Also as a Z deck hold out, its a pain to only be able to add good generics to the deck instead of having a decent neo navy archetype or a purple film engine. Animal kingdom is okay and the black variants are coming but playing that typing in king is just better outright. Please give us purple film or neo mavy or just remake black purple Z 😅🙏🏽
@@heartpiratestcg because they had the bright idea of making a red/purple uta leader with an even worse set of film cards (red) instead of just doing green/purple uta… lmao
There is definitely an oversaturation of leaders in this game…especially since Bandai only seems to actually support 4-5 set by set. I don’t think every leader should be playable or good, just like every card they put in a set shouldn’t be playable and/or good. But Bandai should really only introduce 3-4 leaders per new set. On top of being able to support old/popular leaders more consistently, it will also help with the longevity of the game because they won’t burn through important and popular characters that can be leaders as fast. Also (I know this is long) Bandai needs to stop making leaders that completely invalidate other leaders. Why run Kaido or Magellan when Purple Luffy just does purple better? Why run Reiju when there is BY Luffy, who has essentially the same gameplan, play a little guy, sac to level them up, except in BY Luffy your leader gets 2K bigger AND you don’t need to minus Don. I don’t know what they’re “cooking” over at Bandai, but they need to get out of the kitchen
The intro skit had me dying LOL. But i think it would be a good idea to release these "collector type" exclusive cards to appease that crowd and not disrupt the actual TCG players by release a basically useless card.
That skit at the start had me rolling 😂😂😂 It’s so funny, I was thinking of this exact topic the other day looking at my cards and realising I have leaders with no actual synergy with the cards I have spare. There are so many staples in older sets but back then they had leaders that are still played today, while the leaders that are coming out now are leaders that I don’t see many people even using. It’s sad to see, but I hope they fix this issue in the future. Maybe have a few sets that have no leaders, and more cards that have the ability to work in multiple decks like the staples we have had since the beginning
One of my biggest gripes is with the 2 Sabo leaders we have. The black/red one isn’t dressrosa type but then they went and made the red/yellow one dressrosa lmao. Then there’s red/purple uta. Why they didn’t make her green/purple blows my mind. It’s exactly what she needs to even somewhat compete in this meta. Instead they made some of the worst red cards til date.
I didn't realize R/Y Sabo is Dressrosa type until now. Bruh there are no Dressrosa characters in Red or Yellow that are viable. Furthermore, they need to start releasing cards that have k.o potential for red because red is struggling too much with blockers and black and green have some of the most insane blockers ever.
I don't think you guys understand the concept of a pre-release/draft format, that's the point of basically all the non-leader cards you talk about, they aren't supposed to be good to play on a constructed format, but rather designed for those specific and also important formats for a TCG, that's why there's always vanilla cards in every set, it's not just a matter of creating new cards to fill the slots of the set, it's needed for said formats, that's why there was no pre-release for EB01.
“Alright, let’s make a Calgara leader and his whole schtick is cheating out Shandoan Warriors. Now let’s not print any Shandoan Warriors and instead let’s print more support for Vegapunk.”
Kyros just needs some value cost reduction. Hes insane with ice age, but everything else is pretty mid. Give him a yellow leader locked blocker that reduces something by like 6 or something.
I was trying celestial dragons with him but I couldn’t actually pressure anyone lol. Plus you have to flip the life back down or take it to get the effect again
Ok so the 5/7 vanilla I believe is mostly for drafting and pre release. vanilla's in general are meant for that. I always grab those cards for my pre release decks. We don't really do official drafting but you can with your friends.
I agree with you! The EB01 leaders were really weird. Like, not good and I don’t know why they were made, weird. EB was supposed to be support for old leaders, and we got new ones? Why? None of those leaders do anything new that other leaders don’t already do better. It’s dumb. Now we have 30 leaders that just don’t see play and likely never will
Well to be fair r/g oden is just better for the Wano archetype than green oden and kinemon. Issue is that they made it red so it’s going to suck. It making all Wano cards have counter was what Wano was missing but they also could’ve just printed good Wano cards with counter lol. I think that they showed a complete lack of understanding of what decks actually need.
Yeah I wish some of these old leaders would be viable cus they are some of my favorite characters in the show but they’re absolutely abysmal most of the time or play in a way I very much so dislike
I have been saying this since set 3. We don't need 6 new leaders per set. 1-3 should be fine, but well supported 1-3 leaders. We are going to have what...100 leaders soon? and when you look at the meta, there are maybe like 10-15 viable leaders.
So if this game had a limited format (ie Drafting) the 5 7k vanillas would be great as what we call it in MtG would be limited bombs or made specifically for draft. But as it is right now I think they just do it cause not everything can be amazing or the game will get way too out of control powerful. Its nice to have a powered down archtype if it has a nice synergy with each of the other cards in that strategy, they just need to do something to be able to compete with what else is going on.
Eb01 when announced was the set that I was most looking forward to, because I wanted the old Leaders to be viable again, wish they keep pushing out eb sets if they don't have space in the main set to support old Leaders
Completely agree. Not sure why Japanese executives all think the same way when it comes to card games because they do the exact same thing in yugioh. For once it would be nice if they did stop printing new leaders and just supported old ones. There are plenty of players who love a particular leader.
Tldw: Guy in the video is just mad cause he cant play his fav leader competetively. 😂 On a serious note: There are a few things to take note, that you dont take in consideration, which are very important when developing a game. You want to address a broad spectrum of people. Thats why you dont exclusively build the game around the competetive scene. It's also meant for casuals that just play for fun, that take their fav leaders and slap a wanky deck together. It doesnt matter if a certain leader is much better than the other. Another thing you already mentioned are people that only collect cards and dont even play the game. I don't like the idea of putting collector exclusives into a set. It's just not the same as having an original, playable card. I think it's totally fine to have cards that don't see any play in competetive, really. Also, with having this many cards being not viable, there are chances that some leaders celebrate their comeback by pure chance. Maybe some ingenius person figures a way out of a forgotten leader to be viable again. That alone is worth it for me, to keep them coming. ✌️
I totally get the draft aspect of it but we only play that like 1 day out of 3 months and personally I think it’s a waste of cardboard. Even casual players don’t play draft cus products impossible to find. Even more so I think most people don’t really find it super rewarding or fun. That’s my opinion though. I think the collector cards would be a middle ground. I doubt it’ll ever happen
To add to this, I find it weird there’s like 4-5 versions of certain leaders that are mostly all duds and then fan favorite characters like Zoro have 1 (Not counting the combo st12 one) I agree though more support over new leaders everytime would be cool.
That’s why I said I’m more concerned about over saturation of leaders. But also not every TCG has to follow the same path others do. If most cards in a set were bangers how would that be a bad thing lol
I am tired of telling myself a bad leader can be good. I’ve been playing off meta for a while at my locals. Set 1 I played King, then set 2 Evankov and then set 3 Kuro. I like play testing but man, it’s an uphill battle just for them to draw decent and smash you. Would just be healthier for the game if more leaders were built equal. Kyros should’ve been KO a 3 or less and King should’ve been during both turns just to be decent.
Im more bummed that the majority of the decks use Rares and Super Rares and Commons feel almost irrelevant. At least in something like mtg the common cards are still very much playable
Look at op08 I was excited to play kalgara but his boss character is a freaken vanilla and he didn’t have much support in that set but Bandai decided to make egghead sr in his set
It seems like Bandai is learning from their mistakes with Fusion World, where there were 8 leaders in the 1st set and only 4 in the 2nd set, so that old leaders could be supported. Which they did, however there were some leaders that got like 1 card lol so maybe they still have no idea...
I'll tell you right now in OP07 I'm playing that 5/7 wano boar lmaooo. I'd rather they release some generic good stuff than start printing direct support for archtypes. Yugioh has this problem where konami literally makes the decks then supports them later. (AKA archtype releases) it restricts a lot of deck building expression unlike how One Piece and Magic the gathering are doing their releases where they release generic goodish cards that may become meta relevant in the future. As the card pool expands I think this will be better for the future health of the game. That's just my opinion though good video.
Honestly speaking, the regional winning decks (R/P Law, Enel, and Moria) should all be banned. These decks just put a stranglehold on the meta. This will allow some top cutting decks to replace these as regional winners since the top cutting decks rn are in a mostly good spot. The issue rn is Bandai is too passive on banning cards and everyone just gravitates to the very easy to use/high winrate decks that feel very bad to play against. We also have a crap ton of cards rn so banning 10 of them (Such as 10c Bigmom, OP07 10c Ace, etc.) wouldn't really ruin the game. They also need to rework Yellow's identity because having cards that take away opponents life by playing or just healing your life for free just by playing them is a very bad design. MTG can get away with healing because you have to rely on luck to get mana and you have to deal enough damage to equal life, in OPTCG you have to hit a person a specific number of times so life value in this game is WAYYYY more finite than other card games and shouldn't be easily manipulated or else it destroys the foundation of the game. Play OP07 Enel and you realize the deck can heal itself by 8c Katakuri, 10c Linlin, Enel ability, You're the One Who Should Disappear, 9c Yamato, and 10c Ace. There needs to be a limit to this.
@@richardshiflett5181 well with Kata, it's less so the leader, more of the cards in the deck so IG you're right but I still stand by my statement that cards that give free heals on play should be banned. It ruins the point of the game.
I think I am okay with the situational on-play/effect cards, but there needs to be more cards with effects in general. There are far too many cards with no effects at this point that it just feels like filler to fluff up a set.
They need to decrease the amount of leaders they release in each set and only release sets a a couple times a year, this would allow them to put more support cards for previous leaders and give them more time to prepare for releases so we don’t have as much problems getting products
Actually FILM shanks is a beast if u can get 5 FILM type characters into play and keep them there for a turn without your opponent bottom decking or effect KOing them and your opponent dosnt play blockers Then watch out
i feel like you can atleast somehow play all leaders somewhat decent. kalgara on the other hand if fucked. yellow otama gonna be meta against tony chooper leader
I think the fun thing to find out how what makes certain leaders work. Even if they're crappy try to figure out something but instead people like to play meta decks. Like they should never have banned sakasuki. People need to figure out how to beat it.
I do try to make less meta leaders work but bro it’s so hard when some decks are just completely useless lol. Saka shouldn’t be hit. I think gecko needs to go. The character.
Instead of limiting the cards printed why dont u just “rotate” a leader out of your mind yourself until it becomes relevant to you somehow lmfao They can always add cards to make a random leader viable down the road but the games appeal isnt just limited to sweating out to have the most competitively viable deck ever. Look at ur buddy VV Theory as an example of how much content and ideas/creativity can come from some of these leaders. Instead of crying about metas all the time, why dont u try to find new ways to have fun with this cartoon card game
Bro you must not watch my channel if you don’t think I don’t try that. Instead of you commenting something stupid why don’t you go be stupid somewhere else :)
My issue with 8c gecko is that he's fundamentally busted. With b/y Luffy out all black decks suffer because b/y Laffy can abuse Moria in ways that were never intended. It isn't fun being a ko based deck and v/y Luffy just turning that game play mechanic off all game.
I’m fine with it. Maybe they should make fewer leaders be set, but if they make each new leader too good it’ll lead to a power creep and then players will be complaining their older cards are useless.
Something about these negative titled videos makes me click so much faster , the one piece game has so many flaws and can be so wack sometimes that i need someone else to help me cope🤣
@@heartpiratestcg you mentioned cards that dont see play and had chopper on screen so im saying he sees play in red purple law nothing less nothing more
I just don't get the business design of making a leader like Sakazuki back in OP-05 and just consistently putting out leaders that are nowhere near his efficiency level and wonder why people are still playing Enel, Katakuri, etc.
@@heartpiratestcg 100% - Zoro and RG Law still taking Ws out here and I feel like Blue Croc and Doffy have aged like fine wine. I genuinely hope the "backlash" about Sakazuki didn't scare Bandai out of innovative/fun Leader design - all the leaders post OP-06 just seem really boring to me.
Bro legit. Bandai just puts out shit so fast as a money grab, That is the main reason I am taking a step back from it. it's just so annoying, there's so many cards I want to play that I had and couldn't because its not viable in the meta. -Yuki
