Wishing you a Happy Mothers Day, Linda. Prices are very high right now on so many things, from groceries to building projects. If you wait until next year you may find that your cost will be lower. Be patient. Keep tweaking the plans and when you are ready you may find that it will be a more enjoyable project for less than the current estimate.

Linda, this whole vlog was so nice! I was a doubter about your move to Sugarwood. Your Groton home and your renovation of that stunning kitchen(the MOST gorgeous kitchen I've ever seen) made me scratch my head. But your land/gardens is beyond stunning. Honestly, i never get tired of seeing your place move through the seasons; it's always fresh and fun. I love winter and with all of your trees, and that field across from your home is just stunning! But fall and spring are also favorites, and you showcase them so well. Thank you for sharing!

Enjoyed the video very much. Nice to be able to work in the gardens and see the daily changes and progress. I've used the bamboo pole and jute string idea for my big peony bushes, delphiniums and a few other tall plants. Works well! I find the peony rings are not big or tall enough either when the bush gets large, and they are a pain to store and untangle in the Spring! Great idea to spray paint them...might try that this year! I bought my husband the Blood & Thunder book a few years ago and he loved it. He enjoys historical books. He thought it was an excellent read, and very well written. ~M~

I will definitely be using your idea of the bamboo sticks on the peonies. Every spring, I struggle with my peony rings. I’ll be interested to see how this works out for you this summer. You’ve done an amazing amount of cleanup since you moved in to that property. The backyard gardens are looking so nice. The area I garden in is similar to yours. Lots of ancient plants and shrubs that have been let go over the years and very difficult to dig up or shape up can be backbreaking. Your videos are inspiring to me and keep me plugging away.

re: clear glassware etc. at your antique/thrift stores/shops:.... I find small glasses, coasters, or small mini bowl cups, and I look underneath on the outside bottom for interesting floral or star shapes that are part of the glassware design... THEN when I make rolled/pressed cookies (shortbread, peanut butter cookies, etc.), I roll the cookie dough into balls, then into granulated white sugar, and use the glassware to press/stamp down the cookie dough balls prior to baking! I love using this idea! It makes for wonderful designs in my cookies...makes them special!!

Love the idea of the black bamboo sticks for peonies. They're so regal, they deserve classy black stakes. Three months ago, we moved into a condo in Victoria, B.C., with stunning city/water/mountain views, which I love, but that means my passionate yard/gardening days have been relegated to some pots on the balcony. And it's ok. Your sharing of your lovely gardens and your passion for designing and caring for them fills my cup! I never knew living the gardening life vicariously could be so rewarding. Lovely, peaceful video. I love being in my garden too. Packing up your basket for a day of errands is such a great idea. I think I may have shared this with you before but I learned a tip years ago with the bulbs that I would get at Easter in pots. While your garden is still emerging look for the negative space that you would like to see the daffodils or tulips etc in the garden before the garden fully flushes out. Take the bulbs out of the pot ( store them till fall) dig the hole according to the pot size ,put the soil from the hole in the pot. Submerge the pot in the hole. Then in fall pull the pot, put the bulbs in the hole( according to depth ) then simply dump the soil from the pot over the bulbs ,tamp it down and voila . Ready for spring!

I have given up on peony rings - they just seem awkward to use , Instead I take soft garden twine to tie the branches together in loose circles, looping in and out to support the heavy blooms while hiding the twine within the leaves. Works well, is very easy and cheap, is undetectable, and there is nothing that I have to store.

Linda, I know you've moved peonies in the past, and I need to move some here in New England... What months did you move them? Was it before they bloomed? After? Or were you able to move them early spring? Thanks!
@newenglandfineliving
@newenglandfineliving 4 месяца назад
Hi, I have been very lucky with my moves. Some I had the luxury of waiting until the plant was spent (after it bloomed and after the greens died back) or when the red shoots were just coming up in the spring. I have dug them up when needed for a move, while flowering. They struggled, I had to stake them up, kept them watered, and the second year they did come back. If you need to move them now, I would suggest making sure you have enough soil around them to help them from going into too much shock (it will still most likely happen). Give them love and attention, they should come back next year even though they might look a bit sad this year. (also make sure not to plant them too deep or they will not flower). I hope that helps.
