I’m glad you explained the 7 & 8 positions because I was having trouble seeing myself go to those but now I do. And I love your reference to how they both build energy for me. Your advice for supporting a 5 is great too!

Sx/sp 5w4 Tritype 512 and I have never felt so seen in my entire life since discovering the enneagram! Thank you for how lovingly you teach about and describe us 5’s. ❤

Five descriptions often remind me of the stereotype of someone on the autism spectrum. I think that’s one of the reasons it’s so important to focus on motivations rather than potential behaviors when describing the types. You two do a great job of that btw! My wife, who suspects she is autistic, might be mistaken as a five if people didn’t know her well, but if you get to know her well you see her motivations are much more aligned to her actual type-which is 9. 😊

This is why it's so helpful to have Enneagram language, our personalities are not pathologies! Looking past what's on the surface is what the Enneagram is all about!

Oh, and to answer the last question in the video - - I am very into personality stuff lately. Mainly Enneagram and MBTI (including the cognitive functions). I'm in that stage where I am trying to "type" everyone I converse with and test my knowledge level. Still lots to learn, so that's fun!

Glad that your deep dive search brought you to us! But don't forget, the Enneagram isn't just about learning, it's also about doing!

Loved this! I related to all of the type 5 points Abi and Kimberly brought up. Some of it was a bit of an ouchie, but important for growth, I suppose. Thank you!

Hi again. After reading claudio naranjo’s descriptions, i’m pretty sure i’m not a 5, lol. I think i’m a self preservation 6. It’s not really my fault though, the enneagram is hard, and stupid. Lol. And the self preservation 6 is very different from the other types. There were a few clues i ignored, though.

Also, you have said many times that withdrawn types don’t believe their presence matters, because they repress their body. What would be the equivalent statement for heart-repressed and head-repressed types? (If there is one)

I don't know that there are exactly analogous statements for the other triads, but here's what I think most closely represents the ideas: 3, 7, and 8, don't believe that feelings matter (theirs, and often other people's) because they've repressed or moved away from their heart center. 1, 2, and 6's don't have as much access to their head center, and therefore are out of touch with their own inner knowing or inner authority and have to substitute it for someone or something else's. Does that help?

Can you clarify what you mean when you say that 5s are always calculating their energy? I’m a 5 and i have no idea what you’re talking about, though i realized today all enneagram types aren’t aware of some central issue and i shouldn’t be an exception haha. Also you guys are great

I would say that 5's are always (and often unconsciously) managing their energy. Trying to make sure they'll have enough to get through the day. They tend to be more conservative with their mental/emotional/physical energy because of their fear of being depleted.

5 here. You kind of screwed me with my sister, who's a 7. As soon as you said that 5s are usually right, she tuned out. 😒 She never heard the part about how to support a five. 😢

I always find, when introducing someone to the enneagram, or systems like it, it's best to start them with their type so they can see themselves and what their work is more clearly. Then, once they've had an helpful experience with it, they're likely be more able to stay open for others. Also, with 7's specifically, just skip to the good part (or the part you *really* want them to hear). Never save the best for last when you're working with 7's, hahaha.

I was trying to get her to buy into talking to me in a more effective way for a 5. Direct, short sentences. But she's not getting it. She's a "storyteller" who can't get to the point! 🤬 Why is clarity so hard for people!!!
