At first I thought, "It's unfair that type 2s are not the main character in the majority of these films", but on second thought, it is very on brand for a type 2 to not act as the "main character" of their own story
@TypeCast
@TypeCast 2 года назад
For these videos I've had a tougher time finding Twos (and Nines) that are strong main characters. I've had the same thought... they often lean into more supporting roles in life (and thus, on screen).

Type 2 here. I’d actually strongly suggest that Sam is a type 6. He is deeply selfless and supportive, but not with everyone-only with the people he trusts and looks up to most. In fact, his typical disposition is more suspicious of the motives of those they meet-a “loyal skeptic” indeed. He’d never left the shire before or traveled very far and leaving was a very big deal for him, but he could be tremendously courageous when it came to that bond above all else. The reason he gives to Frodo isn’t to get love back, nor does he punish Frodo or sulk when he feels unappreciated (just worried and more suspicious of gollum), it’s bc it’s his role and duty he has held to as well as his genuine care for him. He also doesn’t try to ingratiate himself to others through flattery, smiles, help, kindness, in any other relationship. We’ve gotta remember how loving and loyal 6s can be!! Thank you for your videos! They’ve been really fun to watch!

Thanks! Those are all great points about Sam and I’m sure I could do a whole video on him using Six quotes. My videos aren’t really about Typing specific characters. It’s more about using individual clips to illustrate certain aspects of each Type… “painting the big picture.” There’s even places where I’ve intentionally used a character of the “wrong” Type because a certain scene so perfectly illustrates something about a different Type. Originally I wasn’t even going to identify the characters but people kept asking me, “Who was that? What film was that from?” So I added the name/title graphics in case people wanted to see more on their own. Plus so many of these fictional characters act as Rorschach tests… we all see what we “want” to see. The important thing for me is using the characters to learn more about ourselves and others, regardless of Type.

Thanks! Personally I think his “need to be needed” (2) is much greater/stronger than his “need to avoid pain” (7). His picture should be in the dictionary next to “codependency”. However, he’s a fictional character, so it’s possible he could have traits of multiple types in combinations that a real person wouldn’t. He’s definitely got some 7 in him!

Have any of you seen the movie "Jungleland"? Starring Charlie Hunnam and Jack O'Connell. I thought immediately of this character in particular that shows some Type 2 Traits. Hunnam plays the older brother of Jack that sacrifices in any possible way for him. Since they barely have money, Hunnam's character helps him into his boxing career by training him, even by skipping meals so he doesn't starve and stay strong. When they get in trouble, Hunnam's character does whatever it takes to protect him. Sadly, he forces later his brother into fighting even though he suffers from arthritis. They fight and Hunnam's characters EXPLODES by shouting in a dinner, spitting every single thing he has done for him, and complaining he won't show any gratitude. This is a very good movie, you guys should watch it!

Funny thing, this video actually just helped me realize that my really unhealthy and toxic older sister _isn't_ a 2 at all, like I have thought she was for years. She has never acted like this, or had motivations like these. She might actually be an 8.
@TypeCast
@TypeCast 2 года назад
For what it's worth, Twos can go towards Eight and take on some of those characteristics. Traditionally that's been defined as a Two "going to Eight in Stress", which has a negative connotation. But I'd say that today more Enneagram people recognize that each Type can go to their "connecting points" in both healthy and unhealthy ways. So, your sister could be a Two but taking on unhealthy characteristics of an Eight. Out of curiosity, have you watched the Eight video? Does that feel like her at all?
@milo_thatch_incarnate
@milo_thatch_incarnate 2 года назад
@@TypeCast I watched the 8 video a while ago, but I'm going to watch it again to see. I think SHE told me she was a 2, but I see no 2 traits in her at all. She's always been very rebellious and, frankly, pretty self-focused. She doesn't love other people excessively to try to find love -- healthily OR unhealthily. When we were young, she would do stuff like date strings of really bad boys and sneak out of the house at night, just because she wanted to defy our very strict Christian parents. Even when she was healthy, I don't remember a time when she's been notable self-sacrificial or unusually loving by nature. I mostly just want to understand her so I can build a healthier relationship with her.
@TypeCast
@TypeCast 2 года назад
I’d also recommend checking out the Type descriptions on the Enneagram Institute website. You can kind of skim those to get a sense of each Type. It might also be helpful to read through the “levels of health“ under each Type. Those will give you a pretty good sense of the range of healthy to unhealthy. www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-descriptions

Lily from HIMYM when she manipulates Barney and Robin into the same room to “work through their problems” - would that apply for unhealthy 2s?

The test is a good way to get you pointed in a general direction, but I highly recommend that you read through the Type descriptions on the Enneagram Institute website, specifically the ones in your “top three”. @TypeCast
@TypeCast 7 месяцев назад
I’ve never read the books but I think there’s a great argument for six in the movies. However that’s not really the point. There are some places where I have intentionally used a character that is definitely not that type as an example of a different type. It’s not about “typing characters.” It’s more about using specific scenes to demonstrate something specific about each type. If that makes sense.
@mattdouglas1050
@mattdouglas1050 7 месяцев назад
@@TypeCast That's fair enough. As, in one sense, everyone is every type to a greater or lesser degree
@TypeCast
@TypeCast 7 месяцев назад
Yes. Also these scenes are depicting external behaviors. Theoretically every single type could be doing the exact same external behavior but each doing it for very different internal reasons. So I could change out the quote and have it “fit“ for any time. But obviously some scenes are much more clear than others in terms of which type they make sense for.

@TypeCast
@TypeCast 2 года назад
Thanks...? This channel isn't about Typing specific characters though. It's about painting a broader picture of what each Type is all about, using select clips to demonstrate that. The "actual Type" of the character is irrelevant. In some cases I've used a character that is very much *not* that Type, but a specific clip demonstrates a certain character trait perfectly.
