@@lemmylicket2306 In Lars' defense, he might not be the greatest drummer, but he does his thing and he's a drummer in a commercially successful band, thanks in part to his business sense. It also gives us non-virtuosos hope.
Does not sing. Does not spit. Does not mess around with the drumsticks. No weird faces. No taking photos of audience. Tiny little drumset. No gongs, no chimes. Guess what, pals? I'm afraid this is a trap. This is not the real Mike Portnoy!
If he had stayed standing for about 10 seconds while still playing the main beat and alternating between hitting a crash and throwing his hand in the air until the vocals came in.....THAT would have been perfect.
Check out the Dream Theater - Peruvian Skies w/h Enter Sandman (Live in Paris 1998) Heres the Link of the Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9h9lOB3orAA.html
I love it. It sounds so weird. Never realized how vital Lars was to the Metallica sound. Blue Orchid by The White Stripes but it's played like Dave Lombardo. I really just want to hear White Stripes with thrash metal drumming.
Absolutely vital and his drumming on the black album is perfect for the songs. All the techy stuff is so overrated, unless you play in a really techy band.
I’d take this version over the one with Lars’ drumming any day. I like some Metallica a lot (first four records?) but the drumming is nothing to write home about. Not great, not terrible but simply not on par with the guitars and singing…
This was perfect and amusing as can be. You got the essence there in most ways. One thing is missing though… the extra half a dozen toms needed to do the ascending/ defending tom fills Portnoy so loved doing. And another 50 drums/ cymbals of varying types just for kicks 😆
Apart from the astounding interpretation of Enter Sandman, you kept playing despite getting your sticks systematically entangled in that turquoise fluff of facial hair! This rocks! Subbed!
There should be a fill at 2:52 mirroring the guitar solo, like Portnoy does every single song. And maybe some very high speed sextuplets in the intro, like he does on Lines in the Sand. Great job, I laughed hard at this video and the one Lars plays Danceof Eternity (that one is 100% accurate btw)
I really don't understand why so many dislikes everytime. Some songs are harder than others to play in the style of others drummers, and this guy is a realy good drummer i don't know why there is some dislikes like that...
damn dude,I love portnoy and I was laughing the whole time on how you would guess how would portnoy cover this song😂keep up man i love watching ur funny cover vids!
Ringo was perfect for the Beatles but not for The Who Moon was amazing over Townsend’s power chords where he had space to improvise off Roger & The Ox...he’d have been too busy for The Beatles Both were huge fans of each other and best of friends
This is great...really interesting and I wish there were more of these kinds of videos. For example, I'd love to see how Neil Peart would have played various Beatles songs. Strangely enough, this video really shows how great Lars is, in spite of himself. Dream Theater has always been a bunch of fantastic musicians who can't write a truly classic song. Metallica, on the other hand, has dozens of classic songs. Musicianship should never be confused with great art. Lars is a master arranger and knows how to highlight the SONG, not the drumming.
I never realized how I am addicted to doing a Mike Portnoy style on everything. I’m still practicing drums tho, I’ve only been playing for 1 year and a half
