Finally someone has the courage to speak up. I completely agree with you Ava the delivery on those lines feels so weak. Some are passable but most doesn't have that energy and enthusiasm that JP and CN VAs has. But all I've seen on internet is the praise for this english voice acting. To the point I've been thinking it must be just a me thing.
The difference between En VA and Jp is that En tries really hard to become the character while Jp VA are the characters themselves, I might have said this before but that's just what I think
The problem with the localization voices is only CN voices are made in-house, allowing VA understand what dev want with the voices. It quite obvious even some Japanese voices aren't that good in this game due to lack of communication with dev. Only games like you know what can afford VA directors. With the money they make it kinda surprises me that pgr has EN dub at all.
My problem is there are inconsistencies in their volume. It's noticeable when they do loud voices or scream, the volume turns lower than what they sound like when talking normally. But it's probably the recording problem with automatic tuning or stuffs.
I have problems when listening to Lucia Plume on EN Dub; but not when I hear her speak to Alpha on EN Dub. I don't know if it's my ears, but I feel that the role with Alpha came out more natural... I don't know if someone else has the same problem. xD
I agree with the "they're just reading the lines instead of voice acting". For me, only 21, Lee, Wanshi, Roland, Changyu, Nanami, are the ones that are good enough, but can still be improved.
Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed the english voice acting for eastern media in general is... Underwhelming to say at least. Compare voice acting in western games (last 2 Deus Ex installments, Cyperpunk 2077), and then eastern games voiced into english (not only gachas, but for example NieR: Automata, english 9S sucked imo). The difference is night and day, almost like the overall stance is "eastern media, who gives a shit?", while the care for voice acting in western games is noticable. Also about the comment in chat "Kuro is indie company" : Haruka Tomatsu, Jun Fukuyama, Rie Kugimiya, Yui Ishikawa and I think I've heard Shizuka Itou in JP as well. These are really big names so I doubt it's the problem regarding VA budget.
to be more specific, only westerner who has no problem with EN dub. i suspect its EOP thing. westerners are so wierd. they think sick throat dub voice are ssexy lmaooo
Nah dw there's a lot of people who don't have a very important concern about GOOD voice acting, thing that JP Va's can do perfectly. People who legit likes EN over any other language are just not very contructive about it or just ignore what good voice acting is
can i say i switched to english voices bcs i heard the japanese voice for 2 years is a a valid reason? i don't really mind the en voices as long its close to what i expected (except chrome bcs well...)
@@NaotoKURO I actually think, english is superior, there is a big difference between acting and overacting. In anime/ some specific media, people are encouraged to overact. Eg .Nanami can be as a classical Puck character, who is there to be extra energetic overacted. but I very much like that eg. Karenina doesnt overact and sounds quite mature and natural.
