Tamil is the world's oldest language as well as beautiful language The drums you hear early are called “Parai” in Tamil The power of mother language of all the languages penetrated through her nerves. It's a Tamil song about nature and ancestors This form of singing is called "opaari" which means the song sung when a person is dead. OPPARI a.k.a lamenting for dead a culture followed by Tamils where women gather around the dead and sing together about the dead person. It's a way to grief with the community. In this music they're lamenting for the land lost.
This song have deep meaning song is incomplete if you seeing it without subtitles , even I am from north India don't understand the lyrics since it's diffrent from my Himalayan language but with subtitles I understand it better and no matter what this is about my family community and our community as whole as Human so subtitles is important in this case just an suggestion🙏💐🕉️🇮🇳
Love your reaction. This is one of my favorite songs. I don't know the language either, so I had to rely on the subs under the CC button. Luckily, they were actual translations and not auto-generated. Lol! It is my understanding that the song was written after long conversations with his grandmother. She had spent a couple decades in Sri Lanka as a laborer in the sugar cane fields when Sri Lankan labor was unavailable (I believe due to clashes between the Government and those wanting to bring it down) and promises of land and money were made. Once the issues were gone, the Indian laborers were sent back to India with empty hands. She then went on to work in local farmer's fields as a hired field worker for little money ("I have planted trees and made a garden, but my throat is parched"). There is a history of Indian laborers being sent as indentured servants under the British, to Sri Lanka, and to the West Indies, Africa, and elsewhere, after slavery was abolished. Those who "hired" the Indian laborers made sure to charge high prices for the trip, the food, the shacks, the poor medical care, anything they could charge for against the promised wages, which were low to begin with. As a working single mother she was still able to send her son to school and raised him to become a Professor. The professor then raised his son to get a degree in Engineering, followed by an MBA. The son (grandson) then went on to write and sing songs and raps for Tamil films. They usually have a lot of strong direct political messages, I've read (I could be wrong about all of this), this being one of the less direct ones. The song begins with him asking his grandmother to tell him stories, and she responds, calling him Enjaami ("my dear", "my little lord", when he begins to sing in "her" raspy voice) and telling him to ride the elephants and shower in the rain. If all else fails, there is always hope for the future (crop seeds) when the ancestors in their wisdom have left seeds of the trellis-climbing bitter-melon vines hidden up in the canopy of the trees to plant for a future crop. It is my best guess that the first humans arrived after the African diaspora spread out of Africa 69 to 80 thousand years ago. They likely followed the coastlines because all rivers (fresh water) always empty into the ocean. So, if you keep the seawater on your right, there will always be fresh water coming up ahead from the left. Along the way there would be clams to dig up for protein, minerals, and plenty of salty seaweed. The rivers would have edible vegetation, fruit trees, coconuts, etc. In South India there is a village in the forests that has been passing down verbally, for thousands of years, songs in an unknown language, unlike any other language, a language whose closest analog is bird song, suggesting that it is one of the first human spoken languages. Those forest people, that he is descended from, have lived in those forests for a long time, but without ownership. Outsiders keep coming in and claiming the land for themselves and destroying the forests.
Wow Chris, thanks so much for filling in some major gaps for us (as always!) One confession: we did originally watch it with the English subtitles on, but we were so blown away by the visuals of the music video that we barely caught 10% of the words, and a lot of the meaning was lost on us. Thanks for enlightening us! We visited Sri Lanka over 20 years ago, not that long after it was taken back from the British (and stopped being called Ceylon.) During that trip, we spent a few days up in the mountains where the tea plantations are located, and honestly it was the saddest part of our trip. It was obvious that the Indian people working the tea fields still lived a life of servitude and were not well treated. It was such high altitude and the oxygen was so thin that it was hard to walk around up there, and yet many of the workers were elderly, well past retirement age. And the fields were absolutely full of rats, still carrying nasty diseases. Sad to see that, even with the British gone from power, their old practices still remained. That's why this video gives us so much hope, to see those marginalized people finally given a voice and the spotlight they deserve. ❤️
Mother nature singing with them remind us She gives 5 elements of nature to us but SHE diserves dry throat , how much care about nature and pass down to next generation.
Yes! We spent some time in Sri Lanka, where Dhee is from, and it was one of the most beautiful places we've ever seen! This video really does look incredible and has such a powerful message! ❤️

It’s not tribal music, but the drum they play is called “parai “ in Tamil and it’s a very ancient instrument of Tamils which is still used in the countryside
This song has got deeper meaning & innuendos that goes beyond just the lyrical meaning (translation or trans-diction) U got connected with whole conceptualisation of the video - the singing, musical composition, the vocalist, rendition, instrumentation, cinematography and beautiful lyrics - which captivates us, while conveying a simple yet powerful message for our eternity (which many younger generation forgets and get caught in consumerism) :- TOGETHERNESS in DIVERSITY with RESPECT for RIGHTS of ALL Creatures-Creation Plant & Animal to LIVE in HARMONY with US all without exhausting Mother Nature & SHE will HEAL and SHIELD us ALL if ONLY we ALLOW Mother Nature to do HER works at her PACE. The language is Tamil (S.Indian - where is Chennai is based) and just as ARR & u both stating it's just the start n eventually the culmination of other languages will follow from diff global artist & background to make it global - good effort & foresight Arivu attempts to sing in his grandmothers voice !! Dhee is the singer of the famous "Rowdy Baby" song hitting in more than 1 billion viewer count in just RU-vid alone (not counting other social media platforms) Cuckoo - is the Cooing sound of the Cuckoo bird calling out (sounds - cuckoo cuckoo) & so the bird was named cuckoo bird.in English Just as this song is calling out to all to come together and live together in harmony as a family by respecting every creature's rights & belonging to be so and also sacrifices made by our elders to ensure the world's sustainability as we are all interdependent and should not exhaust our resources thru our irresponsible acts pushing us towards excessive consumerism directed by egoistic & greedy political leaders & biz entities covering people being displaced for all the bad reason as war, slavery, conflict and the likes n they making livelihood away from as refugees or otherwise due to discrimination. There's more to it if you go deeper ... it's about displacement of people for economic reasons, discrimination at all levels, disparity & disproportionate distribution of wealth as seen by certain biz Corp & political people but very the farmers who puts the food on ur plate is left behind struggling & scraping to make a living n let's come together as one to change and correct the ills sowed n directed by the many few (max 100-500) over the many (6 billion). Let's hv compassion to spread compassion thru unity with diversity over divisibility Enjaami is colloquially pronounced, with a village slang But it's actually EN Sammy (My Dear, My Beloved, My lord) and such is a Tamil endearment term usually used by elders to address their children or loved ones; esp the grandparents call their grandkids as such. Oodiya ... is actually Oodi Va (come running) to me or here (as we beckon come quickly to me) in Tamil language (which is marginally related & spoken in Central African countries too) Vaango Vaango = Come over, Come over (is sing with a Sri Lankan Tamil slang/twang) instead of Vaanga Vasnga (actual Tamil) Did u identify the young singer holding the hand of the elder to give support they would carry on with their elder's endeavour the custom of respect & sacrifice for the benefit of one and all including various creature's sustainability let alone survival of humankind in making this world a better place to live in. Modern Living with Older Generation's Traditional Values as one Earthly Family - So let's follow thru the path our ancestors fostered -,living in peace & harmony with Mother Nature Need to know abt the artist to relate to the song Brief Info on Artist - Arivu & Dhee Dhee is Tamil of srilankan Tamil origin (mother) settled in Australia but now moved to Chennai with Step Dad Santhosh the producer of this video .. She can speak Tamil but can't quite read and write it well as she was brought up in Australia Like wise Arivu ancestors were from Tamil Nadu near Kutralam - who were taken tho Ceylon (now Srilanka and not ethnic Srilankan Tamils as Dhees's mother Meenakshi Iyer) workers for tea plantation by the Brits when drought that region and was once again displaced after centuries from Srilanka by Srilankan Gov after it got independence from the British. Which was messed up by the Brits in not sorting the equal rights first as agreed by all parties which was eventually rescinded by the Sinhalese Bandaranayaka PM period By forcefully removing Tamil of its official status n forcefully inserting Singalese language while removing the Tamil language off school media and how ancient Tamil library and its literal works and arts were burnt down to wipe out Tamil historical traces and that set of the dispute leading to disharmony and friction within the 3 societies -,thanks to one leader (just as the division of India into Pakistan all Bcos Brits messed it up) ... ok enough of this Arivu tries to narrate the difficulties of people being forcefully displaced and so the importance of ancestors and tiger suede rings and contributions made for their future generation S n that we shd all respect the rights of everyone be it animal plants or creatures as we are one if we become one with Mother Nature Arivu lamenting (called Opaari in Tamil) reflects the hurt & suffering experienced and also he attempts to sing in his grandmother's old creaky voice at certain segment.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Paul! We actually had to go back and watch the video two more times with subtitles on after recording this, as there's a lot more to the story buried in there! Such a powerful music video! ❤️
Yes, we actually went back and re-watched this (three times, actually!) with subtitles! It took us some time to really understand the message, but it's quite profound and emotional! ❤️
there are 22 official languages and unofficial more than 1600 languages in India and every state has different culture and foods, you come to know only 3 languages. react more videos you will get more information.😎
Yes! We actually watched this video 3 more times after we recorded this reaction (3 more times because we kept being distracted by the visuals and missing parts of the story! 😁) You're absolutely right, the message is really profound! ❤️
Some info on Tamil: Need to know it, to appreciate it ! 230 million viewers now since March 7th!! Tamil is known as the Oldest Spoken Living language - still spoken currently on a daily basis unlike other old languages Tamils civilisation is also known as "The Lost Living Civilisation" by anthropologist and archeologist alike as their architecture and cultural habits are exactly similar to that of Mohenjedaro & Harappan civilisation (whose people suddenly when missing without a trace). Tamil is classified as the only "Super Classical" languages as classified by Harvard university since Tamil satisfied all 11 prerequisite condition for classification for classical status unlike the rest. Some classical language are Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew & Tamil, Sanskrit, . N closest was Hebrew & Japanese with 9, I believe (from recollection) n the rest below that.with Sanskrit @4-5 (no hindi or Urdu in the list surprisingly) and Chinese meeting 6-7 criterions. In Tamil language the Tamilians coined 20 more words for mathematical numbers beyond 1 billion n y such high crunching do they need it 2000 years ago; unlike now only recently did we incorporate new words such billion, zillion, trillion, quadrillion, tetra zillion n such So older civilisations were more advanced in maths then itself which we don't quite appreciate. There are 5 most intelligent languages - Tamil, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew, Chinese if not Arabic The reason Bcos the language has continuity in those language which is linked to maths, transpiring into the "Logic" realms leading advance civilisation development and so the claim of "intelligent" Language. For example, In English the number stops at 10 (discontinuity) n there is a disconnect after 10 (between 11 to 19) the continuity behind only after number 20 onwards (21 23 .. 29 ... 30, 31 ... 50, 51 ... 80 .. 99 , 100, 101..... 111 .... 121 ... 150 to infinity) So after 10 , 11 shd be read as ten one ten two not eleven or twelve but after 20, 21 is read as twenty one or 33 as thirty three n so on but the disconnect is between ten and nineteen (shd be ten ten (10) to ten nine (19) as per by logic. Bcos of this shortcomings other languages does not fit into the most intelligent languages as per experts who classified it to be so. The continuity is what separates these 5 languages from the rest. There are many more interesting factor - go explore it by visiting India or reading vetted materials on it. Watch Praveen Mohan post & videos on you RU-vid - he is good with explanation n evidences produced during his presentation (discard the Mythological and sensational part but understand rational & logical science part of his video - it will broaden your thoughts and mind on ancient civilisations) There many wonders too there - temples with chains carved out of granite, fusion of different rocks technology !!, 800-1000 years polished structure still smooth to precision n shining after all these years!! Revolving pillars as in spindle; seven musical note off a single pillar that comes off it on striking different sides of the pillars (delicate hand carving) and many more. One more pin hole tech used so much so that the shadow of the temple tower's crown's shadow falls upside down instead of upright shadow all built almost 1000 years ago Also there are many many temples like in maha Balipuram where a circular water tank tub (for bathing) is cut out of rock to a millionth of an inch (circumference of tub) which is machine precision accuracy using only medieval tools Not forgetting Ellora & Ajanta caves n many more ... I can go on n on .... I was astounded at the craftsmanship and depictions of advanced technology that we use today almost 1500-1000 years ago !! U need to go over to India to appreciate them - I did n think I should do more if it to learn abt the skills & intelligence of older civilisation throughout the world. Good you want to know more abt Tamil & thanks for that. FYI: Hit 107.5 million viewers in 30 days !! Thatha Thatha = grandfather Partee Partee = grandmother Kalaivettee = Kalai (plough) + Vetee (cutter) So it's about Farmers, cultivation & Agriculture Cuckoo is a real bird that COOS - making the song cuckoo cuckoo in the morning (wake up calls of mother Nature) It sounds just like Dhee does in the video calling onto others. So this cooing bird is called Cuckoo Bird in English just Bcos the bird sings or coos "CUCKOO-CUCKOO" You would have heard of the famous Swiss Cuckoo Bird Clock - it pops out of the clock and goes Cuckoo Cuckoo to sound the hour for the respective time. Annakili is actually Annam (swan) + kizhli (parrot) a name many tamils use to name their girl child meaning beautiful girl (white as swan signifying peace purity & pretty as parrot with nice beautiful eyes n nose) It is just a name like Lilly or Rose describing beauty for a girl child. In reality there is no such one bird but individual birds as in swan (Annam) and parrot (Kilizhi) Cuckoo is a real bird (not just a name to call their children) Annakili is just a name (no such real bird) - describing a beautiful girl. Arivu's grandmother beckons him lovingly as Karuppu (Black) or Innikum / Inikira (sweet) Karumbu (Sugarcane) "My Black/Sweet Sugarcane" in Tamil meaning "My sweetie" - it's another endearment term used to call kids by grandparents or loved ones. Btw black coloured sugarcane is the sweetest of all sugar cane ... other lighter green shaded one has average sweetness.
Hi my dear Simon sir & Ellie mam How are you doing? I just discharged from hospital 50% recovered I missed your many premiers 😢 I hope I wouldn't miss your premiere again
Hi Mr Pink Love! So glad to hear that you're at least one the road to recovery and have been discharged from hospital! We hope you get to full health again very quickly! And no problem at all about missing our premieres; we were actually traveling a little the last couple of weeks, so you haven't missed too much at all! We just recorded a lot of new content yesterday, so are getting back to it today! 😁
It's not about helping tribal bro, it's about we are tribals our ancestors are tribals who live in harmony with mother nature, that we lost our true identity and way of living
Hi guys. Lovely reaction. You guys need to check this out again with the subtitles on. You will love it even more. BTW this is the first song from the initiative by AR Rahman called Maajaa to provide a platform for independent artists. Check out the promo for Maajaa too guys
Thank you so much! We did go back and rewatch the video after this with subtitles and you're right, it was quite amazing!!! We love the idea of Maajaa, thank you for sharing this with us!!! ❤️
There is a difference between civilization and industrialization/urbanization.....in my opinion indigenous cultures are more civilized than modern urban/sub-urban communities.
The ancestors bequeathed this land with their hard work and toil..if you read the sub titles..you'll understand two important things...one..she says a pond /river of water doesn't only belong to us alone..but it it also belongs to each and every animal on the earth
Dhee and her parents fled Sri Lanka like millions of Tamils due to the civil war when she was a child. She has grown up in Australia. Singhalese and Tamils are different ethnic group in Sri Lanka. The issues started when Singhalese was made as single office language of Sri Lanka when Tamils existed in the island with the history. This song is composed and produced in Tamil Nadu, India. Tamil is the oldest living language in the world with Keezhadi excavtion archeological evidence of 2600 years.
Yes! We actually did watch this three more times with subtitles on, as we kept getting distracted by the visuals and then disagreeing with each on what the storyline was! 😂 It certainly is a very profound story, though!!! ❤️
Elephants play an important role in preserving the forest and nature, which plays a role in bringing about rain. That’s why Tamil ancestors made us worship the elephants to protect them from poaching. “Mum (3) maari (rain) in Tamil has been mentioned in ancient Tamil literature so many times. The Tamil kings always made sure that their lands received “maadham (monthly) mummaari” 3 times rain) to keep the land fertile. This song speaks about “ ambaari “ in Tamil , a seat fastened to the back of elephants where we can sit and ride, rhyming with mummaari thus connecting the elephants with rain. The messages in this song is for people all over the world. It’s the oldest language in the world, Tamil. Tamil has the root words for many languages around the world like Greek, Turkish, Korean and even Latin according to etymology researchers. This song is about the Tamil’s way of life. How our ancestors preserved this earth for thousands of years but how this generation is destroying all natural resources in the name of development and our offsprings will be left with nothing if this continues. The Tamils always say that all the resources in the earth are for all living things and not only for us humans. Enjoy is English, enjaami is a slang for en (my) saami (lord or god) (we just call our children and grandchildren dearly as “my god”) vaango vaango means come come, onnagi in Tamil means “together as one”. Basically the song says to the younger generation to come together and preserve nature and enjoy together. The thirukkural (sacred verses) written in tamil thousands of years ago by Tamil philosopher Thiruvalluvar also talks about this! This has been translated in many languages around the world. It says “paguthundu (sharing the food that we have with other living beings that are in need) palluyir (many/all living things) ombuthal (protecting all living things). The sound they make at the beginning and end of the video is called “kulavai” in Tamil. Ladies make this sound at the beginning of all festivals and celebrations. Proud to be a Tamil
Second important lesson is..that what excrement _spit that animals threw onto this soil..became our country..then our state/ then our home and our livelihood
Pls React *Neeye Oli* song. This song is Maajja's next song following the song *Enjoy Enjaami*. Starring Shan vincent D paul, Navz-47,Santhosh Narayanan. This song is the theme song of *Saarpatta Parambarai.*
Basically this song told us that human live with Nature, Animals, Plants etc. Preserve the Natural Resources, Protect the Mother Nature, Environment, and Ecosystem. Our Ancestors preserve and protect these all important things for us. But in todays greedy, careless, selfish human continuously destroying all important things on Earth. Actually human destroying their future by destroying the Earth. That's not the real humanity. Always remember that human don't live without Mother Nature, human don't exist without this beautiful, wonderful planet. Mother Nature and Earth don't need us but we always dependent on Earth, Nature and Natural Resources, Ecosystem. Without Earth and Mother Nature we are nothing.....
In tamil language it say keep the earth safe place to stay ancient humans give it clean to ask but wat we do is destroying mother nature. so protect mother earth and nature thats the message of this song.
Please React To/Enclosed Below Link For Video From Chennai Drummer Sridhar Official You Tube Channel/In this Video, Sridhar has rendered Drum 'Cover' For 'Enjoy Enjaami' Album Featuring Artists Arivu, Dhee(Composer Santhosh Narayanan Daughter)This Album Produced By Santhosh Narayanan
Are you kidding me? You had to see them get happy about a shirt or a ball point pen to realize they were human beings? Right now you guyz are trying to make of those same people!
We appreciate you taking the time to comment, but our point was that it was humbling to see kids in Sri Lanka who got excited about the idea of a shirt, as opposed to greedy kids in the West who would barely be happy with a new games console. Sorry that we weren't clear about that, but we've always seen people of all cultures as human beings with equal rights to happiness, that's very important to our world view.
Nope. You got it all WRONG. The way "Enjoy" and "Enjaame" is written in the lyrics has two different meanings. (1). En+Thaiyee is pronounced as Enjayee. The real meaning is: My dear Mother. (2). En+Saami is written in the lyrics as "En-Jaami", It means: My dear God. Basically, the lyrics addresses My mother and My God. The real intention is to address close relatives with repect. A Grandmother in rural and tribal setting often addresses her grandson as 'Ny Golden boy (looks like My Lord Ram/Lord Krishna),
True, we only mentioned Sri Lanka because Dhee was born there (and because we've visited there and met Tamil people.) Sadly, we've not had a chance to visit Tamil people in India yet, but hopefully after the pandemic we can do that!
hey brother, pelase watch the song with lyrics, i wish you knew the languae like me, but you got the jsut of it, but this song is about the earth and how it belongs to all of us, and what grows out of the earth is waht is our shelter and food an that this was given to us buy our parents and our ancestors and how we need to respect nature and our forfathers that worked the land( not the one in the city living modern fake control live) . we can never forget that we all share this earth and most of us want to live to procreate and leave a healthy earth for them to inharte. it has noting to do with poorness. living with nature is the live to live not city live. thats cancer cell on the earth.
Thank you for the kind words! ❤️ And you're exactly right; we see this as our journey into the various cultures, movie industries, languages and dance styles of India, and feel privileged that people are willing to be patient while we learn (and often help educate us!) We've actually chosen not to monetize our channel, and any revenue from ads goes to the Indian movie company or music label, as we felt that was the right thing to do.
This song does not mean on srilanka and Tamil is one of ancient language and surviving and classical language announced by usico. telugu originated from Tamil India has a two major language the ancient Tamil and the awful sanscrit which hasn't own script it was begged script from devnagri but Tamil has an own script entirely differ from such as Hindi, sanscrit ,...
