Love the analysis. Agree about Greenwood, was a little shocked not to see her in the starting line up. The biggest issue the Lionesses are facing is in the midfield. Top teams have figured out how to neutralize Walsh who has been the key to England's build up through the midfield. Sarina has yet to find an effective tactical responses to this. I thought Bronze and Walsh's performance tonight were actually incredible - being able to keep mental focus off the back of an insane season and CL final is beyond impressive. Really hoping the team is more fluid on Tuesday!

Definitely a disappointing match and seemed a lot more like a friendly than two world class teams going head to head to qualify for a euros. A real lack of energy and very cagey on the ball with no real rhythm from either side. You can definitely tell the players are exhausted, not only those playing from the WCL, but also the turnaround from the end of the WSL season and the FA cup final. The FA really needs to have a look at giving players more time off with injuries being more prone, the 1-2 days off for the menstrual cycle is a good step but no doubt more needs to be done looking at how many players have had to pull out of the squad for England. England did not look like a euro winning team defending their title, but at the same time, France definitely didn’t look like a 3rd rated team in the world by FIFA either. I feel like England needs to rethink their starting 11, Alex greenwood should definitely have started in my opinion, and I feel like grace Clinton, even though inexperienced, she has shown how much energy she brings to that midfield whereas Ella to one looks absolutely exhausted. I don’t feel like Beth mead should’ve come off either considering how well she was doing, Alessia was doing good but not up to standards especially after being in Australia, and I feel like Sarina was waiting for a goal from her when it just wasn’t coming. Hemp was absolutely unreal and I feel like sarina shouldn’t have waited so long before bringing on Chloe Kelly so we can see their link up like they do at City. Eng vs Fr was a bit weird, some players did play well: Russo and Hemp particularly were excellent, and Hampton did well. But Bright had a shocker, looked really rusty, and agree a lot of the others (including French players) looked a bit burnt out. It's like you've just finished a really hard job and then you have to get up immediately for another really tough one, which you can easily lose (and they did). Agree with hindsight Greenwood should maybe have played BUT do you want Cascarino burning past her one on one? Could have been humiliating. Sarina picked Carter because she's quick enough to keep up with her and I can't really argue with that. Thought the atmosphere at St. James' Park was really good, although they didn't give them that much to cheer about. I don't know how women play when they've got their period - some of the ones I know are pretty much out of action for a week and they are not professional sportswomen! When I got into women's football I assumed they already had a couple of days off for that, and was really surprised to learn that they didn't.

Greenwood 100% should have started over Millie Bright, I know she’s been out all season and people have missed her but she’s not fit. I agree that both teams looked knackered tonight however was a really good atmosphere inside St James’ tonight!

I’d consider going more defensive against the better sides, a version of 3/5 at the back, 2 sitting with pace as the outlet. At least for the proportion of the game where swinging it out may lead to dead ball situ’s/ conceding 2nd phase.

The first half seemed ok but as soon as we conceded its like the wheels fell off and we got sloppy and tired. Left it far too late to make changes too imo. We'll see how the second leg goes. As for the changes in pay I think its great! Theyre also bringing in 8 weeks paid leave for female players whose partners are giving birth- a win for the lesbians!!

100% agree with Alex Greenwood, Millie Bright has barely played any minutes since coming back from injury and it looked like it. She was alright defensively to be fair, but on the ball she looked pretty dire.

Shebahn 😊 Agreed in part! France outperformed England and deserved the win! Millie Bright looked lost as did Williamson - you can tell they are both rusty. Greenwood was sorely missed. Earps will now naturally be replaced by Hannah who deserves a run as England no.1 as she is going from strength to strength at Chelsea - my only gripe is the keepers should always hit long rather than short at the back - this style clearly puts unnecessary pressure on the back four which was clear in the game and also caused Earps injury. Mead took her goal well and deserves the applause but I still see Alessia as the permanent no 9 as she is growing which is testament to arsenal who are eventually now playing her in her correct role as an out an out striker. p. s - No need to worry about how you presented yourself - gorgeous as ever!! 😊 Enjoy the weekend!

I think Jess Carter is such an upgrade defensively over Greenwood. I think Williamson has way too many upsides over Greenwood. No disrespect, but I don't see her fitting in against a team like France over any of the starting back line.

Hello Shebahn. France look like a team building to win the Olympics. England seem to be a team picked as the ones who won the last trophy to put fans' bums on seats, touring round the country. I replied to someone elsewhere that I reckoned Emma Hayes would have been better getting the England job and Sarina Wiegman had started reminding me of Alf Ramsey post 1966 and the team needed to start using players on form rather than loyalty. The fact that England did not qualify for the Olympics as Team GB and France did on merit, not just as hosts, seemed to show. England going backwards like US did?

I get that sometimes it’s better to pick defenders based on already-established partnerships over picking individuals in the best form, but today it showed that maybe we won’t get the same Williamson/Bright pairing back to their 2022 level. Bright hasn’t looked fully fit for Chelsea since coming back from injury (and she’s probably been over-played too), meanwhile Greenwood is fit, in form and offers the benefit of actually having a left-footed defender. Questions need to be asked if she doesn’t start on Tuesday. Also we can’t forget Niamh Charles and Lotte Wubben-Moy - they’ve both been brilliant this season and, if they were fit right now, should’ve been in with a shout of being in the starting XI. All of that said…the midfield was even worse 😂
