England's greatest ever try

England score possibly their greatest ever try during the 6 Nations match against Ireland at Twickenham in February 2002.
Straight from a restart, England spread the ball wide from their own 22. Kyran Bracken passes to Jonny Wilkinson, who passes to Will Greenwood, who passes to Jason Robinson, who pops up to Austin Healey who goes clear on the left wing, he then passes back inside to Bracken, who passes to Mike Tindall, who doesn't have the pace and pops the ball up to Richard Hill, who gives it to Joe Worsley, who offloads to Ben Cohen who beats the tackle of Eric Miller to finish an immense 9 pass team try.

Not English but loved that team up to and including the 2003 world cup win. Recently watched highlights of their pre world cup wins over southern hemisphere sides and it was a phenomenal side, without any weaknesses. We rightly laud Johnson, Hill, Dallaglio, Wilkinson, Robinson etc but we tend to forget how good Ben Cohen was in the build up to the world cup. The tries he scored against the big guns were outstanding. Just a shame that his career sort of fizzled out after the world cup win. But hey, he's still a world cup winner!!

This was a wonderful try from a wonderful England team one of the things that gets overlooked about that team is the aerobic fitness of the players the willingness to play at pace and the fact that basically every member of the team could pass the ball accurately, that has been lacking In most English teams since. England played with less ambition at the world cup and not to the standard that they had hit in the preceding couple of years but fortunately it was still good enough to become World Champions.

I'm not normally associated with congratulating the English on anything, but that "wasn't half bad" as my old Headmaster, Major J S S Bury, used to say. It's also amusing to observe the left winger, Ben Cohen, "on hand" to finish the move - and happy to take the credit, when in actual fact almost everyone else in the white shirt had heroically contributed to the amazing score, but all Cohen had done was to stagger over the whitewash remembering the keep hold of the ball. As a left wing myself, I know the feeling only too well...

A player who is 'on the ground' is the not the same as a player who is 'tackled' or 'held'. Tindall was 'on the ground' because he was brought down by an Irish tackler. However he was not held therefore he not 'tackled'. Watch when the pass by Tindall is made. The Irish player isn't holding him and he is on his feet. A player 'on the ground' who has the ball can do a few things: - Get up while still holding the ball OR - Pass or hand the ball to another player, preferably in your team. (and get up) OR - Let go of the ball (release it) (and move away from it/get up)
