This is not a skit for foreigners. A lot of word play, improvisation and transformation of the Polish language, which cannot be translated at all, because the words they invented do not exist in the Polish language. The whole story is coherent, but due to the above word games it will not be understandable to foreigners even after translation. All the more so because there are threads typical of Poland woven into it. A foreigner has no chance of understanding them.

Neonowki żarty są specyficzne, absurdalne, oparte na przekształcaniu polskich słów i gramatyki, odwołują się do znanych tylko Polakom kolokwializmów i pojęć.

That's the thing with Neo Nówka, it's chaos. Ridiculousness and chaos. That, and they focus on the way of delivery more than the actual story. Not to mention they do a lot of world plays and word creation (as in, creating non-existing words) that is understandable to a Pole, but absolutely nonsensical for a foreigner. And that's why people were laughing their asses off, because of how more and more ridiculous and off-topic the story has derailed.

Many of polish cabaretes are absurd, it's not about the story but about the absurdity of a situation. It comes form the time of WWII and even later under USSR. Polish people had no freedom of speech but people still needed to went somehow. So humor became very chaotic, absurd. Many times in those absurd jokes a very painful things were hidden. Many of those traumas were processed through a humoristic songs. Please watch a movie called "Zakazane Piosenki" you may get the gist then

If I remember correctly, it's an encore skit, so they played it freely. Neo-Nówka is a very specific cabaret, in a positive sense. Their style is based on speaking and behaving like someone from the countryside, they like to transform words to sound rural. That's why the audience often laughs. They also often act out scenes of small-town people and situations from daily life. Many words are difficult to translate and they also enjoy quoting songs, literature, movies and often discuss political topics - recently they performed a powerful skit "Wigilia". In my opinion, this is one of the best cabarets currently in Poland.

In this performance, it's not about the story as much as about playing with the words. Many Polish words have a different meaning depending on the context, and it's not translatable to English. The word game is what is funny the most in this performance.

in several Polish cabarets the so-called improvisation is used. unplanned texts thrown somewhere in the gaps of the skit. it is usually intended to cause a so-called blunder, to make friends in the cabaret laugh. it's free and great fun for us viewers. Besides polish language and sound of some words are used to create something chaotic and funny in same time. Greets

I'm not a fan of this one to be fair, I consider Neo Nówka to be one of the best modern polish cabarets, but this one is just too much mess to be funny. Funnily enough, this is a new version of an old skit of theirs. The other one is from the same show as Niebo, and the marijuana joke marks the very beginning of the skit. In my opinion it's much better, has no word salad, no mumbling and is just genuinely funny.

What was more funny to me was hearing your comments about how they should stick with the final part as I really loved the first part of the sketch, and when they switched to the marijuana bit it became pretty boring and unfunny to me. But yeah, it had some wordplay, references to Polish popculture, some grammar fun and a healthy dose of chaos. Fawlty Towers is awesome too btw. Tho Monty Python's the best (obviously).

This is a meeting of two worlds - a not-so-smart churchman and a priest who has to pretend to be more intelligent than he actually is. They complement the absurdity with rare grammatical forms, archaisms and non-existent forms (the Polish language is very flexible). as others have already mentioned - extremely difficult for a foreigner.

First of all: they were talking around the subject the whole time; sometimes jumping subject but not that much. Second of all: It was, more or less, pre-planned "chaos" with some anchor points. As in, ad lib with preplanned ending. At least, that is my understanding to this type of comedy.

It was not so absurd and not based only on inflectional linguistic complexities. If I may suggest something to you, I suggest watching a few of Ireneusz Krosny skits. He's a mime, but very funny. Whole "problem" is that most of that jokes are cultural-oriented or language-oriented and it can't be translated to English keeping the original sense of the joke. There's an American guy living in Częstochowa for several years now and even he doesn't get it fully even though he speaks pretty fluent Polish by now. Of course I'm not saying you shouldn't try - nor that's impossible for you to understand that. I'm just saying it's tough and don't feel bad if you don't get it. You would have to live here half of your life to fully understand all those jokes. This American guy I mentioned has a channel called "Love my Poland" - you can check it out if you like.

Translation is not good enough. *It is very raw.* All this skit is about words play. In English you can also do it but you need to know Polish and English fluently. *For instance:* In GB you can call a priest as *reverend* Smith. Here, *the verger distorts everything* so translation could be eg: *revenant* Smith - and this would reflect the spirit of this conversation.
