I was very happy when Enphase added panel level data display. In our first year we had a microinverter fail. Our installer never noticed. I noticed a red light on my Envoy and called them. A few months later Enlighten was updated and I check it every day. I'm in Florida, but I really enjoy and appreciate your videos.
I am way out of your area but I watched your videos to help me decided on equipment. I went Mission panels because they are 2 hours from my house and I wanted to support a local company. I went with everything else you suggested. I was able to weed out the bad contractors with your advice, because I had a little knowledge. Even though I can not use your services I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO HELP people out side your service area.
Thanks so much for the vid! Great explanation and visuals. Just had my panels put up, waiting for next phase of installation and trying to educate myself on the Enphase app. Also thanks for the heads up on the CTs. Not getting batteries until next year but will make sure I get those CTs installed. Appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Do you expect Enphase to eventually catch up with the SolarEdge monitoring graphs that show per-panel production through the day in detail? It's VERY helpful to understand things like: * Panels that have low production early/late due to shadows * Panels that are producing low in general (not the same of course) * Panels with erratic production (can analyze in more detail to see why, but a potential service issue) * Overall, the *range* of production between panels
Good video. First time I've even heard of these or even knew it was a thing. I'm currently shopping installers, so I'll be asking about this from the ones who install Enphase. It would be helpful if you said what Consumption CTs are, how many you need (I Googled), if they can't be installed for any reason, and what the remedy is. It's great to hear you always install them, but seems like a potential friction point with an installer with the chance to price gouge the consumer. Enphase should require it of all installers or figure out a way to included them OOTB so installers have it easier and consumers don't find out the hard way, by realizing they don't really have a full view of their data and usage. It's not really fair to put it on the consumer to know this, and the system monitoring is not nearly as useful without seeing what you consume and send back to the grid.
They seem to have radically redesigned the app. I don't get even half of these features. Version 3.7.1 --Updated January 31, 2023. My home screen doesn't look anything like that.
Thanks for the video! I did not see a real-time display in the app, just daily, weekly etc.. The Tesla app shows real time flows (kW instead of kWH) to the point where you can actually watch what happens when an appliance is turned on for example. It seems like enphase could do this since they have even better data with the micro-inverters than Tesla does with its one inverter.
Neat stuff, but I wish you would've explained how the system knows what each panel is doing, what parts are required for all of this to work, and if a DIY'er can do the same! If I go buy 10 of these converters and suitable panels, what do I have to do to see this level of info and how does it piece together for my to see this level of detail? Great advertising to sell a product, but realistically most of us are not your local customer but are obviously interested in the product since we're here...
Enphase micro inverters communicate to the Envoy, the Envoy communicates the Enlighten portal. You should just need to setup an installer account and input your system details.
I’m adding some Tesla Power Wall 3s next year, will the Enphase app provide ALL the stats anyone would need? Or will I have to use BOTH apps to see my ENTIRE systems performance?
No, Enphase's monitoring only shows Enphase equipment. If you get the Tesla Powerwall 3's next year, you'll have to use the Tesla app to see your home's energy consumption, solar production, and battery status. While using the Enphase app to periodically check that all your micro inverters are working.
Hi Dale, Can you provide some insight as to what an installer or customer would need to do to get access to their consumption and import/export data? For current HO's on the standard data graph would this upgrade be possible and easy? Thanks
You just need this installed on the main leads: store.enphase.com/storefront/en-us/consumption-monitoring it's recommended to use a certified electrical or solar installer. Once these are installed the solar provider needs to use Enphase's installer toolkit to enable them and they will appear in your Enlighten Portal.
What am I missing? You mention the data and how nice it is, but what can you DO with it. Its not actionable. Its not even real time. And omg why Enphase Why put the consumption info UNDER the production? You really cant look at it and see what is going on. SolarEdge has it side by side which is more intuitive. How are you installing these on all clients? They rarely work without a main service panel upgrade. Sense is a much better system for this.
Great video! I would like to know if this setup has automated features to connect the battery (assuming it's charged) and the solar panels to the grid during peak hours ONLY? Also, can this setup connect the battery and home to the grid during during off-peak hours? I have read that this technique is referred to as 'Peak Shaving' and it allows consumer to buy and sell energy at opportune times during the day.
It can be more than a pain in the butt, most all in one panels in southern CA you simply can not install consumption CT’s. If your main breaker on your bus goes directly to you your meter socket there is NO option for CT’s. It’s that simple.
Can you use Enphase monitoring with sunpower panels? Don't they have enphase micro inverters? I have spr-X22 360 panels. I have the sunpower PVS 6 monitor and the sun power app. I would like to see more info.
I just purchased a home with solar panels on it. I own the solar panels outright I don't owe anything on them. Now my problem is that I can't monitor them. I have Enphase Invertors. Is the app to monitor the invertors free or do they charge a fee to monitor your own panels?
The previous owners needed to transfer the monitoring to you through the enlighten portal. The problem is some comes don’t install the Envoy which communicates to the micro inverters and the servers. Try calling Enphase they’ll help figure it out for you.
Not all Enphase Envoy’s support them, though most in the last five years due. You’ll need to buy the current transformers and have someone install them and enable them.
So do you need the battery back-up to be able to use the CTs? I was told by Enphase that you had to have them. Also, my envoy app looks NOTHING like everyone else's I am seeing...
Hi, we just installed 25 panels, you mentioned that you included consumption Cts with the system. How come we don’t have them and what do we need to do to adquiere them? Thank you.
Not all companies install consumption CTs. You’ll need to contact your installer. It’s important to note that not all electrical panels have room for the consumption monitoring CTs they’re a bit clunky.
Can you suggest an app to use to run my EnPhase numbers through? Yes, I get the data displays you are showing, here but I would like to know, if my AC will eats 3.5 kw how long I can run w/o tapping out the battery? And, if lights add .7 to the draw, what’s happens to my system if I turn them on? EnPhase will sell me software for $1000 that does all of this BUT for my 1500 sq ft house with a 10KW system for two retired people that’s TOOO much money on top of what I’ve already invested. I do not have the skills to program this myself. Got any ideas? Thanks very much.
My Enphase setup is not turning on due to lack of supply voltage from Line , any suggestions how can I boost supply to keep it in working range ? Mine is grid connected setup.
Enphase micro inverters usually allow for varying voltage ranges with little issues. But you may be experiencing an issue related to the incorrect wire size being used for the distance the micro-inverters are having to send AC power.
Yes, but in our experience the Tesla Powerwall communicate can sometimes interfere with the communication the Enphase Envoy makes with the micro-inverters. The Powerwall can be retrofitted to any solar system.
@@TurreTuntematon where do you go to install the enphase iq monitor. I have enphase microinveryrers and would like one. Can you tell me where and how much it would cost. I live in pennsylvania.
