Probably not the most expensive. But it is a very sexy walnut cutting board. Get Subscribed! Lots of expensive custom pieces coming up. Thanks for watching.
I memorialized my son with a tattoo that was his twin's idea. He lived for 27 hours but he still lives in his twin, my wife and in me, as well as his three other brothers. We need to remember. You are truly an artisan of wood! Thanks and keep working with Blacktail Studio.
Whether you know it or not. Your willingness to share the difficulties your family has gone through, is helping other people going through it as well. Knowing they're not alone is comforting in a way. I continue prayers and as always, enjoy your work. Congrats on the panto pick up!
You're the first person I've seen take a hand plane to flatten an end grain cutting board. Very subtle and impressive display of how sharp you keep your plane irons!
Great video, I like how your work incorporates a bit of old and new school techniques with the hand and powered planes. Also, as a father of my own son, I can't imagine the heartbreak.
I'm on what I believe is my 3rd time watching most if not all your video's and everytime seeing the plane it brings tears to my eyes. Definitely makes me squeeze my son extra tight and enjoy every mintue with him that much more. What a awesome way to memorialize your son!
New to your channel I was watching Blacktail studio. And then you popped up. Your work is absolutely amazing kid. Your attention to detail is second to none. I’m 57 years old and you have taught me a lot in the last two weeks. Thank you keep up the videos I can’t believe you don’t have over 1 million prescribers are ready
Hi Nick, you will never forget Saber, hopefully in the future you will be blessed with a child. The cutting board is beautiful, I hope your sister appreciates it. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing engraving on the plane. No words for your loss. I can't even imagine. I don't know you but I'll pray for you from now on. And you do absolutely stunning work. Thanks for this channel and sharing your talent.
i too love your memorial, 'forever with me', plane. That said, I think this a very 'luxurious looking' cutting board. I am sure the recipient will be thrilled with it. Don from South Aust.
Really beautiful work, Nick! Fantastic looking cutting board! 😃 The engraving in the plane is really sweet. Awesome idea! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Wow, your sister is blessed to get one of your creations!! That you hand planed that is impressive!! You are a true craftsman!! Your engraved planer in memory of your son is such a treasure!! God bless y'all!!
u are by far one of the best woodworker i have ever seen!!! hope you blow up like the rest ! i will be supporting you and spread the word!!! true craftmanship
Block plane for the initial pass/glue-be-gone-scrape is a Gangster Move! This is the first time I have come across your work, and I am STOKED to have found you! Thank you for sharing your story, your beautiful creation, and your obvious passion for making cool shit! -C.Y. Castor
That hand plane for Saber is beautiful and truely an awesome way to immortalise the little fella. Stay strong brother. Oh yeah , nice cutting board and loved the vid 😂👍👍
I am convinced 70-80% of my cutting boards go unused because they're "too pretty". So sad. Because they're very functional and built to take heavy use.
As always, thanks Henry. Hits in weird times in weird ways. Learning to deal with the void. It’s always reassuring to hear that the void becomes more bearable
Could you provide me with some more details on grain orientation to get that look? My brain just was kinda lost how you achieved it. From my understanding you first laminated strips of the wall nut in opposite grain direction or was it just flipped (like a happy face sad face grain pattern) and then cross cut and repeat?
The engraving on the LN is beautiful. I think I asked before but what do you use for editing? I like how you have the animation on your emblem. I use FCP/Motion but my emblem was in illustrator
Love the board. Love the plane more. Also, am I the only one that never thought to just reverse a board back over the planer instead of lifting it up & over????
Air Fryers were also God's gift to french fry enthusiasts who like to order takeout :D I'm pretty sure mine has saved at least 500 bucks' worth of garbage fries
Beautiful board. Could you explain what the '+4' jig in your thicknesser is? Do you put it in each time you switch mode to avoid having to wind the bed all the way up? Have a similar combo setup and it is really annoying. Thanks!
Walnut makes the best end-grain cutting boards. Stunning outcome, and thanks for sharing your son's plane. Also, don't sweat the procrastination thing... I've been meaning to stop that myself, but put it off until later. Question: what was that tool you used to go over the signature before you put the white paint in it?
I have never put feet on the cutting boards I've made - it wastes half the board. Just put the board on a wet rag to keep from slipping and turn occasionally. ALWAYS wet both sides when cleaning. I also put a deep groove around the perimeter so it's easy to pick up the board. Nice job.
Hold up! 2 things. First, the Memorial plane is stunningly beautiful. Second, what was that you did when planing the boards with the triangle? I never seen that before. Is there an added benefit?
Odd question, dunno if it's been answered. What is that leather pouch on your belt for? Phone? Wallet? Knives lol? I like the look and idea of it and wanted to know were you got it or if you made it? Thanks for making incredible videos!
Hey Sawyer , i need to know a couple of things from you but first ! WAOW amazing cutting board and it’s a first for me to see someone put shellac on the underside , if the finish is’nt the same your board will cup or bow . Any how that’s me and you must have good reason to do that 😜👍🏼🇨🇦 Ok now i would like to know how big is your shop , cause i’m downsizing to a 16’x20’ shed / workshop . Need also to know why you chose to have a tablesaw seperate to a combination jointer/planer ? In stead of small all in one 5 combo kit ? Also since you chose Hammer , maybe , you have discounts ? Anyway thx for your help ❤️
Hey good questions! The seal coat on the bottom is to keep the finish from draining through the board. My shop is 20x20. I’m not familiar with any commercial grade all in one units that are precise enough for the work I do. Woodsmiths seem to be a hobby grade machine
I agree, I would not add shellac or anything else on the underside for exactly that reason. Boards have to have even moisture distribution on both sides to avoid warping/cupping.
You showed me something I didn't know but I understand why you do it after thinking about it. Jointing the two peices at the same time.👍👍💪🧠💚🪵 Thank you for the knowledge bro👍💪🧠Great video👍👍👍👍
Bruh, it HAS to be walnut ;). @<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="60">1:00</a> it was such a familiar feeling that I, without knowing I was doing it, jumped right back into the calculations I was doing before I came in from the shop tonight. For me it goes one of two ways: I'm full on Good Will Hunting or either 2+2=orange...
I am new to the channel, but i just subscribed. If you dont mind, because im new here and havent seen previous videos yet, what happened with Saber? I have a 9 month old son, Maverick, and he has changed my world. Im a big watch buff, so im having one of my favorite time pieces engraved for Mav. That handplane was truly a work of art. Best wishes and your family is in my prayers.
That’s awesome man. Cherish it. Full Story ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yt19AenEBL4.html Abbreviated story/build ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i3j9Xy33s_s.html What’s your favorite watch you’re having engraved?
@@SawyerDesign i am a big fan of Deep Blue watches, especially the ones with Tritium in them. The one i engraved is called the Alpha Marine. Check them out if you’re into watches like that. I will be watching the other videos in a bit. I have a feeling they are going to break me down 😢
Soooo....is that also a big fender washer in your back pocket? Lol Seriously though, i have never seen anyone blast out an endgrain cutting board that fast. And welcome to the Pacific Northwest 👍
Bro! You can’t use Pantorouter clamps for a cutting board glue up!!! Are you nuts?! That’s just crazy thinking!! 😉🤣 Seriously though, get a sponsor. ❤️
I made a sapele board with a few thin poplar strips for my nan, went to visit her the other day and saw her regular oak one... "Nan where's the chopping board I made for you?" My Nan: Oh I use it to serve glasses on, it's too pretty to use. Was tempted to take a knife to it then and there and go "well now it ain't so get using it!" Beautiful work as always!
Bet you wished you spend the extra money for the A3 31 like i did when i hit the limit the first time. Those 5cm extra dont seem worth it till you need them
10 x 20 x 2 = 400cu in. Which is about 2.66 bd. Ft. Don’t whine to me about waste, 20% tops. Let’s call it 3 bd. Ft. Even. Where I live, walnut is $16.00 a bd. Ft.
Sorry, I don’t work for free 🤷♂️ still have to buy the whole board, choose grain, pay for the shop, the tools…. Don’t whine to me about not knowing how business works.
Looks pretty meh for that price point. If you're going to make a cutting board specifically for calling it the most expensive and getting RU-vid views, you should've at least made it out of burl or something that looks interesting. Lol
Triangles taper so the wide side goes in, skinny goes away from the fence. Just a handy way to ensure the jointed edges are complimentary, regardless if the fence is perfectly 90
@@tektrixter Thank you for your answer, could you be more specific which one you are using and is it good ? (Automatic (spring loaded) center punch). Thank you very much.
