Fun fact, as well as making mark strong a more recognisable name, Drogan was voiced by Danny Webb, who has done absolute tons for games workshop, narrating the early gotrek and felix audio books to be quite specific. There is a way to make you play as guards in an FPS in a realistic way. The battlefield 1 intro mission comes to mind where you posses multiple soldiers. you can add some general/commisar mechanics there too! To blend an RTS light with an FPS!

There is also a lore conflict regarding the location of Forgeworld Greia, in the first game the cinematic shows that the world is located in Segmentum Ultima in the Eastern Fringe which makes it’s location strategically close to the Realm of Ultramar but official lore puts the forgeworld in Segmentum Tempestus

Cato isnt the 2nd company captain by the time of this game, it's Sevastus Acheran. Cato leads the Victrix guard.

I'm overall pretty stoked about this game! I had fun playing SM1, so many years ago, and hopes it would someday get a sequel. This is also the game that colors some of my ignorant talking points about Space Marines; how, if not Minotaurs, they usually don't take to the field at detachment strength, for long, protracted battles, but more like a Deathwatch Kill Team, dropping in a small force to save an alreadyvstanding, but beleaguered, force of lesser troops. Obviously, things like Armageddon, and Vraks, are things, and the Astartes are the poster boys of the IP, so I'm not strictly right, but Titus deployments are still the way I like to imagine most Space Marines working; a small, tactical drop, meant to cut tbe head off a snake. I don't imagine 3,000 pt of Grey Knights being dropped in one place, even for the mother of all daemonic incursions, or a single Watch Fortress maintaining that many DW Marines to send on one mission, and playing SM1 is just part of why I envision that for all Space Marines.

The lore for Titus is DOPE as fuck

It seems that Games Workshop has added additional background lore to Titus. Once after becoming a full-fledged battle brother, he slew a Chaos Sorcerer, but the rest of his squad did not survive. After 50 years of service, he joined the 2nd Company under the command of Captain Severus Agemman. After the Battle of Macragge, Agemman became the 1st Company Captain (this was already established lore). Unlike old lore where Sicarius then becomes the 2nd Company Captain, the 2nd Company's First Sergeant Lucian Trajan (a new character now part of Titus' background) becomes the 2nd Company Captain with Titus becoming Captain Trajan's Command Squad Sergeant (possibly Trajan's former post under Agemman). Trajan would perish during an Aeldari ambush rescuing a captured Leandros with Calgar appointing Titus as the new 2nd Company Captain. The Invasion of Graia from Space Marine 1 would occur about ten years after Titus became Captain of the 2nd Company and a full 150 years after he began his service with the Ultramarines. Edit: Cato Sicarius would then become the 2nd Company Captain although his personal lore has not been changed to denote that two other Ultramarines had that post before him and after Agemman.

RIP Mark Strong. He's not dead, he's just not Titus anymore :(

Ironic that leandros became a chaplin after skipping over the chain of command, i imagine he got demoted and had to work harder than anyone else to earn consideration

Titus singlehandedly saved an important imperial planet from two apocalypse level threats at the same time, only to be tortured by the inquisition for 100 years, yet he still remained loyal, he is the ultimate gigachad and paragon of Astartes values.

1 thing to get straight: Referencing cannon lore doesn't necessarily make Boltgun cannon anymore than, Titus being an ultramarine did in space marine 1 (at the time). Having or referencing things to set a peice of media in an IP doesn't necessarily make anything cannon or not.

Would have been awesome if Titus turned out to be a psyker of some sort now. Or, even better, that mechanics guy had been right and Titus as we know him did actually die when he touched the artifact, and the Titus we were currently playing was something else. So many cool possibilities. So cool to see and fight with Calgar and so many ultramarines. And Calgar knowing and trusting Titus so personally was awesome. Was touching to see how upset he genuinely was that he hadn't been able to save Titus previously. And then of course, the jackass himself has to be a damn Chaplain now, making it his personal mission to follow and watch Titus. At least he isn't trying to jump the gun on purging make believe heresy.

Haven't gotten into Warhammer 40k like a mf'er recently. When I saw this game was being released I got so excited. Just pre-ordered the Gold Edition and can't wait to play it after work. Can't wait.

SM1 is what got me into 40k in the first place and I've been in thr rabbit hole since 2011. Hold fast brother I'm coimg!

What Im trying to figure out though is if SM1 took place a century before Cato Sicarius was captain of the 2nd Company where do the Blood Raven's timeline come into play? Titus commented about their Aurelian Crusade during the final assault though if memory serves me the Aurelian crusade takes place while Cato was captain of the 2nd company. Not to mention I think I remember a piece of Wargear being mentioned in DOW2 that was gifted by the Ultramarines 2nd Company with a comment from Cato Sicarius. Maybe Im just over-analyzing the timeline considering how disordered the timeline is in 40K with the influence of the Warp. GW very well could've moved around the timeline but if Im reading it right there are still some conflicting details.

Capt achrarn is the 2nd company capt now. He was promoted to the position after cato became the primarchs head of security. Cato is technically no longer part of the chapter but simply part of the primarchs the retinue. Titus came back to the chapter after all this has happened

I love this new era of 40k games. With every success GW should be more encouraged to allow developers to work with the license, and developers should be getting a clear message about what we like.

I like to think the main reason for space marine 2 coming to be, comes of the back of The Russian Badgers space marine video that brought the first game into popularity well after its initial release.

So something a little weird, is they pulled the first games timeline backwards so it'd be properly cannon andnot conflict with Cato Sicarious..... but this does make the Blood ravens cameo non-cannon. For the brief time they are there helping you cross a bridge Titus makes mention of events that happened recently in Dawn of war 2. The near destruction/corruption of the blood ravens after 11 years of conflict in their own home system. Titus asks why they are here when their Chapter needs to repair itself and its numbers and even mentions that Gabriel angelos is chaptermaster now. But due to the game being pushed back that entire conversation doesn't make sense anymore. So outside of this one little thing, the game is still cannon. And I only realized this when I looked through the blood ravens wiki page and saw it never made mention of this brief cameo except in the 'trivia' section, not apart of the actual history section. Also, so far there is no sign of Leandros appearing in space marine 2 and I genuinely kinda dislike that. I know he was one of the least liked characters, but it would have been interesting to see his perspective all this time later. Maybe he's realized what he did was wrong and has held a mark of personal shame on himself ever since. Or he's only doubled down on his beliefs to cope and his sort of a strange 'black sheep' amongst his breathren. Adhereing to the codex so strongly even his fellow Ultramarines see it as too strict and dread working with him.(But technically he'dhave been punished badly. Codex says in the matter of potential heresy you let a librairn or Chaplin know, not some inquisotor. Chapters hate their own business getting out cause one messup could brand them as heretics)

Primaris Marines (power = 2): Larger than standard Space Marines, standing about 8 feet tall, with enhanced physical traits. They are stronger, faster, and more durable, capable of lifting heavier loads and withstanding more damage in battle. Their armor and weapons are advanced, adding to their already impressive combat abilities. Triaris Marines (power = 3): These Marines would be a full head taller, nearing 9 feet. Their muscle density would increase, making them significantly stronger-able to rip through tank armor or hurl vehicles with ease. They might also have bone reinforcement upgrades, making them nearly unbreakable. In close combat, their sheer weight and power would turn them into living battering rams. Quaternions Marines (power = 4): These Marines would be over 10 feet tall, with immense strength and speed.
