Where do you buy your arrows from? Got a Bickerstaffe of my own and I'm looking to upgrade from my cheap arrows that I bought ages ago!
@LongbowMedia
@LongbowMedia 3 года назад
My first arrows for the Bickerstaffe were cedar wood from an Ebay seller, years back. They were fun and fast to shoot, but due to the soft nature of the wood, didn't last when missing the target and hitting something like a tree stump, lol. Now-a-days, I make my own arrows. I usually stick to Douglas-Fir for the Bickerstaffe due to it being a nice compromise between weight and durability. You can buy many of the components from 3 Rivers Archery of Fairbow

I don't know if you've found one yet, but his bracer is similar to the one I have and it was got here - www.amazon.co.uk/longbowmaker-Archery-Adjustable-Leather-Antique/dp/B07J4VRQXD/ref=pd_sbs_200_4/258-6539508-4952101?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07J4VRQXD&pd_rd_r=3eadc5d0-5dff-11e9-a139-9786f838d760&pd_rd_w=UhHlx&pd_rd_wg=8M759&pf_rd_p=18edf98b-139a-41ee-bb40-d725dd59d1d3&pf_rd_r=VXQFJV8GWXYD2WWY13F8&psc=1&refRID=VXQFJV8GWXYD2WWY13F8

wow, isn't it hard to shoot such heavy bows with fixed position?
@davidharrison6615
@davidharrison6615 5 лет назад
@@user-vd5ln7du2f not really, I just built it up using different types of bows over a period of time. Not up to the war bow draw yet but getting there. Like everything it takes time.

Nice shooting. Note. War bows are at least 100 pound draw weight. Good luck.

55# @28. is it true warbow? @0:25
@LongbowMedia
@LongbowMedia 3 года назад
The 55# bow is made in the victorian target style. The 82# bow is made in the style of those found on the Mary Rose, which is Italian, Self-Yew and bends, "full compass."

On warbow, what arrow length do you use for a 28" draw length?
@clearmelody6252
@clearmelody6252 3 года назад
It appears he is doing a full English war draw, which is to, roughly, 30", not 28". Basically, to the ear, not the corner of the mouth.
@Vorador47
@Vorador47 3 года назад
@@clearmelody6252 well consider max DL on that bow was 29" i doubt he was doing 30", and it was only a 55# bow, so not a warbow.
@mikegrossberg8624
@mikegrossberg8624 3 года назад
You use an arrow that, from the bottom of the nock to the base of the pile, measures 28"
@LongbowMedia
@LongbowMedia 3 года назад
I use a 32" arrow for the warbow.
@mikegrossberg8624
@mikegrossberg8624 3 года назад
@@LongbowMedia My NORMAL draw length is 30"(long arms) Of course, my longbow is rated at only 40lbs at that draw length. A shoulder injury makes it impossible for me to pull a stronger bow
@prabirchoudhury8375
@prabirchoudhury8375 3 года назад
If arrows were longer, it would allow the archer to draw even farther(very hard, but theoretically speaking). Arrows used in war those times, 32" to 38" to use with longbows
@LongbowMedia
@LongbowMedia 3 года назад
Correct. I use a 28" for the Bickerstaffe (Victorian style target longbow) and 32" for the Poletti (Mary Rose style warbow)
@la_old_salt2241
@la_old_salt2241 Год назад
Also, as an arrow breaks, if the point is where it broke, it can be cut down and re-tipped.
