My word. I watched thinking the only thing you could say for the 8s was they were bringing the coffee, then you said cranberry sauce, and I have never felt so seen. I make a killer cranberry sauce with orange and lime zest and I also know that not everybody likes me or the sauce. (I also can carve a turkey better than my husband or his father because once in a retreat to my 5 space I read a Martha Stewart article on the proper way to carve things and it has stuck.)
I'm a 6, and my family tradition is something you only see in central Kentucky -- banana croquettes. Chunks of banana rolled in mayo (or Miracle Whip) and chopped peanuts. It sounds disgusting, but is absolutely delicious (salt, sweet, fat -- *chef's kiss*). Holidays aren't holidays without it, and I'm bringing it if no one else is.
Enneagram 4: I feel so called out about the mashed potatoes. Because I love all kinds of potato dishes and mashed potatoes are my favorite thing to eat during Thanksgiving.
I’m a 4- and I absolutely do let my imagination go wild when cooking for thanksgiving but I’m not a mashed potatoes fan and as a 4 my favorite dish can’t be everyone’s favorite 😂 I typically bring pies. sweet potatoes, and make pumpkin soup though!
5 here... I literally gave a mini class at thanksgiving dinner table this year on the import history of three varieties of sweet potatoes w their comparative nutritional profiles...some of my family members are into nutrition, so I thought they might be interested.
My 2 husband brings pie every year. This 6 will bring whatever is assigned, but you better believe I also make my own turkey dinner every year for our immediate family with all MY childhood favorites.
As a 4 I always try to bring whatever is "not" at all a "Thanksgiving" dish because "who says what we have to eat on Thanksgiving anyways?" This is usually some sort of curry dish I learned to love during one of my many travels abroad (that I know my friends/family will also like of course...because as a 4, I DO want people to see and appreciate me lol) or a funky, yet beautiful dessert or drink. But yes...I am in my imagination the entire time I prepare said dish/drink, so that is spot on!
Ok, so my (9) favorites are the gravy and the stuffing. I feel like the reason I like stuffing is bc it is comforting, carby goodness. And the gravy covers up all the food I don't like, like grainy potato lumps in apparently glue, but which I won't leave on the plate and hurt anyone's feelings. I have mastered the technique of taking tiny portions so I don't leave anything gross on the plate, and then I go through a second time and load up what I liked. I like gravy even when the food is amazing, though.
I'm a 4 and I'm adding my voice to the potato thing. Not doing mashed potatoes because they are so boring but, I am doing roasted roots which has potatoes in it, so there is that.
I mean, Whole Foods pre-prepared dinner. Less stress. More time for board games. And ha ha, yes, I'm a Six, and it's always been my mom's Green Chili and Rice casserole. I have MCAS now and can't eat it anymore, but that was always my go-to.
As a 6, thank you 2's for your pies, truly...but I will absolutely be bringing my aunt's Sweet Potato Pie, and regaling you with stories of how my family fought over these pies throughout my childhood!! I feel so seen 😂❤.
I am a 6 who loves to bake and baking pies are my specialty. So I would be baking the pie but obviously I would like to try 2s pie as well. Also It would not be Thanksgiving without the best stuffing in the world which is my families homemade stuffing.
In the middle of watching the 4 segment, I get a message from the Leeann and Michelle Instagram page, that I should watch the RU-vid video to really understand the Instagram post. Extremely spooky and God has a great sense of humor.
Enneagram 2 here. I always bake something for Thanksgiving dessert. One year it was Paula Deen's pumpkin gooey butter cake. It was a hit, so I made it again for a Christmas party at work. One year, it was pumpkin spice cookies with a cream cheese icing topped with nutmeg. Those were a hit, especially with the kiddos. Christmas time I made gingerbread crinkles, and those were a hit.
(9) I do love stuffing; it's probably my favorite Thanksgiving food ... but I love to MAKE cranberry sauce, because CINNAMON! So much cinnamon. But you're right, not everyone likes it ... good thing I usually make everything! (Exhausting.) They love my turkey, which is way easier.
Haha I was waiting for the 8 to be bringing the turkey (typically the host makes the turkey and the 8 hosts, so, ....) Also anecdotally my husband and I are bringing stuffing and cornbread this year lol.
No 4 would be caught dead bringing basic potatoes. At least make them scalloped! Lol! Something a bit more exotic like oyster dressing, or perhaps a stuffed pumpkin, or a unique dessert that has nothing to do with Thanksgiving and doesn’t fit in (like chocolate eclairs) would be a better fit for us. -A 4 who hates mundane tasks, and the mundane so we don’t even have potatoes at our house. But we’ve been known to have an eel (5 wing!)
The 9’s dance and song 😂😂 As a 9, it called me out. But reminded me how much I’ve grown at standing up for myself.. sometimes, if it won’t hurt someone’s feelings. 🙃
OR the 2 hosts, cooks the turkey, tells everyone not to worry about bringing sides, and does everything themselves 😂 then the 6 shows up with their sweet potato casserole and the 2 feels offended.
