.
I’m debating on what to amp head too buy, I’m looking for something with crazy gain, super tight punchy lows, a lot of note clarity. I’m looking at the Engl savage 120 mkII but I’m not sure if that’s the amp I want. How does it compare the the invader
Michael Lazzell if you get a chance to play through one, look into the Diezel heads. They fit the description of that you are looking for. The Blackstar Series One heads (S1-100, S104) are also very beastly. I have an S1-100 with EL34B tubes and it’s very heavy.
Just sprung for the Plugin Alliance all bundle, (after the waves subscription fiasco, so good to this one and the Diezel demonstrated. Thanks. (Kim from Anubis Gate)
Another thing about those IRs, some of them are full signal chains mics, EQ, console, etc. not just the cab. The info but out to the right shows what’s in each one. And he made it towards the end of the video... thanks ola 😂
When I was messing around with it today, I found that to be a really nice and helpful feature when sifting through all the cab IR’s with a recording going on in the background to find what sound I liked best.
@@dannys.902 I have a clone of Gary's Langner Marshall. It's a monster. The Savage is darker, more saturated, and meaner than the Marshall. But the Marshall is no slouch in the rhythm or lead department.
@@joshuacole6543 that's incredible! I have one of his DCP-1 preamps with the Hyper Dist Mod, but still I'd love to have a modded Marshall by him, even a clone like yours would be kickass!
This has been on UAD for years. I thought Brainworx released all of these as AU/VSTs first. Very surprising that this just came out recently especially since there’s already a savage 120 II amp.
My dream amp... A late 70's Marshall JMP, that has the guts of channel 3 of the Savage or Invader 100. That said, I had a Blackmore and e530 preamp, and both were pretty killer. This is probably the best metal plugin I've heard...damn.
What I think would be cool to see and hear in the future is that if you are doing a demo of an amp plugin, if you own the real thing then it would be nice to hear how the plugin compares to the real deal
Brainworx amp sims are really really good value, especially for the cost in PC resources (or lack thereof). But honestly, Neural DSP is where it's at for sims right now, hands down. And that's coming from someone with the MEGA bundle.
It doesn't compare to this one, but a free one that I love (especially for drop tuned guitars) is the endl fireball from Vadim Taranov. Obviously, it emulates an engl fireball. Note: it doesn't look too pretty, but it sounds really good when dialed in.
Tempo is so chock full of tasty riffs, but he used the Peavey XXX on Tempo and SHKM. I think he used the Savage on Atrocity Exhibition and Human Condition. Not sure about the Blood In, but around that time he discovered the Kemper and record his Slayer tracks with that.
Wow, didn't know about these features, and your video on this plugin, I love it more now! Great that they have discounts on this sometimes $40, and with Voucher they usually give only for $20.
Got the musician bundle sunday for one year and Yesterday I find out this video: f***k yes, connect to my PA account and found It ready for the download, installation and activation. I've got also most of Neural DSP stuff and now Brainworx too. This shit sound pretty sick on his own with some tweaks and external hardware (my pedal rig. A couple of pedala bit that makes HUGE differences). Now i will see how all this "shit" will fit in a mix...the so called trial of fire for a musician ! 😂
Awesome video and tones Ola but would be nice to see a comparison with the real amp and since you own one, could we expect something like that in the future? Cheers
Hello Ola, I have 2 important questions, Hope you see and post it on another FAQ videos. 1) Ive heard / know you use Blacksmtih Strings for all you Solar Guitars. Can you talk more about Blacksmith Strings and why you choose them? 2) When will the Solar Bass be available? 2021? . Thank you Ola for your time. Cheers from Malaysia.
I think the awesome settings i hear from you can be too mighty in a mix - so i guess you always have to test if the used setting fits into the whole mix.
@@insertanynameyouwant5311 I use most of the time my personal favorite IRs that I use with other plugins too. But I remember there being a couple internal ones that were really good too (i dont remember exactly which ones, maybe the ENGL ones)
contour works the wrong way around on this plugin. it's a mid boost on the real amp. weird little mistake, but i really like the setup of this plugin, and it does sound great.
Hey Ola, have you heard about Plugin Alliance's DearVR Monitors which gives you a 3D sound environment for mixing with headphones. I'd like to hear what you think. Hope you can review it for us bedroom recording musicians.
I love the sound of that P. It's really tight, clean and all-round awesome. Is their anyway that you can make a patch of that heavy sound for the katana MK2 50?
Hi Ola, Love this particular video. I like pretty interfaces too (when you switch to fx side no more shiny tubes, front side of amp), but hey as long as it sounds good right?
