Enneagram Type One in Film and Television

Taking a deeper look at the Enneagram Type One by showing examples from film and television.
From the Enneagram Institute: "Ones are conscientious and ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong. They are teachers, crusaders, and advocates for change: always striving to improve things, but afraid of making a mistake. Well-organized, orderly, and fastidious, they try to maintain high standards, but can slip into being critical and perfectionistic. They typically have problems with resentment and impatience. At their Best: wise, discerning, realistic, and noble. Can be morally heroic."
Note: This video is not a statement that every character shown is 100% a Type One. Most are fictional creations and might have characteristics of multiple Enneagram types that a real person would never have. Rather, it's a montage of characters acting in a specific way in a specific scene that demonstrates some attributes of an Enneagram Type One.

@@TypeCast honestly I have difficulties relating to the sense of constraint and self-sacrifice that Ones revolve around. It seems to me like an obstacle to live fullfilling experiences. Also I value open-mindness over judgemental approaches to others' experiences and I think Ones can't help but see the moral faults on someone's actions more than other types. In addition, I feel like their somehow traditional approach to life makes them prone to not value new perspectives and disregard input from people that care about them. I have a One in my life who I'm very close to and I feel like they just expect me to act according to what they think is right without considering my own journey of self-development... I guess I'm now learning to practice being more indulgent myself and respecting their vision of the world even when I think I couldn't feel completely free to be myself around them
@TypeCast
@TypeCast 2 года назад
@Pop Mashups - What’s your Type? Every Type has advantages and disadvantages. Our greatest strengths can also be our greatest weaknesses. For the One, constraint and self-sacrifice can be very fulfilling, which might sound crazy to other Types. But if the constraint and especially judgement are taken to extremes, then of course it can be unhealthy. Just as the fun and adventure of the Seven can lead to escapism and irresponsibility, or the love and nurturing of the Two can lead to smothering and codependency, so it goes for every Type. There’s a balance for the One. Between having a moral compass and perhaps a sharper “ethical clarity” than others on the one hand, and becoming a moral prig, know-it-all, and rigid fun-ruiner on the other. Your friend might be taking it to an unhealthy degree. You might also be perceiving “criticism” from them when they are genuinely just try trying to make things better. That doesn’t mean their behavior is automatically justified though. Keep in mind that however critical and judgmental a One is towards you (and the world), we’re a thousand times more critical of ourselves. Also, the subtype (Sexual, Social, Self-Pres) can have a big influence as well. Ones have many different “flavors”. I’m a Sexual One so I’m much more of a Reformer than a Perfectionist.

I wish there were many, many more videos like yours, explaining personality types from all different typing systems through film! Especially in the format you choose: show, not tell. There are captions at the bottom to explain why you chose each character and each scene, but mostly, it’s just a meditation on the way each personality type shows up in all its forms throughout our storytelling. I love the simplicity of it. This 5 appreciates your very competent work.

What a marvelous video, i love the detail of work and effort that has been put into this! Its incredible. What i've noticed is that most of the fictional characters linked with the INFJ mbti personality type are also likely to be Enneagram Type 1. A case could be made for Eight as well, but I think this clip specifically demonstrates an unhealthy aspect of the One. The purpose of my videos isn’t to Type specific characters but rather to use select scenes to paint an overall picture of each Type.
@Reu8enofleon
@Reu8enofleon 2 года назад
@@TypeCast I can see that argument, I believed it too until now. 8 feels quite surface, looking just the extent of the expression of anger. But if we take into account artistic license (which is very much at play given how many jazz students have said the environment was nothing like that) we can assume this is just the portrayal of what an unhealthy 1s expression feels like to the person. It’s warped but at the core of everything Fletcher does is this righteous striving for perfection. Everything in pursuit of it is a small sacrifice for the “greater good” of the perfection he’s trying to achieve. His philosophy on the phrase “good job” can support this and his “revenge” also feels very much like a righteous person being scorned.

With the RHETI test, they'll give you the full Type descriptions of your Top 3. Read through all of those, and generally (for most people) one Type will "jump out and punch you in the face." You can also find the full Type descriptions on their website under the "Learn" tab.

@TypeCast

I could see why that would seem like the case, but very much no. An Eight would *never* acquire all the Infinity Stones, then destroy them shortly after using them. He wants the Stones (and their power) not for the sake of the power itself, but as a means for accomplishing his “righteous cause.” He’s more Reformer than Challenger. On this channel I’m very much about not necessarily typing specific characters, and holding each character loosely as there can be many interpretations. However, there are a few characters that I’d argue are unquestionably a specific type, and I’d say Thanos is one of those. I’m cohosting the third season of “The Enneagram In a Movie Podcast” with Mario Sikora, and coincidentally this afternoon we are recording an episode where we will be discussing Thanos. So keep an eye out for that episode when it is released, probably in a month or two.
