I’m a first time viewer (subscribed) I’m retired after over 50 years of building homes, wood working, metal fabrication etc. I just told someone yesterday “I’ve never made a cutting board”. However my first drawer insert I too took out the dividers and scooped them. Thanks ! Your philosophy is correct. I once made a nice hand made piece of furniture for a Lady, then carved her out a spoon from an apple tree pruning. She razes about the spoon.

Thanks Nick. I have been thinking about something like this for years now. Your work is inspiring. I do enjoy making cutting boards that no one uses. There one quick shot showing your chisels. I have been thinking about making a couple chisel caddies. All my chisels are in a box looking about as organized as your drawer before you built your insert. But at least they are in the same place. The other one I want to build is a gift for someone who needs to keep his chisels all in the same place..

This was great to watch. What I noticed that I found interesting and intriging was that you simply fit the end of the divider to the slot and wasn’t concerned that the divider was a uniform thinkness. To me this makes great sense. Sometimes we get caught up in imperfections no one will every see or appreciate. The woodworking police aren’t showing up to with calipers to check that… Thanks for sharing this build with us. Oh one last thing, 100% agree a hand plane before sandpaper whenever possible.

I am a keen woodworker. I have a regular stall at a craft market where I sell a bit of my stuff and take an occasional commission job. Recently I re-glued and re-finished a fancy cutting board for one of my fellow stall holders. Went through the grades of sandpaper and put three coats of my expensive cutting board oil on. They were pleased as I gave it back. Next month I asked how it was holding up. " Oh, we don't use it " they said, "We have it mounted on the wall. It's too nice to use ".

I agree about there being enough cutting boards. I got into woodworking out of necessity because I had some tools and my Microgreens business didn’t pan out but then I fell in love with it, saw EVERYONE doing cutting boards and decided that market is definitely flooded. I’ll make one for myself but definitely going to have to find a niche. Your designs are damn impressive and really fit how I’m wanting to do some projects. I’m leaning more toward natural wood/live edge style items but with really out of the box design so you’re definitely an inspiration there. Awesome work man keep it up!
@patricknoel2122
@patricknoel2122 Год назад
Do keep in mind that while live edge is beautiful when done properly you can over do it. When working with smaller objects it can be very hard to find a good balance of natural edging on a peice, it can either be to much and look rough or not enough and look like you just ran out of full size material to use, I tend to lean toward natural edge on things like tables, lidded boxes, sometimes coasters, but never anything like the drawer organizer above, I find a 10-15% of the item when viewing it the way its intended to be used is a happy spot for live edge, for instance, if I'm making a hallway table, or end table I want to design it to have no less then 10% and typically no more then 15% of what will be the most likely perspective anyone will have when looking at the finished product in someone's home
