Entering my Sci-Fi Era! "Rose" & "The End of the World" | Doctor Who Reaction ~First Time Watching~ 

I'm fairly new to Dr. Who also. In terms of episodes, you never really know what may be coming. Some episodes are comedy, some drama, some horror, some adventure, often there is a mixture. Some have you thinking about ethics, morality and philosophy. You get time travel both forward and back and many, many monsters and also interesting aliens. In the beginning it appears that these episodes stand alone, but in reality there is an overall story arc so it is best to watch them in order. If you watch out of order you may miss the plot twists of the overall storyline (think of multiple people taking turns telling a story - someone throws in a twist and then the next writers have to adjust.) I've learned that there are a lot of fans, many of whom go way back, and they seem to enjoy arguing and debating plot points, storylines, and loving or hating the writers. This show just celebrated its 60th birthday, so clearly it is well loved by many. I hope you watch more and continue to enjoy it.

The 'classic' show ran in 30 minute serial format 1963-1989, a failed reboot in 1996 and finally back in the hour-long format in 2005-present day. Its got sci-fi, horror, historical dramas & comedy, the time travel aspect will mess with your head and it might make you cry too. Enjoy....

I'm really loving watching these reactions from people are totally new. I'm like you, not really a sci fi fan. But doctor who is definitely a big exception. My all time favourite. You've gone some amazing stuff to come. And some of it in this first season.

The Autons (the dummies) and the Nestene Consciousness first appeared in the show in 1970, and again in 1971. So it's been a while since we saw them last. The Doctor also saw the end of the world in 1966.

The show can be a bit variable in quality , but when its good its very good. I look forward to seeing what you make of the chap who likes a nice bottom . And later, someone who wants to avoid “spoilers” . I’ll leave it at that as i dont want to risk spoiling some wonderful stuff for you. Be patient. The doctor who army will find your channel and bump up your numbers. You seem like a good guy. Be warned however, lots of spoilers available out there. You may want someone to moderate your comments and whatnot. Finding a fan to do that shouldn’t be too hard.

17:22 That would actually be ... a little bit difficult, depending on where your grounds for Spoilers properly lies. Any other show, I could easily talk about some deets, but... Other comments already offered a rough timeline - and yeah, the show is in its 60th year ... although we do have a period lovingly referred to as The Wilderness Years, during the time when the BBC believed too few people wanted the show. A tragic truth about this show's past (as well as a few others from the BBC through the 60's and 70's) is that the ruling idea was those episodes would never be viewed again. Thus, the tapes were wiped to record other things. Many, many shows with the BBC lost a terrible number of their episodes. In the years since, the BBC has recognized their error and sought to restore the Missing Episodes. At first, it wasn't done by the BBC, but by small non-profits, who compiled surviving footage/stills along with a saving grace: So many fans of the show had held microphones up to the telly, to record the episodes. Thanks to those fans, every single episode can be listened to - and it is those audio files that the reconstructions are set to. Eventually, the BBC accepted doing their own reconstructions, but there were baby steps, at first, to be sure the public actually wanted the money it would require to do the kind of thing they're doing now: Full on animated episodes that lend a wonderful new element of surrealism to those stories. The show was "serialized" back then. In one season, there would be *multiple* episode arcs before the adventure came to a resolution and the Heroes moved on to the next story. So some of the old stories only had some of their episodes missing. It's a lot of fun to watch them, now that the reconstructions are readily available. The first time I watched this series from the beginning, I only had enough access to be able to view and read the synopses of the missing stories on Wikipedia. This is one of those ways that the future is so spoiled. 😆💙 P.S. I *really, really, really, REALLY* miss the old format.

Welcome to Doctor Who! Fair warning, doctor who fans (specifically the ones who follow reaction channels) are notoriously idiots about spoilers. I can already see a comment on this, your reaction to the pilot episode, "trying to be helpful" by giving away a massive plot point for season 2. I don't think it's intentional, they just don't seem to get that that kind of "basic information" is a spoiler to someone who's totally new to and unfamiliar with the franchise. It's the same for literally every other reaction channel that watches this show, and it will get worse as you grow. Have fun, you're in for an incredible ride, but please get a comment moderator (or try and watch at least a season ahead of release, so the spoilers you get are less likely to be relevant).
