The morning TfW service from Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central was provided by a rake of Mark 4 coaches being propelled by a Class 67 locomotive. These Mark 4s are great coaches, especially in 1st Class, and... I was really keen to try out the full breakfast experience. I had been told that the food on these TfW services is top notch, so I really did want to try it out for myself.

really good price for a 1st class saver ticket and the breakfast was very well priced
@user-hv7om4wc8k
I don't think TGV Lyria 1st is worthy because of impossible catering service, the speed that could not reach 300km/h and the very-high price.

Breakfast looks good, makes all the difference to the journey,
@GarethJonesPilipala
A very enjoyable video, nicely produced and informative. I travelled on the original one-train-a-day between Holyhead and Shrewsbury quite a few years ago and I, too, enjoyed an excellent breakfast. In those days you payed an all inclusive fare for a first class seat and breakfast. I hope TfW’s attempt to revive a high quality service between south and north Wales is successful.

HA, I did the trip from Crete last October and the weather was EXACTLY the same, even with the bit of sun between Shrewsbury and Hereford. Since your trip they've added 1st class branded headrest-covers, which are nice, and a rather ugly and distracting red stripe along the top of the windows - presumably to help with the confusion about where to find First.

I love your videos! Just the right length.... with positive and cheerful commentary!
@andyml1
Great video - thanks again. Can recommend the Swanage Bournemouth open top bus but it’s quite unnerving at times. 👍😃
@janebaker966
Well,I'm glad I've just watched this. I hope I can get that £30 for the journey deal. It can't be coincidence that this popped up in my feed as I've been sorting out my trip to Shrewsbury in February. Googlespy has been taking notes again! I was wondering best route for homeward journey and train strikes off I hope,this is it.
@RUOKH
This on-board catering service should become 'national standard' for all InterCity First Class services. Well done TfW. Thanks also for a great video report.
@DonaldTrumpIsGreat
Because This Livery The MK4s and DVT Have I Can What Operator That Is Who Had Them a Few Year's Ago Before They Went To Wales 👍
@michaelpoole587
What time was the train from Shrewsbury please. Great video, will have to do that.
@johnledingham852
Lovely video Johnny. What a priority for review points, comfort and breakfast. And it seems these both rated well. I was also pleased to see the

I really don't like it when TfW put 150s on the Manchester to Cardiff service as the timetable was scheduled for these class 67s. The reason being that the 150s are limited to 75mph whilst the 67s can do 110mph so if you're waiting for a service to/from Cardiff from/to Manchester and its quite delayed, that's why.
@EE12CSVT
Great video. It's a pity that it's hitand miss that the chef will be on board. Too frequently I've had a shrug of shoulders from TfW staff about it, and conductors who hide in their cab the whole trip.
@chrisraine4678
You used to get breakfast for free on 1st class trains now these days think just LNER and Avanti included free cooked food and alcoholic drinks.
@AndrewG1989
The TfW Mk4+DVT stocks that were used on LNER are very nice. TfW should also keep the Class 158 and Class 175.
@peterhoskins2651
Is this the train that only runs fridays? and if so there is one that runs around 8am for £18.50 then one before and after for over 40 pounds first class, is the cheap one the nice train?
@gamingwithcelfyn
Is the first class declassified?
@sandiandgregh
Now that our holiday is over it’s time to catch up on your videos! That breakfast looked amazing. We took LNER from Edinburgh to Aberdeen and chose first class. We were so spoiled and like you, distracted by our meal. Food was excellent and service was perfect. There’s something special about having a nice meal on a train. Pity about your weather in this one but still a nice journey.
@LegalHong
is this locomotive and railcars from the previous Gwr? the deep green livery has just recalled memories......
