I think this is one good example where English dubbing will help, because the editing is so rapidly paced at times that you miss what’s happening on screen.
for some reason, Zoffy's voice reminded me of RIP Alec Guinness, but I feel that really suits the character since he's superior and older than Urotoraman. the dub sounds good overall.
I wanted to see this movie in the dubbed version on the big screen, but my buddy wasn't going to be available on Thursday. So, we decided to see the English subbed version on Wednesday. It was a compromise I couldn't refuse. We went and saw it; I read what I can on the dialogue, and I enjoyed what I saw. However, I'm glad that you showed me these clips. It even makes me happy that the dub will be included on the upcoming DVD or Blu-ray. I can't wait to watch it again.
Not bad! I saw the subbed version online (thanks to a tip from a certain YT channel!) and wanted to see either version on the big screen when they came to Toronto. Unfortunately, I had scheduling conflicts.
I hear the film is going straight to Blu-ray; I feel that's unfortunate because there still are many fans of the original series whom would love to see this great film on the silver screen.
Makes me wonder when Amazon is gonna get this. I would get the bluray but so many people said that it was done horribly on there. I went to go see the English version in theaters and Amazon still doesn't have a digital version available?!
Compared to other dubs in the 1960s, the original Ultraman I felt was a better-than-average dub. A lot the voice actors AND the ADR director from Speed Racer worked on the English dub of the original Ultraman! It's a shame the English dub wasn't put on the Blu ray release of the complete Ultraman TV series. Instead, you have to buy the dub on TWO different Blu rays and only half the Ultraman English dub has been released in hi-def!!! Shin Ultraman is middle-of-the-road for today. As bad as most anime dubs STILL are, they're better on average than live-action dubs. I like Cutie Honey (2004, live-action) as I did Shin Ultraman but Cutie Honey/2004 had a TERRIBLE dub! Live-action dubs of Japanese movies and TV shows still generally miscast voices or treat the ADR as a complete joke. I truly believe we're better off 85% of the time watching movies in ORIGINAL LANGUAGE with subs. Most localizations/dubs do NOT get the money to hire better VA's most of the time AND ADR directors still treat these jobs as jokes! The stuff from the 1960s that still works today? Those dubs were NOT treated as jokes to begin with!!! Those surviving dubs that are at least decent were done professionally.
@@AvengerII The 1966 ULTRAMAN is the only Ultra series where the English dub is important to me. It is OBSCENE that the new, "remastered" Blu-Rays DO NOT have the English dub by Peter Fernandez' team of voice actors. While the quality is a bit dodgy in places, and some scenes are missing the dub (so it switches back and forth between English & Japanese), I'm glad I got the early-2000s DVDs. At least it's (mostly) the show I grew up loving from 1967-up. I saw SHIN ULTRAMAN in a theatre in Japanese with English subtitles-- ONLY time in my life I ever did such a thing. I enjoyed the film on its own merits. I'd say I liked it 100 times more than MAN OF STEEL (with which it shares a lot of style). But it's not ONE-TENTH as entertaining as the original TV series. I may go after the Blu-Ray of the movie some day... but I'm in no hurry.
English dubs are underrated, dub actors are underrated, and this results in lackluster work for lackluster pay. Sub supremacists fail to provide any logical reason for preferring subs. So, when they get illogical, I get illogical back to mock them saying things like "Just read the manga then lol" and they have the gall to suggest they don't have the time. Dude, if you can read fast enough to read the subtitles on the screen, YOU CAN READ A MANGA A LOT FASTER!
When it comes to foreign dramas, I definitely want to see it and it’s original acted language. However, when it comes to anime or special effect porn films. This is where the devil comes in handy. That way you can pay attention to the details. Thankfully, dubbing has gotten a lot better. I feel like for a lot of live-action Godzilla films in the 90s. It was pretty rough.
"From what I heard Japanese with subtitles screenings were filled." And why do you think that is?!? Because people who have seen enough dubbed live-action films realize the dubs are treated as jokes! They match voices to the original actors POORLY and the performances in English are mostly laughable! So many times, they'll hire middle-aged, 50ish guys to voice Japanese characters who look under 30. It's ridiculous and it's spoiled a lot of movies for me. There is believability that gets shattered when the voice does NOT match the character onscreen! Shin Ultraman's dub was middle of the road at best. I still think some of the voices were not cast that well and the ADR performances were wooden a lot of the time. The track record of live-action redubs is worse than most anime.... and I say this as someone that thinks most anime English dubs aren't that great. I liked Shin Ultraman, I really did, BUT the English dub is the weakest link of the movie. It's better in the original Japanese with subs.

AAAAH! I completely forgot about 1:46 but man that freaked me out so much when I saw it, and it bugs me again now. Isn't that breaking the 180 rule or something? Even if it technically isn't it still weirds me out. The cinematography of this movie is fantastic but that one moment right there just makes my skin crawl.
I think this was deliberate on the filmmakers' part. Asami might be interested in working with Kaminaga, but she's also interested in getting information on Ultraman. Kaminaga, currently a being in between, isn't intent on divulging this information to Asami. Yet. Hence the breaking of the 180 rule.
Agreed, I prefer now to watch live-action foreign films/shows in their native language for get that authenticity. You can get away with dubs for animations
I can kinda understand watching this film dubbed because of how dialogue heavy it is so it’d be a pain to look down at the subtitles and look at the visuals simultaneously
