He already had had a pretty decent career up to that point with The Rat Patrol and his appearances opposite John Wayne in several films. Sadly he passed away a few years after Enter the Ninja came out due to cardiac arrest which stemmed from heavy drinking and smoking as well as an old injury he suffered on The Rat Patrol that never healed properly. My first ninja movie was probably Ninja III. I was a kid, and it impressed me. When I look back at the film now, it still impresses me as a source of unintentional hilarity. Very, very weird to see the Philippines referred to as the Philippines in Enter the Ninja. Studios shot movies here back in the day, using the locations as a stand-in for [insert Mainland South East Asian Country here] where the protagonist, usually a war vet, got his first PTSD. I'm sure the geopolitics of the time had something to do with it (also cheap, English-speaking labor). Keep doing what you're doing. I live for this stuff. :)

Very silly in retrospect, and I have to wonder why my parents let me watch R rated movies with people being slashed up with swords and gratuitous nudity when I was 7-10 years old, but they and the Films of icons like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris started me on a life long journey in the martial arts (I started training in judo, the kwon do, and kempo when I was 9) that greatly influenced my life for the better and continues to this day, nearly 40 years later.

2:16 Cole's friend Frank somehow looks like the very improbable lovechild of Sonny and Fredo Corleone. ...

One of my black cats is called Ninja. When Venerius (good lord, what a name) calls out "NinJA! NINja?!" I expected a shy "Mrreow?!" as a reply.

I'm pretty sure I watched this movie with my father when I was a kid. I went back through your Exploring series and watched the I Sell The Dead episode. I watched it the next day and I really liked it. I never even heard of it before I saw your video on it. Thanks for the recommendation. I know your busy, you should do like a Cecil's Recommendations Video once a month of a short list of movies you like but don't have time to do a full exploring video. Thanks again for the recommendation, keep up the good work.

Worth noting that Sho Kosugi continued on with the genre and was in 2009 Ninja Assassin, by far the best ninja movie.

The 80’s had me believing I would face a significant ninja threat in adulthood. My adulthood has been disappointing, to say the least.

I knew this was shot in the Philippines when I saw the stainless steel Jeep. After WWII, the US left all the military jeeps there and the locals liked them so much they started stamping out stainless steel bodies and assembling their own jeeps. You can still buy a stainless steel tub from the Philippines and ship it to the US if your willing to pay for the high shipping cost.
