Man, I dont know, i think if you was using that curved edge pointing away from you on a larger piece of leather you would actually skive, I think the curved edge would be helpful. I need one to try it out on a larger piece of leather. Looks like a winner to me from this angle. I have not got the Other one in yet, It was ordered and I think it should be here tuesday, I will be doing some more how to leather videos on our channel and will link back to you when I do the skiving since you passed the info along on the other one. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the free knife sir. i did send him a message, I think I would love to give this one a try, I think it may well work for our little shop. Thanks again for taking the time to share, appreciate you sir. The thinner blade being more flexible makes sense to me and how it could potentially be a winner for our little leather working shop, not sure but going to give it a try. I have a skiver with a curved corner, and i love it more than my Japanese skiver. It was a learning curve with keeping it straight and in control, but once I got it down, it makes gliding the blade sideways on skives so much easier. I'm not sure how to put it in words, but when skiving horizontally starting on the left and moving to the right, the curve prevents the blade from snagging/ catching on the leather and messing up my cut. Though it is much wider, around 3.5cm wide.

@@MichaelMaysLeatherworks chartermade also had a blade with a similar curved corner style, check out his video on it if you're interested. But like you said, a wider blade feels much more comfortable

Why are you skiving on a cutting mat instead of granite, glass, ceramic?

My granite had another project on it that could not be moved and since I was just demonstrating the technique of these carving knife what it’s on makes little difference . I have skived entire projects on mine and I’ve never once had an issue with it.
