Is the Stena ferry better than Eurostar? - we go from Rotterdam to London to see...

This is my first ever overnight ferry trip from the Netherlands to the UK with Stena. This route comes highly recommended (by Seat 61 no less!) and so I'm expecting a good trip.
I started in Rotterdam, but honestly, because the ferry leaves at 10pm, you've got enough time to travel the previous day from anywhere in the Netherlands and a lot of the rest of Europe too.
I booked this journey only three weeks in advance and got some discount with my Interrail ticket. Obviously many Interraillers use Eurostar, but with such short notice, it is unlikely that you'll find a reservable seat using your Interrail ticket!
Departure: Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Destination: London Liverpool Street, England, UK
Overnight ferry, with sole use of a two bed cabin: £83.40 / €97,80 (inc £12.60 Interrail discount)
Metro Schiedam to Hoek van Holland: €4,50
All other train journeys covered by Interrail ticket.

Yes that route has always been considered one of the most prestigious England-mainland Europe ferry links.

Thoroughly enjoyed this route in the other direction that I've been twice. Definitely more relaxing and cheaper than Eurostar to the Netherlands traveling alone and even more as a family sharing a berth.

I use this ferry route once a year or so to visit relatives in Germany (though unfortunately as a car passenger since I travel with family) and it's always an enjoyable trip.

You could also take metro line D or E from Rotterdam Centraal to Beurs station and change there for the same metro line B to Hoek van Holland.

Yes, there were other routes. I suppose for the Rotterdam traveller this makes it all the easier to connect across to HvH. Thank you so much for watching 👍

Thanks, i didn't know that. The problem is - I don't sleep well on any kind of transport, and the next day you feel really rough. Also - you don't see anything. For car or foot passengers, the Dover Calais service offers free dinner AND wine, but it could only happen on a route like that (not from Holland) as the alcohol comes from France, and as it always is in international waters, it avoids any tax (and meal VAT) that would be charged at Dover customs. Very clever idea to have an international dinner.! Finally, there is Eurostar - fast, very bland, with endless cuttings, concrete protection walls, and tunnels, it hardly is the way to see anything. Plus absolute crap expensive snacks (better off buying provisions from the locality, for your own picnic - yould be amazed the number of people who never give it a thought, before they board the train).😮 However, it's next best to flying for those in a hurry.

Haha yes I know what you mean about snacks on Eurostar. Best food I ever had was when my daughter and I met at St P and she brought the on train picnic from York of a selection of beers, cheeses and interesting breads. Great way to start a father and daughter beer holiday to Belgium! Best wishes to you. 👍

It's a great pity it no longer runs in the day time, otherwise I would use it. If any route requires overnight travel, I'll do one of two things 1) take a different route and stay overnight somewhere en route. 2) take the plane and finished.!

There is a daytime sailing. for example Harwich dep 09:00 Hook VH arr 17:15 - but that is most of the day on the ferry, so I'd rather use the time at night when I'm sleeping. But most definitely to each their own... that's the great thing about doing this travel thing. There are so many variations and they won't suit everybody.
